Need help with accomodation-Perris and Lodi
LongWayToFall replied to antonija's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Try searching www.craigslist.com, I bet you can find something. When are you guys coming out? -
I can't believe you would suggest that to someone who doesn't know what it is! Hahaha! Whatever you do man, don't go to power exchange. Although I think it would certainly qualify for your requirement of being "unique" BTW there is a wind tunnel in the east bay.

Seems like all of the video clips of the crash have been taken offline. Anyone have a link that still works? This is a serious bummer.

I fall fast... Trouble slowing down...
LongWayToFall replied to Tuna-Salad's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No worries man, keep up the practice, it will get better. I'm a big fatty as well, and I'm still learning lots about slowing down (and flying while in a slow fly position). It helps allot if you go out as part of the base, for 2 reasons. First, you aren't diving down, and don't have to slam on the brakes and fly past everyone. Second, once the formation builds and slows down a bit, you are already in it, instead of going low. I have found people that are in a similar speed range to myself, and it makes it much easier as well, the extra speed makes flying easier IMO. You would be surprised at the people who have similar fall rates, they might not be big fatties like us. My friend is 5'8" and a medium build, but rock climbs allot and has lots of muscle which makes him denser, we are a perfect match for speed. (I'm 6' and 225lb) -
This is my first canopy, and I picked it up for 300 bucks. I have to say, I really really like the canopy. The openings are on the brisker side, but not uncomfortable (always consistent, for the 70 jumps I have on it). When I get another canopy, I will be looking for openings as close to this as possible. Always on heading, and open in about 500ft from the pitch. I am loading the canopy quite a bit higher than most people, at about 1.25, and it still performs great. The only thing I will be looking for in a new canopy once I buy one, is a more powerful flare. To date, all of my landings have been stand up, but it takes a single motion flare all at once. The low pack volume is really cool, because you can have a container sized for a 190 and fit the pd210 in it. The f-111 fabric is very easy to handle while packing as well. If you buy one of these canopies and plan on having a higher wing loading like mine, make sure the canopy has a low number of jumps. When I bought it, it had 50-100 jumps, and after the 70 I put on it, I can already tell a slightly decreased flare, so the wing loading has got to be taking a toll on the fabric. Even so, for 300 bucks it got me in the air and I really like the thing. Thumbs up for a great canopy!

Do you ever smoke weed before jumping?
LongWayToFall replied to surfbum5412's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You make a good point, it looks bad on the dz, the sport, and could possibly affect the pilot, and that is reason enough not to do it right there. However, from a purely self risk point of view, I think it is up to you to decide if you want to add extra variables to the equation. Sort of like downsizing to a smaller canopy, things get more challenging. I have a couple friends that I ride motorcycles with, and we usually are riding at very high speed through mountain roads, pretty dangerous. Several times throughout a day's ride, they will pull over and smoke weed. (I no longer smoke, and when I did I never did while riding) Since this is the regular routine for these guys, they have become very, very good at handling themselves. In fact, I would say that I am more comfortable, and confident in their ability while they are high then when they are sober. If a jumper is a complete stoner and is high all the time, they are probably going to be more relaxed and comfortable doing what they do, even in the air. Just keep it safe. You know your limits, don't push them while risking other people's lives. For the record, when I did smoke, I would only do it after a day of jumping. I found to prefer it over drinking considerably, a great way to end a great day. But for me, getting high before jumping would take something away from it. Allowing yourself to be sober and completely receptive makes the skydiving experience that much better. Besides, you get higher that way once you do smoke -
Cooooooooooooooooooompiiiiii! hahaha. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/24/66011373_dab4a297bc.jpg?v=0 This shit rocks. Drink one of the big bottles to your face, and hang on.

my busted shoulder.pt 2
LongWayToFall replied to bennyoleary's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
After I had surgery on my shoulder for a dislocation, it took about 6 months to get it back to normal. At 3 months, you have a long ways to go. I gained most of my rotation back, and for skydiving you don't need as much as a pitcher or something, that's for sure. I say keep up on the PT, and then hit the wind tunnel. -
+1!!! Its easy, and you get to satisfy another hobby of yours, drinking!

