Dude that ultima GTR is a bad car. Very bad.

Everyone is always talking about the Ariel Atom, but the fact of the mater is that the Lotus super 7 has been around for many years, and is a superior car. Weight is only 1100 lbs or less if using a lighter engine like a hayabusa, and weight distribution is a perfect 50 50. The atom is 1400lbs, and 40 60 front rear. The super 7 chassis was used to built the world's fastest 0-60 car (street legal) and used 2 kawasaki zx-12 engines. It did something crazy like 1.8 seconds or something.

Yeah gotta watch out for diamondback rattlers too, they are very common. You should go to the grand canyon. Its several hours away, but worth it x100

Just put the extra lid back. Who cares. BTW, the gas pumps have to be checked periodically by the state to ensure they are delivering the proper amount of gas. Smoke some pot or down a couple valium, you need to chill out dood!

SCENARIO: You are traped in a 3x3x3 Steel Box...
LongWayToFall replied to Mazz's topic in The Bonfire
Unwrap stick of dynamite, and take the nitroglycerin/other compound (such as sawdust, etc) compound which is like puddy, and pack around the lock. light fuse, hold steel plate over hole to protect. Done! Or you could always gut yourself. -
Your poll is rigged. I love almost all performance cars, road cars and drag both. BTW, porsche are only a status symbol, name any porsche and you could build a faster car for less money guaranteed. If I had to have a road car, I would home build a lotus super seven. Drag, it would probably be an old Nova but only because I love v-8s. If I was going cheap it would be a 5.0 ford mustang with lots of nitrous. Check out this video about the caterham 7: http://video.google.com/videosearch?hl=en&q=super%207&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wv#q=lotus+super+7&hl=en&emb=0

Well, I bought the canopy before the rig, so it worked out. Here is a downsizing progression that works out pretty well: Jumper weight, 185lbs, 210 out the door. 210 PD 9 Cell (F111): 1.0:1 wing loading. ZP 190: 1.1 wing loading ZP 170: 1.23 wing loading ZP 150: 1.4 wing loading This is all with the same container. Again, the ZP fabric is going to last allot longer, but you need new lines about every 500 jumps. The PD 9 cell I got was only 300 bucks, and almost new. Once it hits 500 jumps, it will not be worth another line set, and at that point is going to be trash anyways. The money I saved on the main got me double handfuls of jump tickets, and I certainly don't regret doing it.

I wonder how many bugs have "gotten out" at 3000ft??

HELP! Please help me find a place :(
LongWayToFall replied to clustermagnet's topic in Events & Places to Jump
There are several locations in the bay area that are excellent for kite boarding, and we have a handful of dzs as well. Just throwing it out there! http://www.destinationkiteboarding.com/bay-area-kiteboarding.html -
Camelback mountain is surrounded by phoenix, an odd place for a mountain but a kick ass view on the top. Short hike but steep. Maybe 1 hour each way. Do it! http://www.gistwireless.com/camelback-mountain-phoenix-arizona.jpg

Ok, if they are all the same price, find a ragged out saber with a reasonably fresh line set, it'll last you longer. Happy?
-
Never the same bang for your buck? I doubt that. I bought my 210 pd 9 cell for 300 bucks, almost brand new. The pack volume allowed me to put it into a container sized for a 190, so in time if I want, I could downsize all the way to a 150, which will last me many many jumps and many years. The canopy opens and flies great, it gets me back to the dz no problem (glide angle is similar to a 7 cell) and the only thing lacking is the flare, which is still adequate. Now that I think about it, I have never had a non stand up landing. A saber one with a similarly fresh line set (but lots more jumps) is going to be at least double the cost, I was looking at one with 1200 jumps and a 50 jump old lineset for 600 bucks, and an 800 jump with new lines for 800 bucks. The best part about the canopy though, is that it is super easy to pack!!!! It might not be a great canopy, but I love it, and it got me into the air cheap. The openings are always consistent and on heading, and it hasn't malfunctioned on me yet. So go ahead and knock my canopy, but it won't change the fact that it saved me money and I'll probably be hanging onto it for a second rig. P.S. the resale value doesn't matter as much either, at half the price I only lose 150 bucks. Ordering a brand new canopy and then selling it after 100-200 jumps is a bigger hit than that.

