If your going to do all grain beers then do yourself a favor and invest in a good Lauter Tun....it makes sparging the mash much easier. It definitly is worth the extra effort and I think all grain brews turn out better. I have an extra pale ale the is carbinating right now and should be ready in about a week or so. Good Luck and remember----Never go cheap on your yeast!!! Kelly

Dropzones with Medivac based on airport
skybeergodd replied to JumpHog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Quantum Leap Skydiving in Sullivan Missouri has ARCH 1 based at the airport permanently. Cool group of people....If we need them we just call or knock on their door.....they have even chased down one of our cut away mains for us when they were returning from a trip. -
Dive hard....stop fast and watch for the hits from behind....I good 10 way team should be pretty smooth actually but hits and funnels do occur.....Have Fun with it!!!
-
Absolutely...the only real difference is the addition of the BOC pouch....maybe the old ROL velcro has been removed or just covered with strips of pile. You should have no worries at all jumping a rig converted to BOC.
-
I see more seat by far....there are several seat packs that are used by pilots and the only ones that still use chest mount are the old nostalgic jumps and you only get those maybe once a year or two

Have you ever cut away from a slider up
skybeergodd replied to NelKel's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Chopped a tandem this year because the slider was hung at the top on one side only. Ugly tension knots were below the slider on the right side so only the left side started down. It was one hell of a spin. I fought with it trying to clear the knots down to 3500' and couldn't even get them to budge so it was chop time. -
They are good containers....just about totally identical to the Talon...They are made my Rigging Innovations and are basically an older version of the Talon 2

I've just received my newest play toy....a Singer 212w140. A very nice double needle machine. I have regular binders but what I really want now is a right angle binder for 3/4 inch trim tape. If anyone has a good one for sale or knows where to get one that is compatable with my machine please let me know. Thanks and Blue Skies Kelly

One other point to consider is the harness fully articulated, hip rings only or is it a non ringed harness. That fact will make a difference in the price I would charge. The easier the work the less charge there is. I do have a feeling though that if you find a big container it will probly have a big harness to go with it and there is more to a rig fitting PROPERLY than just the main lift webbing size. It would probly be cheaper and easier to have a new harness sized for you installed. But to simply answer your question...yes it can be done, you just have to be willing to pay and the cost will vary between riggers and different manufacturers.

Oh god - now I got three weeks for the nerves to kill me....
skybeergodd replied to jumper03's topic in Gear and Rigging
It's no big deal at all....actually you will most likely get something your familar with...The DPRE is supposed to use equiptment " in common use "...I know the DPRE that I take all my rigging students to usually gives them a vector and PD reserve and also a vector with a Phantom reserve...granted you don't see alot of round reserves but they are in common use. If you can get a letter from a rigger to take your test then there is someone out there that has full confidence in you passing your practical. GOOD LUCK and don't forget to ask for the manuals Kelly -
Thats so cool....now I know i'm not the only person in the world that does that.....those candy canes are about the only good thing about the christmas season. Being a paramedic, I always keep a candy cane around---they can help calm down freaking out people and on those 2AM calls they can kill the morning breath quickly.

I agree with the advice of calling PD....I have ordered more line sets than I can count from PD and usually have them within 7 days or so....and if they didn't have them in stock and had to make them it has never been longer than 14 days.

I had the same thing happen but it was a pilots rig and he went nuts when I told him the news. It actually passed all the pull tests on the gores and just needed to be neutralized in a wash and he actually accused me of making it all up and trying to extort money from him....The ironic thing was about a month later he actually used another rig that I had packed when he had an engine fire and lost control of the plane. He had the nerve to call and ask me for another pack job and i gave him the number of another rigger.

Broken Femurs & Limping
skybeergodd replied to BoondockSaint's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I broke my femur and received a rod and screws for my efforts back in 1996....I had a limp for several months afterwards...the more running and weight training you do the faster the muscles re-build and recover....All total it probly took a better part of a year before I didn't notice the limp anymore...it probly took about 6 or 7 months after the injury before other people stopped noticing the limp. -
who else hates these newer rigging log books
skybeergodd replied to skybeergodd's topic in Gear and Rigging
I totally hate these newer rigging log books. They don't hold that many pack jobs in them. I've already filled up one this year and a few pages into a second. To fill up one complete log in less than a year is nuts. I wished they gave us the choice of these newer ones or the older version that held alot more entries. If anyone has knowledge of a better log book please let me know. It might just come down to me making up my own. OK...I thru ranting now. Blue Skies -
15 student rigs and 7 tandems.....plus we also have 5 experienced jumpers now using vigils.
-
Quantum Leap is using Vigils and by next year all our student and tandem gear will be vigil equipt and so far we have only had a posative experience with them. I have personally delt with several cypres' that have come back from 4 and 8 year checks only to be installed and within a week the control head cable has gone bad and I even had 2 cases where the cypres came back the LED display broke and with the way theu are packaged and boxed in those padded boxes it is hard to believe that damage happened in shipping. Thats just a couple of my experiences and with that being said...I do own 3 cypres' and think they definitly save lives and are a good unit, however when they reach the 12 year mark they will most likely be replaced with vigils.

OK....thank-you

Does anyone know who was the dealer that shared the tent with Icarus?? They made freefly suits and pants. Their tent was across the taxiway from the small food vendor tents. Any help would be appreciated Blue Skies

Well I'll be at work but there should be some people here....looks like it's gonna be a busy weekend for the instructors which means the otter will be flying alot. The fun jumper population may be alittle lower than usual....people saving up for the WFFC but I'm sure there will be plenty of people to jump with. Blue Skies Kelly