I don't even know what you are talking bout. However, any end of the world scheme HAS to be justified, even if only slightly

Tell him not to mess with your crap. If it persists, Nair in the shampoo. Epicac in the liquor.

I'm bout to ride when I get up tomorrow! And hows about sending over some of those percosets overnight?
-
If there was no risk, then everyone would do it. Skydivers would not be as close nit of a group. Everything has risk, you have to weight it against the rewards. The people who jump have decided it was worth the risk, and that is what makes the friendships and rewards in the sport worth what they are. This question is really not even worth asking, sort of like asking if you had the ability to live forever would you do it?

That Ned guy is some of the funniest shit I have heard in a long time.

Man that is totally shitty. I would email paypal and tell them you cannot afford to pay for shipping until the funds clear, so they better send it over. What if you were selling something very valuable, and needed the money right away? That is super fucked. 21 days is allot longer than it takes for a postal money order to get to you. Paypal/ebay also has a very anti gun policy, along with other things I am sure. They also rob you of quite a bit of cash, the ebay fee as well as the paypal fee, and for what? All that money goes to computer programmers who were needed to build the site originally, but now all they do is make stupid ass modifications to ebay that make it much harder to use, because every week things are changed. What they should do is fire half of the programmers, and hire 1 or 2 people with some reasonable intelligence to make better categories within ebay motors and elsewhere, where the categories make no sense at all. Damn.

I heard some advice from a cop friend, that everyone should have a couple beers in the back of their car. If you are driving drunk and crash your car, and know that cops are going to come, start drinking a couple, and have some empties around as well. If you tell the cop that you started drinking after the accident to calm your nerve, then there is no way they can prove you were drunk before the fact. Not that I condone drunk driving. Also, this wouldn't work if you got pulled over!

I'm more of a bike fan myself, planning on high 8s in the quarter all motor once I finish it. The motor will make about 160hp and the bottom end will tolerate 300hp, so I am quite tempted to spray it. What transmission are you using? My friend has a talon that he is putting out good numbers on, 500ish. He went out and got a (stage 3 I think?) Shep trans, so from here on out its just adding power. He also is just finishing building a mighty max pickup truck that has a 2.4 turbo, he is at about 550 on pump with relatively low boost numbers. Fun stuff. Expensive though!

Making a batch of home-made Limoncello liquor
LongWayToFall replied to BillyVance's topic in The Bonfire
Keep the bottle in the freezer, and I prefer to pour it over ice as well. So good..... -
It does sound like a bad cv joint. Makes noise in both directions, and a repeating thump. CVs are not super expensive, and they do go out fairly often. Go get it checked out!

As others have said, what do you want the bike to do? The 09 R1 has a very interesting engine, in that the firing order is not smooth like previous bikes. This was done, because in moto gp they discovered that very high horsepower was hard to get to the ground coming out of turns. This uneven cylinder firing puts a pulse of power to the tire, making it break loose for a second, and allowing enough time for the tire to decelerate, hooking back up again. This back and forth allows the tire to get better traction compared to a continuous, smooth power delivery that sort of burns out all the time. So, what you get it better traction coming out of turns, but a loss of overall power (the exhaust is not is efficient with the uneven pulses) So if you care more about turns, get the R1. All out power, the CBR (although I don't know for a fact that the CBR puts out more hp than the R1) Edit to add: I would encourage you not to buy a brand new bike, better to get one a couple years old and spend the remainder of cash on a older sv650 that you won't mind crashing, and take it to the track as much as possible.

He took it out without asking you? In all seriousness, I might just have to kill that individual if they didn't get me a new bike.

Can you describe the noise better?(grinding, thud, metal on metal sound, etc) Does it do it only when turning one direction or the other? Is it only one bump, or does it make a bunch or bumps in a row? Is there any difference when you are going fast/slow? What about gas/brake? If you can figure out exactly what you need to do to make the noise, it becomes easier to diagnose.
