  1. Uh, yeah, I think I already said that's what I was doing, planning to teach. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  2. I really wish you would stop putting words in my mouth. Show me a post where I put Kerry in a positive light. That is what is so appalling. It is afair question, and there are other fair questions that have been completely avoided. It is a sad day when our government becomes so secretive fair questions cannot be raised and answered with candid answers. As for party allegience, I have none. My philosophy is that the number one priority is to remove the Republicans from power. The number two priority (a very, very close second) is too make sure the Democrats don't seize it in the ensuing vacuum. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  3. There's not much call for combat arms outside the military. I could probably find a civilian job killing people, blowing shit up and setting things on fire, but I would like to think I've grown a little bit emotionally. I am taking responsibility. I am putting myself through school. I didn't ask you for shit. I pointed out it was a terribly inefficient, illogical system when viewed objectively. For that many have implied that I am lazy for going to school. It boggles the mind how dense such a large portion of the population is. I know, what if we make it easier to get an education... 4. I'll answer this first. I ain't bitchin. I've been painted that way by you and others, but that doesn't make it true. Any suggestion I have made would not be implemented in time to benefit me. I am pointing out a significant shortcoming in the system, and suggesting that it be fixed for the sake of posterity, even if the transition does burden me a little bit. That is an oppurtunity to be envious of, but not a realistic expectation at a community college. Also, fewer sections of each class are available, so there is less flexibility in schedule. I have my degree from this school, but I can't transfer anywhere until I pick up the rest of my math, so I am stuck with this school's schedule. Wake up dude. Smart men would not settle for such a terribly inefficient system. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  5. If you followed the whole post you would know that I said that sometimes a school schedule is not compatible with the hours necessary to keep the job. I was let go for that very reason from my last job. When I have the oppurtunity to work, I work. I cannot, however, go to school without significant loans, even trying to go part time, and as such am trying to get through in as few years as possible, which also reduces my time available to work. I admire that you are able to work full time and go to school part time. That is a more expensive route in my situationin both time and money. Unfortunately, one size does not fit all. 6. I C Somehow I was picturing a Harley Davidson polise bike. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  7. Bush has exploited 9/11 for its fear producing factors since day one, and has not ever fully cooperated in an independent investigation. There are many questions left unasked. I am not accusing the man of impropriety, but I do not feel they are unfair questions. I understand why he would not want to answer over and over again, but once would be nice. From an objective perspective, the attacks on WTC were a 60% spike in the national daily death poll. Why is the president so eager to go to war to avenge it, to the extent of repeatedly lying to the public about Iraq'a connections with the September 11 attacks. But, is quite reluctant to answer questions concerning the attack, and why SOP was not followed with respect to NORAD. I don't like that this is a behind closed doors adminastration. We are not about secret governments here in America. I don't like that both major parties have failed to seriously investigate election improprieties. I would be just as pissed off and vocal about them if the resulting error was one sided in the other direction. If its not fixed, sooner or later it will go the other direction, and the just a different half, largely, will cry out. I don't like the reaching authority given by the PATRIOT Act. I do not think there is a price for even small civil liberties. "They that would give up essential liberties in order to obtain some temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety," according to Ben Franklin. I do not like that Shrub and his enterage have demonstrators hidden from view or arrested in order to avoid any negative press. Perhaps he should instead consider things from the perspective of the demonstrators, we wouldn't be in the mess we are in. I must have missed those two years. They weren't 2001, 2002, 2003, or 2004, so when were they? Let me know when there are jobs available like in the Clinton years, because that is a MUCH more reliable indicator than Shrub's empty claims. So far all I see is deficit spending, and that is not good for an economy, at least not when it is used to pay for a war that has been lied about since day 1 and before. I mean, I like to look on the bright side, but Shrub ain't exactly a ray of sunshine. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  8. All at the same time? Your jump tickets must be really expensive. How much does your bike weigh, anyway? Do you use a tandem rig with it, or do you have some special cargo rigging? Does the altitude make it cheaper to get drunk? It sounds like fun, and something I might want to try. I just want to get some input from you, first, so I can go about it safely. