  1. Jesus said: "If you (plur.) have money, do not lend it out at interest. Rather, give [it] to one from whom you will not get it back." Gospel of St. Thomas Saying 95 Jesus said: "Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away." Matt 5:38-42 Jesus said: "But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also. Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again. And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful." Luke 6:27-36 His standards were pretty high when it came to the right reasons. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! 3. I have never said that students do not benefit from their own education; I said that society benefits tremendously as well. As far as college as a social scene, I had to give all that up in order to be able to afford to go to college. I'm lucky to see two parties a year, let alone each weekend. Such things are rarer now than before I went to college. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  4. More accurately, I believe we as a society would be better off if people were not so stressed obver healthcare. I don't have any illusions that such changes will take place in time to assist me, as a student. That does not mean that I don't believe the system needs overhauled. Besides, if you had read the post you would have seen where future increases in my tax payments would more than cover the healthcare as a student. Your implications that my motivations are selfish, and that I am trying to get something for nothing are ludicrous, innacurate, and unfounded. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! 5. I agree, as well. First, unless rules have changed since I was a youngster, no students are required to recite the pledge. It is voluntary. They can skip it wholly, or in part. Second, the term God is not specific to any religion. If it doesn't imply association with a particular religion in other documents, I wouldn't think it implies such an association within the pledge. 6. Happens all the time in florida and other states. Wouldn't surprise me if the same people were doing it in WA. Or, maybe you're right, maybe it was the evil Democrats in WA. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  7. The vast majority of students are doing society a favor by furthering their education. The difference in their lifetime tax contribution will likely far exceed average cost of healthcare while they are in school. In the short term, it may appear to be giving away healthcare at the expense of the taxpayer, but in the long run it is a sound investment. Oftentimes, seeing a doctor when a problem is small and still easily treated, is not possible because the problem is not yet dire enough for an emergency room to be interested in you. So the problem goes away, or continues to worsen until the necessary medical care costs significantly more than what it might have had the problem been taken care of earlier. The result is either very large bills for impoverished students, who are often already burdened with their student loans upon graduating, or the debt is written off, either at the direct expense of the taxpayers, or, indirectly, through writeoffs or other tax reducing mechanism in place. 8. Where have I heard this before? Let's see... However, there's a catch. When you can [make cheaper skydives because you bought your own equipment and came off student status], you tend to [jump] more. Thus, the savings aren't as great as if you kept s[kydiv]ing the same amount . . . as before. But s[kydiv]ing more makes you a better s[kydiv]er, so it's still worth it. Oh yeah, now I remember. 9. Believe it or not, I do like to examine both sides of any issue. I agree about your beauty . . . beholder statement, but quite honestly, I thought both of these films were, as a whole, BS. Both also had the potential (during filming/ production) to be valuable, informative, even if editorialized) films. I believe our thirst for sensationalism in the news causes us two problems. The first one is that problems appear to be where there is really no problem. The second is that we are often able to overlook minor problems until the point that they become major problems. A third problem arises when we understand that as a nation, or evn as a holistic international community, we are unable to distinguish between the two aforementioned problems. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to remedy the situation? Or maybe you completely disagree? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  11. I just watched Farenhype 9/11, which is the counter argument to Michael Moore's film. Wow. I thought some of Moore's claims were sensational and exaggerated. His didn't even come close to those presented in this film. Moore seems amazingly objective, by comparison. Wow. I'm not saying it was all lies, by any means. It did point out some creative editing on Moore's part, such as using one of Shrub's jokes at a "high dollar per plate" dinner as a serious statement, which, when showed in context, was clearly a deception on Moore's part. It did not, however, make any attempt to discredit Moore's claim, which came with supporting video, that the White House, at the beginning of Shrub's administration, via Colon Powell and Condalezza Rice, considered Iraq to be without posession of WMD, ad did not consider Iraq to be a threat to U.S. They did try to blame the September 11 attacks on the Clinton/ Gore administration, though, despite warnings that Shrub had previous. Also tried to paint Moore as as one who associates himself with terrorist organizations. There were even some outright lies, including another references to seeing the first plane hit the WTC on the screen, before the second plane hit. This footage was simply not available at that time. In short, the film made exactly the same mistake Moore's film did, by exaggerating the truth to the point of lying. Both films could have been made more honestly and objectively, without losing their editorial biases, to create more valid arguments. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! 12. While I don't shoot often, it is my favorite rifle to shoot, of the two I own. 15. Okay, Sorry, I forgot the smiley thingies. I was being a bit on the sarcastic side. Assuming the guy was in fact being beaten with a bat, or other blunt instrument, I find it ludicrous to think it could be found as anything other than self defense. Believe me, if someone is trying to use my head for batting practice, and I have a gun (or any other weapon), you better believe I am going to use it in my own defense. Math tutoring available. 24. Very well said. Also, Jung spent a lifetime studying the connections between man myth and religion. I highly reccomend reading some of his thoughts on the matter, as it can be very enlightening, and objective. I cannot figure out if he was the son of a minister trying to prove his father right, or prove him wrong. It is worth pointing out, I believe, that some of histories greatest scientific achievements came from search for religious truth. Copernicus was a priest, and Newton was devoutly religious. Einstein claimed to seek the mind of God, saying everything else was detail. Science is a religion in its own right, filled with paradox. It is nothing more than the most accurate, or at least most popularly accepted, metaphor to explain our perceptions and observations of the world around us, at any given time. In a sense it is nothing but a constantly evolving religion. Einstein predicted that one day a theory would come along that was more accurate than relativity theory, just as he had done to Newtons laws of gravitation and inertia. There are several books, such as Fritjof Capra's The Tao of Physics that highlight striking similarities between modern physics and Eastern Religions. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour!