Consistently Fast opening modern canopies- Your list
LongWayToFall replied to LongWayToFall's topic in Gear and Rigging
Yeah I'm trying to shy away from the saber because of the inconsistent openings, but if they still open in a timely fashion with a pocket slider I might consider one. -

LongWayToFall replied to LongWayToFall's topic in Gear and Rigging
If you look at a graph of the g forces over opening, they aren't constant though. When the slider is on its way down the lines is the highest g forces, while the "snivel" when the slider is up is pretty mild. I've had openings where it was super smooth then all of a sudden CRACK the slider is down. I would think the ideal opening would be one where the G forces are similar throughout the whole opening. The openings on that pulse look nice! Just a wee bit slower than my PD 9cell, but certainly acceptable. The flares however, look the same as my canopy as well, and that is no compliment!! I wonder why they would compare them to the katana, which obviously has a much greater flaring power? It would seem the katana is better at transitioning it's energy into forward movement, where the pulse is putting the energy into the recovery arc and swinging the jumper forward. Both are nice landings, but I'd rather have a mini swoop of sorts. -

The pilot sounds like a good canopy, however most people are saying the openings are pretty snively, and the flares are a little on the weaker side. Maybe buy one and put a mesh slider on it?? Just kidding! -
Consistently Fast opening modern canopies- Your list
LongWayToFall replied to LongWayToFall's topic in Gear and Rigging
Consistency is mainly what I am looking for, and then I can start to modify the pack job from there. For instance, I have been told that the spectre can tolerate just about any pack job and it still opens really slow. Where as, my pd 9 cell, will never be a slow opener because I have to roll the nose a bunch, the tail, make sure the slider is pulled forward, etc and it still is a fast opening. I am really comfortable with it though, I am not scared of a slammer. I think I would enjoy a saber, however the fact that it does not open consistently worries me, I would have to get a pocket slider to prevent the occasional slammer and now I am back to slow openings. The reason I am looking for a faster opening canopy, is because it is fun to track a little longer on a jump, and be under a stable canopy doing your control check while others are still slider up. Right now with my pd, if the slider isn't down in maybe 3 seconds, I'm going to get rid of it, because I know just how it should be opening, and it is consistent. On some of my old rental gear, I would be spending time looking at my altimeter, and then back up at the canopy, back and forth, waiting for my cutaway altitude. This is no fun! I think as long as you are not getting hurt, a fast opening is safer and gives you more time to deal with stuff. I promise I won't be doing any low pull contests! -

A friend of mine jumps a safire 2 at just a slightly higher wing loading than mine, and it is fun to track a little bit longer than him, and still be under a canopy while he is passing me with his slider still up. Mamba huh? I'll check it out Edit to add, seems like the mamba is quite an advanced canopy!! Good to know for the future, but for the time being I am only looking for a lightly elliptical or square. -
Consistently Fast opening modern canopies- Your list
LongWayToFall replied to LongWayToFall's topic in Gear and Rigging
The canopy I just now is a F111 PD210, and I love it. The openings are rather fast, I would say about 400-500ft or so, and I really enjoy it actually. When I was on rental gear, There was nothing I hated more than a 1000ft opening. So, what canopies out there open fast like what I am used to? I have jumped a Saber2 210, and its openings were on the brisker side as well, but lots of people tell me that they have ones that are slow openers. I am only interested in modern 9 cell ZP canopies, and ones that are consistent as well. Thanks everyone! -
I love my pd210. It has the same volume as a zp190. I got it cheap too, almost new for 300 bucks. Its a sweet deal! Don't load it more than 1.2:1 though

Very Nice!

anyone ever heard of this? motorcycle license related!
LongWayToFall replied to floridadiver81's topic in The Bonfire
Hahaha. Reminds me of my last speeding ticket that got my license suspended for 30 days. He asked if I drove there, and I said yes, and told him I didn't plan on losing my court case. He was cool though and said to "use my best judgment" about weather to call a ride or not. Considering my judgment was pretty shot to get me into court on a 120mph speeding ticket, you can guess what I did.