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  9. That is one of many problems. The underlying one is the man himself. I realize you disagree with that, but it is my perception based on four years of observation of his policies and practices. I do not feel that way about the Republican Party in general, even though I generally disagree with Republican views. I wasn't proud to call Clinton the President of my country, but I am completely ashamed that we have bestowed that title upon Shrub. I hardly feel that I can silently let him work his mischief. 10. Combined with the overall net job loss of this president, that indicates the rich are getting richer even faster. That that fail to study history are doomed to repeat it. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  11. I guess you really don't get the joke. I have to laugh about 52% of the voters actually buying into the whole character thing, because I don't want to cry believing that people are really that gullible. I think it is better to laugh than cry when I realize that there are people that consider FOX News a credible news source. I think its better to laugh than cry that so many people bought into the whole John Kerry flip-flops idea. Especially coming from a guy that can't get any of his stories straight. In short, I believe Shrub to be lacking integrity. Integrity is something I consider to be essential in a man of good character. That is why the idea of Shrub running on the issue of being of superior, moral character is so funny to me. Be cause it is so far fetched, and yet was still sold. The only other thing to do is cry over the sad condidtion into which he has put the country. Even still, I did not critisize his donation, as you are trying to imply, again, trying to assasinate my character instead of making intelligent points. You're smarter than that, Dorbie. Why are you stooping to such levels? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  12. Yeah, I do this 24/7/52, didn't you know? While classes are out, and can't afford to live it up during my downtime, yeah, I might post on a discussion board. If I had a job oppurtunity, that would be my priority. But people are addly reluctant to hire anyone who is soon not going to be available for more than an hour or two at a stretch during the business day. You claim to have all the answers, but you don't have a clue what life is like for a college student in the local economy here. This isn't some fantasy world where you can go out and get three or four job offers in a single day, like I could have in the nineties, but then again, we don't have such a strong domestic leader instilling confidence in the population today. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  13. I see quoting wildly out of context is catching on around here. If you will look back and read my post, (ROFLMFAO), it was in respect to Shrub running on character. To say that he is a man of character, well its just really f@#$ing funny, hence the (ROFLMFAO). It should not be taken to literally mean that I am on the floor, rolling around laughing so hard that my ass actually seperated from my body. It is an expression, a figure of speech. doesn't mean I'm really winking. does not imply my tongue is actually sticking out. I didn't really just put on sunglasses. Or blush. My eyelashes do not really potrude past the edge of my face. I'm not sure I can even make that face. I am not wearing a halo. Can't remember ever making this face, either. This should in no way inply that I own a parrot. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  14. I've heard its easiest to find a job when you're sick. No, public transportation is available, until such time I am able to make/ pay for repairs. I've done it before. If you wonder if I am in favor of having public transportation available, then yes, I am. But, let's stay on topic, shall we? No one brought up automobile repairs. You make it sound as though I am saying that no one should ever have to work if they don't feel like it. That is not at all what I am saying. If you would express your concerns in the more productive form of questions, instead of countering claims I never made, we might be able to have a constructive debate. As far as work, I work odd jobs when time permits. Study time requirements are funny. They might be six hours this week and sixty next week. I am not afraid of work by any stretch of the imagination, but the fact of the matter remains that work is sometimes not the most productive use of ones time. Math tutoring available. 16. The low cost is relative to the cost of necessary treatment if the problem escalates to the point where it requires emergency attention, which is very costly. The cost is not so low when compared to the income of anun/under employed student. For the price of a doctor's visit I can eat well for a month. A month's worth of food money gone from my budget is not so easily overcome. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  17. Whe he made the information public, that made the topic open for public commentary. When he runs on character (ROFLMFAO), that makes charitable donations fair game for public commentary. Furthermore, I did not criticize Shrub for his donation. I merely refuted the claim that he donated 3% of his annual income, which he clearly did not do. Please do not put words in my mouth. