  1. Once again, that argument is a load of crap. The U.S. had a monopoly on manufacturing until late 70's early 80's. Tax rate could have been 99% and it wouldn't have mattered. That's the beauty of monopolies.... When Japan, Europe, and China started to compete, that is when you saw the first dip in out economy under Carter, but he wasn't business oriented enough to see the cause. When Regan began to lower taxes to make us competitive with the rest of the world, you saw the boom of the 80's. Meanwhile, still trying to figure out how you grow the economy from the middle... 2. who get a loan to start the business from rich people Rich folks send their money to Switzerland or the Cayman Islands. Most loans come from banks, where the middle class deposit their money. Rich people send their money all over, US banks, US equities, Foreign equities, precious metals, foreign banks. Please provide evidence that rich people put a majority of their savings overseas. I won't hold my breath because you can't. . I was just using the current "Hero of the GOP", Mitt Romney, as an example. Ah yes, the unsubstantiated accusations. While we are at it, lets talk about whether or not Obama is a U.S. citizen.... Meanwhile, no one has explained how you grow the economy from the middle out... 3. P.S. I'm still waiting for some one to tell me how you grow the economy from the middle out. If the Liberals and Democrats are going to say Ryan's plan is weak on details, fill me in on your own.... PLEASE!!!!!! "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 4. I don't believe business capital investment is taxed as income. Maybe I'm wrong about that. Maybe I misunderstand you, but I think $0 is less than $250k. I'm still trying to understand how you start a business with $0. At some point you have to pony up some cash, either buy investors or loans or out of your own pocket. When that cash changes hands, it will get taxed. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." 5. Do you think that most start-up small businesspeople make more than $250k? And business taxes are not the same as personal income taxes. For small Business, because a lot of start-ups use personal income they can be one and the same. Also, unless your business can tap into the loopholes that are out there, your business taxes can be more than your personal tax. A lot of small business owners I know have lived off of loans while waiting for their business to take off, and then after it does they get taxed out the wazoo. Business tax (U.S. officially highest in the world) payroll tax, income tax, and now healthcare tax. And I won't even get started on licensing fees and permits. So yes, in the course of a year, it's easy to watch more that $250,000 pass through your fingers... And then get taxed... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 6. As kallend was so apt to point out in another thread, there is going to be tax increases for those who make $250,000 or more. I'm not sure how that is going to help small business, unless your business only has like 2 employee's who are being paid minimum wage. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 8. You have completely twisted my question. First, I have always believed that a robust middle class is the sign of a strong economy. So yes, restoring the middle class should be a priority. Second, your article said nothing as to HOW you grow the middle class. It just bloviated on middle class history. Fail, please try again. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 9. Republicans have famously said "I've never gotten a job from a poor person." And this is a statement that I can agree with. Obama and Biden are claiming they are going to grow the economy "from the middle out." So here is your chance to argue your case, cause quite frankly, I don't understand how this is going fix things. Can someone explain to me the mechanisms in this course of action that will fix unemployment? [cue close-up] Persuade me, if you dare [/cue close-up]
  10. "Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts." -- Daniel Patrick Moynihan And with that, it's amazing how many people try to label their opinion as fact... 11. Yup, fact-checker score card: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2012/09/04/Politifact-Lies-About%20Unemployment-Rates-In-States Politifacts, while claiming to be a fact checker organization has shown a terrible slant many a times. I don't trust them any more. You might as well label MSNBC unbiased facts while you are at it. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 12. First, thanks for adding to the intelligent part of the conversation.... The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, also known as the Financial Services Modernization Act Was pushed through by Chris Dodds and Charles Schumer and signed by Bill Clinton. Yes, they needed Sen. Phil Gramm(only republican in the mix) to get it done, but they had to bribe him, and let him put in controls(disclosure agreements), that turned out to not be enough.... You are right, but it still limited banks interactions with securities firms. Until the repeal, banks could not bundle up high risk mortgages and give them to someone else. This effected the CRA. As I said earlier, this, in the end, is why the banks agreed to giving loans to people who couldn't afford it. This was the pay off... Some clarification was probably needed.
