Rehnquist to Congress - quit messing with judicial independence

Yet you still believe marijuana should remain illegal and the war on drugs should continue. I don't follow the logic. Perhaps you've heard of gruel. Russia sustained on the stuff for a couple of centuries, if I remember correctly. Plus, anything you can make with soybean, you can make with cannabis seeds. They are the two most nutritional plants on the planet. While soy contains more nutrients, cannabis has more nutrients readily available to our bodies. Check out the links on industrial hemp in the original post. Cannabis has hundreds of cannabinoids, of which some, including THC, are pshycoactive. Marinol (Synthetic THC) has not shown the extensive promise raw cannabis has shown. If it could be legally grown in this country, hemp clothing would be more common, as it is generally superior to most all fibers commonly used in clothing. You can use hemp to produce building materials. Perhaps you have never heard of the car Henry Ford grew from the soil? From Popular Mechanics Magazine (Vol. 76, No. 6, December, 1941. Title: Auto Body Made of Plastics Resists Denting Under Hard Blows.): "After twelve years of research, the Ford Motor Company has completed an experimental automobile with a plastic body. Although its design takes advantage of the properties of plastics, the streamline car does not differ greatly in appearance from its steel counterpart. The only steel in the hand-made body is found in the tubular welded frame on which are mounted 14 plastic panels, 3/16 inch thick. Composed of a mixture of farm crops and synthetic chemicals, the plastic is reported to withstand a blow 10 times as great as steel without denting. Even the Windows and windshield are of plastic. The total weight of the plastic car is about 2,000 pounds, compared with 3,000 pounds for a steel automobile of the same size. Although no hint has been given as to when plastic cars may go into production, the experimental model is pictured as a step toward materialization of Henry Ford's belief that some day he would "grow automobiles from the soil." "When Henry Ford recently unveiled his plastic car, result of 12 years of research, he have the world a glimpse of the automobile of tomorrow, its tough panels molded under hydraulic pressure of 1,500 pounds per square inch from a recipe that calls for 70 percent of cellulose fibers from wheat straw, hemp, and sisal plus 30 percent resin binder. The only steel in the car is its tubular welded frame. The plastic car weighs a ton, 1,000 pounds lighter than a comparable steel car. Manufacturers are already talking of a low-priced plastic car to test the public's taste by 1943." http://hempmuseum.org/ROOMS/ARM%20PLASTICS.htm What social problems would be necessary? What health risks? NOT ONE PERSON'S death has ever been credibly attributed to cannibis. IT HAS SHOWN PROMISE AS AN ANTI-CANCER TREATMENT!!! What problems do you speak of? Math tutoring available. Pretty sure it was them. I'll find out the specifics for you. Common misconceptions. I know very productive PhD.s and other professionals that have smoked heavily for decades. I think you replied to the wrong post, but you're right about the viable option to synthetics such as nylon or rayon, or even polyester. The parachute lines on the first canopy to save Bush's life, in WWII, were hemp. If it were legal, a lot of money made by petroleum, timber, and pharmaceutical companies could instead be made by American farmers. In fairness, there are also other promising options for bio-fuel. I agree. We need to stop giving big corporations free tax dollars. It is bad for the economy, and costs money that could be used far more productively. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

You seem to be under the impression that these are always options. I know better than to make such assumptions. An investment in bettering oneself, in furthering their education is a good investment. You argue as though this person would be getting something for nothing. That is not the case. They pay for their education, they just do it after they get it and are reaping the benefits, and putting lots more money back into the economy. There are no quick fixes, and to ignore the problem does not motivate it to go away, as much as some people would like that to be true. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! They are the exceptions, not the rule. It would be foolish to plan tax use around those people, as it would not be cost effective. There are many possible solutions to reduce such sponge effect without decreasing benefits to those who need them. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Remember that a more general system of assistance would have fewer loop holes to take advantage of. Also bear in mind that you have to look at the effects of such a system over several decades compared to the current status quo, and the past several decades. It is better to help people out of poverty with education, not a lifetime on the dole. Giving people just enough so that they will survive allows them to do little more than that. An education, on the other hand, gives hope and promise of a productive life. I truly believe that the vast majority of people enjoy feeling productive, and having a sense of accomplishment. People don't live on the dole because they want to. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

