  1. And, no low, last minute, panic mode, hard hook turn to avoid a tree, followed by a loud thud!! Nice Job! You landed in a tree and you lived to jump again. Lesson learned by all of us. (I Hope!) Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  2. Yup!!! All those people crashing in the video.... that's you and me! And there goes Hayden, riding around us laughing Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  3. Sorry to hear about your Kitty! Good vibes coming your way....... Hmmmmmm..... Hmmmmmmm...... Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  4. Uhhh, ME! I could live with being that Sucky!! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  5. How so? I have a couple hundred CRW jumps with a rig that has B-12's. Never a problem. Theoretically, a line could slip into the snap if you were in a wrap or entaglement. It could happen?? It's something to be aware of.... But, it's nothing a good hook knife couldn't cure. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  6. www.skydivingmuseum.org I'm donating Airtwardo and Popsjumper!! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  7. I have some rope for $ale.... A side note, after my last post (above) someone PM'd me to offer us his old Maverick to use for training CRW pups. Skydivers are the greatest people on the face of the planet!!!!
  8. I sat in on several instructors when I recently got my coach rating. I was impressed with most of those I watched. Each had a different style. Which is good! However, the instructors who were also professional teachers, I noticed used several strategies to accomodate the various learning styles of the individual students. Also, they were more aware of the various cues being given by the students. This is something that takes even the best of teachers years to learn. So, is it an advantage to hold a teachers licence/certificate... Absolutely! Can anyone else learn these skills... Absolutely! After all, the teachers learned it somehow. The fact that these skills are necessary is evident to the USPA as they've included these ideas in the coach course. As for the whole "those who can't, teach", comment, I'd like to clarify.... Those who can't, teach. Those who can't teach, teach Phys Ed. Those who can't teach Phys Ed., end up jumpen out of airplanes for a living?????? 9. I've had them on most of my rigs. I just ordered a new rig and it will have B-12's. Love them, never had issue with them. Some people will tell you they're NOT as comfy as step thru harness. Those would be the people who never had B-12's. Go ahead and spend the extra few dollars, then you too can sit back and laugh as the "cool" guys contort and squirm to get into their gear. 10. Probly pulp wood. Used for paper. The problem with High Buck trees like Chestnut or Walnut is they take about 75-100 years to grow. But Hell, go ahead and invest. Future woodworkers will love you for it. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  11. Do you think?? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  12. What the hell! Didn't you see my picture posted earlier?? Here it is again.... That's me jumping that building just before deploying. I think around 2-300 ft. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  13. Even ragged out used CRW gear cost $$$$$. We've put together these (in nice shape) rigs for little or nothing. Also, we were using this type of gear for CRW 20 years before you started jumping. So, it may not be as scary as you might think. You just need to account for the PC. Static line makes sense.... We've talked about this. Hopefully, we'll be able to move into CRW rigs sometime soon. A couple of us are thinking about new or good used Storms. Until then, we're sparking interest in CRW to newbs. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  14. We've been doing F-111 CRW here. We've put together several rigs to use. Unfortunately, none have retractable PC's. Let us know what you do and how it works??? We're using Furrys, Mavericks, etc. We're aware of the PC's and very carefull with them. But, they still scare me. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  15. Nice building, but I've already jumped it! Here's the pic...... If need be, I think I can "produce" the video Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  16. Winchester Model 1200 w/ Sawed off 3" slug barrel and pistol grip stock. Not easy to conceal, but pretty good stopping power! It only takes about 4 weeks of therapy to heal my wrist after I fire a round. OK. I don't really carry that, but, I'm looking at buying a hand gun to shoot at the range. Looking for good quality inexpensive and not interested in conceal & carry. My son is in the military and has his conceal & carry and I think we'd have a good time together at the range. I'm thinking about a 9mm Berretta?? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  17. In my previous post, I did NOT mean to insinuate that only "teachers" should instruct skydivers. I would much rather see the experienced, passonate skydiver do that. What I was trying to point out is simply that to change the system, it may be a better strategy to make changes at the top thru the IE's. 18. Just an update. Looks like a similar thread on another forum. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3763364;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  19. Microsoft Movie Maker http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/results.aspx?freetext=movie+maker&displaylang=en&stype=s_basic It's a great (FREE) tool that I use for my video production students as an introductory software package. Easy to use and did I mention FREE?? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  20. One warning... beware of the "experienced" person you ask for gear advice who ends a sentance with... "and as it just so happens, I have one for sale".
  21. I saw them at Best Buy just before X-Mass for $399.00 Kinda mad I didn't buy one. That price will come down some. The question is, how long will Sony produce them? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  22. I just hope your numbers hold up. A safer sport means more of my friends to jump with in the future. And, +1 on the BE SAFE IN 2010 Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  23. Being in education, I'd like to offer an idea for discussion. Instructors (AFF or Tandem) are basically teachers. Is it possible that a better way to increase the efficiency and skill of the teachers/instructors is to better prepare them? To this end, would we be better off focusing our attentions on those few individuals who are responsible for "teaching and certifying the future instructors"?? Maybe it's the Tandem/AFF-I Examiner program that needs revision? It would seem that higher standards held by those certifying the instructors would do more to increase proficiency than any type of increased base requirements? Food for thought. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  24. That wouldn't matter, the blood sucking lawyers would just go after the next deep pocket on the $$Food chain. They've known for years that it doesn't matter if you win or lose the law suit. What matters is what it'll cost anyone to fight the suit. They're not after a win, their after a $ettlement! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  25. Just for clarification From the article… Can you fall out of a properly fastened harness? by Jan Meyer “Little bungy cross connector between leg straps That bungy and binding tape can easily break during a premature opening if you were in a sitfly position. The fact that jumpers have these is indicative that we are already noticing that we are falling out of our rigs.“ It's my understanding that the bungy keeps the leg straps from sliding down to your knees. Thus, not putting you into a situation where the harness can slide off if you get a premature deployment in a sitfly position?? Are these modifications/bungys effective or are they giving us a false sense of security? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
