How to make a major life decision in the next 48 hours
skybeergodd replied to kelel01's topic in The Bonfire
First of all you should date a Paramedic for awhile...to get the emergency side of medicine then get your butt over to registration and sign up for Nursing school.....the higher the education in medicine means more $$$ but less hands on skill work(unless your a surgeon).....Look at it this way...a typical very busy ER has 4 or 5 doctors and 12 or more RN's, LPN's or EMTP's...so a doctor sees 3 times as many patients...they basically spend 15 to 20 mins. with each patient the nursing staff will spend hours....So if you want to feel like you made a difference in some persons life or to actually make a connection with patients then nursing school is the only way to go........Oh Yeah and the first sentence is a shameless advertisement for myself... -
Well I learned a valuable lesson able cell phones the hard way. I broke my phone yesterday(long story but it was in multiple pieces)and when I went to get a new phone, I asked the phone guy if he could download my phonebook from my old one to my new one. I was confronted with one of those " are you stupid your phones in multiple pieces look" He then asked if I had saved my phone book on my SIM card and of course I replyed" what the hell is a SIM card?"I then knew I was screwed. So now I have a new phone and have to e-mail everyone to get their #'s again because my phone is the only phone book I have. Lessoned learned....keep a hard copy phone book too or don't drop your phone under a moving vehicle

Tandem Instructor Poll: Student Harness Adjustment
skybeergodd replied to slotperfect's topic in Instructors
I am totally amazed at the 90% ready to go for the student harness. Do YOU get on the plane with your gear 90% ready to go? That crap is absolutely 100% unacceptable. I am a tandem I/E and on my DZ if I see a student get on the plane anything less than 100% ready to go then I can guarantee that instructor will be 100% GROUNDED. I still cannot fathom why anyone would let their student on the plane not ready to go. I just have 1 question for all you 90% people out there.......DO YOU TELL THE STUDENT THAT YOU ARE COMPROMISING THEIR SAFETY FOR COMFORT? THINK BEFORE TAKING A STUDENT ON A JUMP -
I can't Hula hoop on the ground.....but I'm pretty damn good on Hoop Dives though...I've even got a special weighted hoop just for hoop dives

reserve ride on a fresh repack ie. first jump
skybeergodd replied to steviejb's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
After the regular re-pack she hook the main back up without pulling it out of the bag....and it was hooked up with the main on backwards....I packed it up again and she loaned it out to someone how was used to ROL and couldn't find the BOC and just pulled the reserve...So I packed it again and called it a day....I was just amazed after all the handle pulling that she didn't lose a single piece of equipment -
reserve ride on a fresh repack ie. first jump
skybeergodd replied to steviejb's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I did a repack in the morning on a rig....next jump---cut away and reserve ride....I pack the reserve again...she packed the main up..loaned the rig out and BAM---reserve ride again!!!....packed the same reserve 4 times in 1 day!!!! and to top it all off she was my GF so I didn't even get paid(until later that night) -
I have....a butler seat pack rig....pilot experienced an engine fire and cabin filled with smoke. He wasn't even a jumper!!!....I also know the pilot at Taylorville IL. bailed after a jumper had a pre-mature deployment and became entangled with the tail..That pilor was an experienced jumper.

I agree with Judy....I've had FF before and even though we were never a couple we satisfied each other needs and the need of sex also include intimacy and kissing fore play and touching is all a part of it.Thats just my opinion anyway.
-
I agree with everyone who suggested nasal steroids....I personally use Zyrtec-D and Rhinocort. That keeps me pretty even and being from Missouri (the center of all pollens and molds) thats saying something. As far as the class 3 medical....I have one and just under the medication portion I just list Claritin.Zyrtec isn't approved by the FAA yet. They are about 30 years behind on everything.

Invest in a pair of removeable handle bodkins....Sunshine Factory used to sell them. They make packing Racers a breeze.

Good Luck!!!!!I remember my days in paramedic class and it wasn't bad at all. 16 years later and I still love what i do and like running calls....not so much after 11pm afte all I do like to sleep too.

Riggers - do you use packers?
skybeergodd replied to councilman24's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I almost never use a packer....Nationals, WFFC, any other boogie or even just a really busy day at my DZ, I always pack for myself. I just prefer my openings(soft and on heading) and I have seen packers get rushed and just plain abuse gear in the name of getting $5 quickly.I know there are some really good packers out there but there are also alot of really bad ones too so I just don't take the chance. -
Finally the day came and I did it.

Tandem Malfunction - Video all Tandem masters needs to see!
skybeergodd replied to flyer299's topic in Instructors
I'll get pics this weekend and send them to you.....it's a very simple and easy process.....literally 2 to 3 mins. to do -
I really don't see anyway to add extra padding.....If you do then the binding tape won't look right.....they are just so narrow at and above the 3 rings that there is just no room for the housings....I've thought about padding too but there just isn't any room without distorting the looks of the rig.
-
I've noticed the same thing on several microns and I believe what makes this more noticeable on the Micron is that it is so narrow near the three rings that the housing have no palce to go and get bunched up like what you described. I have a V-304 and it does the same thing and I have alot of customers who have the same complaint on their small Microns. I don't get the same complaints from the M-series customer though. What I've done is to put padding in jumpsuits in the upper chest shoulder area. That seemed to help alot.

skybeergodd replied to flyer299's topic in Instructors
If you call RW they will custom size housing for the secondary drouge release. We use Vector Tandems and I got 22 inch housing for our rigs and tacked them into place so that the handle for our Vectors are in the same place as it is found on the Sigma. That is a quick, easy and permanent solution. -
You can buy them direct from Relative Workshop.

any contrasting color make inspection easier....My DZO and rigging mentor always said to get as bright a reserve as possible so everyone knows there is a reserve out and they all start watching the sky for the freebag and main.....now with your color choices I'd have to say Yellow

in air collision on my level 3/ learning exper.
skybeergodd replied to countzero's topic in Safety and Training
Some instructors will blame students for their inadequacies at all cost. For me I can respect the instructor that can admit they did not perform 100%. Oh yeah..."gusts of wind" don't happen in freefall!!!no matter what the instructor says. -
lay belly down on the floor...get into a proper arch then point your toes....you should feel the slight pulling from your toes to your knees....get someone who knows what things should look like then judge if the booties are the right size....basically they should act like a ruddder.