  13. Actually, it wasn't widely received. During the elections everyone but Fox news was running 90% positive stories for Presidential Nominee Obama (Fox news, being highly partisan and Anti-Obama, was running 60% favorable coverage) and I don't remember seeing anything about it on Fox... And why does it have to be all about the republican controlled congress? Bill Clinton signed the repeal of regulations that was put before him. Are you now going to let Nancy Pelosi Share some of Bush's blame? But more to the point, I blamed the authors of these bills more than the presidents. Dodd and Schumer spearheaded the repeal of Glass-Steagal and have managed to dodge pretty much all the blame and transfer it to bush. And in 2005 when they saw the writing on the wall, Barny Frank said "No, everything is fine" and kept the ball going, and blamed bush for the collapse also. But now for the first time, I've seen that a president actually participated in the melt down. Do you think Dodd and Schumer would have been able to pass the bill in 1999 without people like Obama laying the ground work through the 90's? You know that in order for the banks to give loans to people that don't qualify, they had to work a deal so banks would have an opportunity to make up the losses, otherwise they would have had a hard time getting people to swallow what was coming. And yes, the intent of the CRA was to remove the color of peoples skin from the equation. If a person can pay the bill, he should be given a loan. After Obama and the rest of kind put forward their lawsuits and the repeal of the Glass-Steagall portion of the CRA, ability to repay the bill was no longer important if you were black. 14. An example of institutional racism against blacks. There are many more. Thanks for bringing this up. Of course that is all you see. That "wooshing" sound was the point missing you. Or do you just not care about the people who's credit is ruined and have been kicked out onto the street because of bad decisions? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 15. Little reported story going around the news: http://dailycaller.com/2012/09/03/with-landmark-lawsuit-barack-obama-pushed-banks-to-give-subprime-loans-to-chicagos-african-americans/ While it might be a right leaning publication, the facts are true. Follow out the links. Just thought you guys should know. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." 16. From a sample size of "just 120 African American voters," I wouldn't expect very accurate results. I'm willing to bet that if you went into Charles Rangels' district, you could poll all the African-Americans there and still get zero support for Romney. 17. Don't forget the 6% body fat. Topless pics of Paul Ryan were at the top of the bing search list for a while.... 18. I do. Like it or not, one cannot attain what Joe Biden has accomplished and NOT be smart. He speaks his mind, and it's one of the things that I find refreshing about him - he doesn't have every word teleprompted. Joe Biden is a person who is very underestimated. While I disagree with him on a host of things, I do not question his intellect. I see the theme you refer to consistently on SC. I always wonder, if the person is a stupid as posters claim they are, how did they attain their position of prominence? It takes more than a big stick to rise to the pinnacle of power. Rock stars and Bill Clinton are notable exceptions. More to the point, in today's political arena you really can be as dumb as a box of rocks. The only thing you really need is Charisma.... 19. Fair enough answer. To bad a certain political party will look down their nose at you and call you an idiot for being associated with the other (not mentioning names, sure you can guess who). 21. Leave it to Kallend to regurgitate left wing lies. http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/21/politics/akin-controversy/index.html The Republicans know that if Akin stays in the race, he will loose. The RNC, needs the senate to remove Harry Reid or a budget will never get passed and Obamacare will never get repealed. This is a wack job sabotaging his party to feed his own ego. And liberals like Kallend will continue to lie out their ass and do everything they can to try to link Romney and Ryan to Akin. Smart, Dishonest as hell, but smart. 23. I even heard a Republican say that on NPR today. As it should. Just to be clear, if all of your income came from investments, and then you took a part of that and invested it into Roth IRA's, college savings plans, etc... You could get your tax rate below 10%. All legal and legit. This is just mud sling to distract from the economy. No one has came up with anything legitimate yet. The left would rather spread lies about his record at Bane Capitol than examine there own record for the last 3 years. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 24. Saw this article this morning: http://now.msn.com/watching-porn-may-improve-weightlifting-performance and it got me thinking, would any one here go to a gym that had porn going up on one of the walls all day long? It's been well documented that watching porn increases testosterone levels, but I just don't know if I would be weird-ed out by it, or if I could walk around with a hard on like that for a couple of hours while wearing shorts... Either way, it would be interesting if someone opened up a gym like that.... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 25. After reading that article, all I can say is "wow". And the people of Nevada still keep voting for him. What does that say about the process and the intelligence of the people of Nevada?
