My guess would be simple protocols and procedures. Only the supervisor is authorized/qualified to look at it and say "yep, that's a parachute". When I traveled I got hassled more over my laptop than my rig(even tho I forgot to remove the hook knife). "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. I have a Wings PC with freefly handle. It's a standard freefly handle with a stiffener tab sewn on, then 1 or 2 inches of string running from the tab to the apex. It would be nice if they could remove the tab and string, or at least just the string, so as not to have an entanglement hazard. Easiest thing would be to switch to the PVC pipe style handle. If you're that worried about it then why not just get a bigger pilot chute and smaller slider?? "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

I've been thinking along the same lines. That wearing my full-face bonehead helmet and the plane ride being 20 minutes or less should be okay. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

My crazy idea went a little like this: Basically a tailhook contraption like Navy planes use to land on a carrier, except adapted to a bungee. Horizontal flexible cable layed out, The hook/catch mechanism on the flyer's feet. All he's gotta do it hook the catch mechanism on the cable, and it's a bungee jump from there on out. So this would be setup at regular bungee sites of course. It would be easy to test since the jumper can still try it out with a rig, in case he misses the cable on the flyby. You won't be dissapointed, guaranteed. First few flights are a real treat; eye opening. Of course, while you wait you could continue homebuilt experiments...?

Ah, yes, the dieing insideness. Yet there's none of that connected to car accidents, or lightning stikes, or train wrecks, or the multitude of more common things which you're exposed to that kill more people than skydiving. Would it make a difference if you just retort about what a great job your mother did in raising you to be such a smart, safety-concious boy? Or perhaps the solution would be to show them the "The Nice Nerf(tm) version of skydiving" where everything is bright, shiny, and smiling all the time, 24/7, even at night. -

Same sentiments as jp. For alot of people the risks don't sink in until they see the consequences, so the video was appropriate. It was a good post if: - it made only just 1 more person put more thought into their safety and training. - made one more person realize they are not willing to take that serious of a risk and are in over their head. Funny you should say that, cause I was one of the ones that didn't get that memo. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

Guess I'm lucky I don't jump in Colorado or use a Cypress aad then. Also I turn the aad off if I know I'm exiting around 2K, just in case.

That's a VERY slow opening canopy. What I have is a neptune alarm set (3rd alarm) to sound when it's no longer safe to pitch the main(according to how long my canopy takes to open). For me that alarm is at 1600. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

Smart 150, there is one for sale right now. The 160 would be better though if the pack volume is within limits. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957 -
When I first installed SP2 it messed my computer so bad I had to do a clean reinstall. Then waited till this year sometime when they came out with a new BIOS update which allowed me to install SP2. Was nervous while installing, but it worked fine. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

So Perry was in the orange Prodigy? It sounds and looks like he was beat at his very own favorite game (low pullin) But perhaps if they had a skydiving-based rematch things would be different. It's really too bad that James wasn't able to drag Robi out there. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

If it has a throttle body (where the air goes after the air filter) check if that's clogged/dirty. Maybe PCV (positive crankcase ventilation). Just ideas though, not gospel, since I'm not a mechanic. That would be interesting. Have a disconnect at the handle, and pull the cable out from the reserve side. Wipe it down, refeed it through the housing, and reconnect the handle. Think though that the vast majority of people dont get nearly enough dirt on their reserve cable to affect performance. petition for exemption to the 120 day reserve repack cycle denied
tr027 replied to jsaxton's topic in Gear and Rigging
Well, the poll is showing 70+% of people trash their gear then (for not cleaning cables at least every 30 days), and if I understand your post correctly, the 4month cycle is the only thing saving those people(roughly). I clean mine as required, usually takes them 2 months to show any signs of dirt. I'm sure if I was rolling in every landing it would be different. In other words, I clean them according to my individual gear's needs, not according to when someone else's on the east coast gets dirty or according to the guideline based on somebody else's gear. If it were to change tomorrow to weekly, and my cables arent getting dirty weekly, I'd still clean at the same intervals. But that's just me, maybe my cables are on the higher side of the average 'time-before-dirty', nationwide. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it.
