Well, it doesn't sound like you have fallrate issues, which is what most brand new people get jumpsuits for. Because of this I would suggest you just use some overalls or other relatively snagfree clothing until you progress your skills enough to know the discipline specific requirements you want of your suit. With suits it's better to know what you want, and that takes some time in the sport to figure out very well. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. petition for exemption to the 120 day reserve repack cycle denied
tr027 replied to jsaxton's topic in Gear and Rigging
Yea, that also surprises the heck outta me. I never knew that if you submerged a reserve in pond water that the grommets would rust. This is nothing short of outrageous. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957 -
How about jousting on the railing? Except for this the point is to stay on the bridge. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

Perhaps activation/thresholds are different? Just looking to see if this has happened to other Neptune users, and what the threshold is, for FYI purposes. I have the latest version and it is reading nearly full battery. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

Does the same apply to audible alarm thresholds? yesterday I had a jump where I passed through my first alarm and didnt hear it, only heard my second alarm during the trapdoor/initial deployment phase. Starting to wonder that perhaps audibles aren't so reliable. BTW this was on a Neptune v2.6.0 "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. Too bad. Maybe it's just the material or construction used that is causing the problem? "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

Try everything to free the reserve and take it with me first, so as not to leave any canopies hanging over the tail, for the plane's sake. Even though I might feel more in danger at the time, sitting here thinking about it makes me feel the plane is more in danger than me hanging there. If there's no way to free it then cut it off the risers. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

Well, if the operator is too dumb to realize you shouldnt calibrate your aad after takeoff, I wouldn't expect the unit to know any better either. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

I'm unhappy about the Skyhook ad in the October Parachutist
tr027 replied to labrys's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
EXACTLY! My opinion is the whole point of the ad is to show/say that the skyhook will get you under your reserve at least 300 feet earlier than non-skyhook, no matter what the mal is. Fashion, of course. Such a unit already exists, is called an Astra, and it conserves battery life doing it that way. However, having an aad out in the open went out of fashion a while ago, it's more fashionable to hide them now. So you'll have to think of a solution that doesn't conflict with current fashion trends. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. Even the worlds best have fucked themselves up swooping, so commonly in fact that it seems like almost a requirement. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

Straight down? Just admit it... taking a wingsuit into a vertical wind tunnel is a fun trick, nothing more. Nah, now I want to see tunnel flocking!! yea!! maybe with some hog flopping and over-unders, etc. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. Clearly, without the strong directive ultimatums from Mommy and Daddy (S&TA and DZO) the children will run wild, astray in mischief. Probably 'cause they were not taught enough in the course of their licensing. Oh well. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. I completely agree with you there and realize it's an unpopular opinion, but will express it anyway. I think it's pretty a clear-cut case of abdication of personal responsibility. Everybody wants to blame the DZ or the S&TA or somebody working at the DZ. Almost as if the jumper that bounced was their victim. I feel this is an extension of the tendency of Americans to abdicate their own personal responsibility. This isn't a kid's sport...who is responsible for you on your skydive??? you are. Who is responsible for making sure your equipment is ready to go and in-date?? you are. The DZ is not there to babysit licensed jumpers who should either A.) Know better or B.) Know how to find out. I would much rather see jumpers handling their own responsibilities like grown-ups rather than more infringements on freedoms of responsible skydivers. Yea, I think that was it. Thanks alot

Had more fun with the Phantom today. I did some backflying and later took a passenger on a ride along flight. The backflying went well, feels weird first few times trying it, but got very flockable fallrate (50s), so it's good. Flyin with a passenger takes more practice, and it would be good to figure out a way to not go headdown on the exit, even though it pulls out of it after a few seconds.

Calm down, somehow I don't think they intended the jump for performance, since you can see the runway from the exit shot. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

Yea, I wasn't seeing any way to clean them up without either causing other damage or sending it in to PD, so was just wondering. Thanks. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

For a canopy with lots of jumps showing wear and tear on the crossports, what is the best maintenance to keep the fraying at a minimum? Thanks. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

IMHO, I would direct you to the senior pilots at your DZ that are familiar/know your abilities, to help you make that decision. It's doable, but not right for everybody, and everybody has different risk tolerances. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. I think it was well demonstrated in the video here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1766594;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread Basically slaloming through the outcroppings in the cliff.