What if the Pres/ SecGen walks through that gate because the man's children asked for help? What if they walk through that gate under suspicion that you might become aggressive, if left alone? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Fair enough. I am very Taoist in my philosophy towards conflict. I have read The Art of War many times. I have never been fond of authority, and have always thought for myself, instead of accepting pre-packaged information. So I am not likely to support a war without believing in the cause. In that sense, I am a consciencous objector. I am, however, not a pacifist. If I deem something worthy of fighting for, then I will fight for it, or, more realistically as I get older, I will support it in anyway I can. But, as Sun Tzu said, violence is seldom the best way to resolve conflict. But, when it is necessary, win quickly and decisively. No nation ever benefited from prolonged conflict. Yes, but the problem started before the concentration camps. And the League of Nations had even less authority than does the UN. Hardly a fair comparison to todays situations, where we ignore countries asking for help, but forcefully "help" countries that did not ask. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! I've never lived in a state where one could quit a job on order to go back to school, and draw unemployment benefits. Every state I've lived in required you to be fired, or other not so easy to qualify for criteria before you are eligible for benefits. And if you are eligible, you have to be available to work 24/7. And they don't pay anywhere near 100% of your lost wages. The money they take from the system is paid back into the system, and then some, with the extra tax money collected after a better job is obtained. Everybody comes out ahead. How is that not a good use for your tax money? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

You mean like Sudan? yeah. Or in Iraq, after Desert Storm when there was a popular uprising against SH, and they asked for our help? Yeah. Iraq today? No, the kids didn't ask for help. Many people are underemployed, so the fact the could get more money by quitting their job is meaningless without knowing the income. The thing to compare is present income vs. reasonably expected potential income after school. If the change is large, then, yes, it is a good move for everyone involved, including the taxpayers. On the other hand, if he is just having a mid-life crisis, and wants to retrain in a job where there is little demand, or he offers little potential, what would be the point? No one benefits. This looks like it might be from the KJV Bible, do to the old English format. This sounds more proverbial than Biblical. While it can probably be found in one form or another in the Bible, as many proverbs do, it is unlikely that was its first manifestation. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! The answer is not to stop assistance, but to give that assistance in a more productive manner. If that costs slightly more in the short term, so be it. In the long term it will be a good investment, by addressing the underlying problem, and not just the symptom. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Here you go from, first, conceding my point on relative safety, to your last thought, again referring to marijuana as an element of a set labeled "dangerous substances." The very reason it should be legal if alcohol is legal is that it offers a much safer alternative to alcohol's intoxicating effects. In fact, you would be very hard pressed to find a single other pschoactive substance that is lower in toxicity than cannabis. I'm not sure which countries you are referring to that no one gives a shit about. I hope you speak only for yourself on that point. Do you really think that availability is a major problem? As far as foreign drug laws go, some of those laws are stipulations of US assistance. And others are not enforced. In fact, unless it has changed in the past couple of years, or so, marijuana use is no longer an arrestable offense in UK. And Canada has been rethinking their stance in the issue as well, as I understand it. Actually, studies show that, while cannabis use can affect driving ability, it does so on a much lesser magnatude than does alcohol. In fact, regular users that have just smoked an amount smaller than usual, actually consistantly perform slightly better than if completely sober. I think it was AAA that did the study, but I'll have to go talk to my local Freedom Fighter before I can site the reference. I'm not saying that it's a good idea to drive while high, I'm just saying that the fears are largely unwarranted. I have to ask how you lost a friend/loved one to marijuana use. They died? Or stopped being your friend/loved one? Just curious. Aside from food, fuel, medicinal, paper, clothing, housing, and transportation applications, as well as providing a tax source, you're right, it wouldn't solve any problems. ==`0 Math tutoring available.