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  18. Pleasure is a manifestitation of Love, and not the other way around. For example, I love mathematics and the intrinsic elegance and simplicity. I find little, if any, pleasure in learning mathematics, however. It is difficult, and a pain in the ass, and takes time away from other things I find pleasurable, but do not love to such a degree. Again, Ron, you don't know me, and have no idea what my motivations are. Not that it is any of your business, I would like to go into teaching, and not for the money, but because I can make the most positive difference there. No, I'm no Mother Theresa, but I'm not motivated by financial selfishness, either. No, Ron, you haven't. You keep saying it is a bad investment, but you have provided no evidence to support your argument. Nor are they contributing to a large costs at the expense of the taxpayer, Ron. Pretty simple. No, the would have excluded the point entirely. Why do you like to smear people so much? Wow, impressive. Would you kindly thank him for me for making available to us a reliable alternative to Microsoft PCs? I countered the deductions with an worst case 10% tax rate. You're right, not all will be doctors, but, even a Bachelor degree will increase earning potential. Until I went back to school, I have consistantly been fully, oftentimes doubly, employed. I have yet to get up to the poverty line. I have come to the realistic conclusion that an education beyond a HS diploma is my best shot. I don't understand why we allow our society to make it so difficult to get an education, when an educated population is cleary beneficial to the society. I realize that such a system is going to put an unfair burden on current taxpayers who had to pay their own way, and now would be expected to help pay the way of others. In the long run, though, it would be a small price to pay for the long term benefit of a better educated population. In a few generations, all the payers will have been payees, so any real cost to the taxpayer is really due to transition to the new system, and not the system itself. Math tutoring available. 19. Careful not to assume that Shrub's salary equals Shrub's income. His income consists of money his investments make, too. He did not give three percent of his annual income, he gave (less than) 3% of his annual salary as POTUS. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  20. First, the two primary motivators are fear and love. Next, please do assume you know anything about my motivations. Money cannot buy me pleasure. While your motivations may have been selfish, that is not the case for everyone. Some of the high dropout rate is due to tuition expense. Other contributing factors include poor time management, lack of motivation, and difficulty. If sttudents drop out of school, they are no longer students, and tend to go into the work force. Funny you should mention dance. From the Reed College brochure: "Steve Jobs [You know Steve Jobs, right Ron? Co-founder of Apple computer?] credits his early success as a programmer to the sense of spacial relationships and movement he developed while taking a Reed dance class." Not only was his dance instruction a valuable part of his education, it helped him earn WAY more than he might have otherwise. Liberal Arts degrees teach students how to think, making them far more versatile (and valuable) in the workplace. $1M at 10% is $100,000, which far exceeds the average medical expenses of college students. That makes it a good investment, not a bad one. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  21. Except around finals, I'm really not that stressed. I gave up drinking a while back, except for free Guiness (the free part just keeps me from drinking too much, which, I personally, have to worry about). I put very little stock in grades, myself, but that is a whole different topic for a new thread. I also prefer to work, when that is a feasable option. Some semesters it is, some it is not, but, through work and loans I am going it pretty much alone. Uncle Sam even came up with an excuse to deny me my GI Bill benefits (statement of fact, not bitching). I also agree that the social and communication skills are important. I study Math/ Physics, with an eye towards grad work in Astrophysics, Cosmology, Quantum Theory, or Chaos Theory. Some semesters the load is light, based on difficulty od classes, and some semesters it is very difficult and time consuming. Since I have been posting on here, I have been on winter break, so it doesn't interfere with any classes. Plus, I take odd jobs when they are available to me, which is sporadic at best, but they do help, and I am glad to have them. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  22. I was sent to the dreaded principal's office, for not even standing, to show my lack of support for Desert Storm. I remember he was about as confused as I was as to why I was sent his way. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  23. Ron, Kerry lost. Get over it. I see you bring Kerry up more often than anyone else. Move on. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  24. Comparing Florida's hurricanes to the tsunami that hit the coastlines of the Indian Ocean is pretty comical. We were driving around looking for open restaurants (finally found IHOP) when Jeane (or maybe it was Frances) was directly overhead. Think people in the path of the tsunami were able to just go about their business? While Florida's hurricanes were severe in comparison to blue sky jump weather, they were cake compared to a tsunami of this magnatude. Still, Pumpkinhead was able to spin them as the worst natural disaster in the history of our country. The fact of the matter is that the Bush family has a consistent history of acting with political motivations rather than humanitarian ones. While I'm sure every dollar, euro or yen is appreciated, I'm not ready to pat the president on the back just yet. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  25. Very good point. He was also willing to except LOTSA cash, from somewhat dubious contributors, to save a failed business venture. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
