  1. Yeah I forgot the smiley. It sure is an interesting looking canopy! Is a phantom 28' going to be too fast for my beer calorie laden body? Something about conventional gear is cool looking. I would rather go the whole 9 yards and do that, but if need be I'll be happy with any round jump. *starts searching for groovy football helmet*
  2. This is true. Although if you are talking about the tobacco, I used to smoke a pack a day of cigs, but quite awhile ago, and now just smoke hookah once every couple days. I like it allot more! I have been drinking my ass off though.......
  3. +1. My rig is the most valuable single item I own.
  4. I'll be putting on my half baked shirt that says "Do I look like someone who would smoke marijuana?" and smoking hookah. Tobacco hookah that is. Today is 1 year since I last smoked weed!! The money I saved went to jumping so try not to talk too much crap ha!
  5. My friend showed me his for the first time the other day, that is one HUGE paper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I guess as you pointed out, it all boils down to probabilities. I'll bet though that the probability of an AAD not working even after 40 years is going to be .001%. Circuit boards have been around a long time, they have the technology down pretty well. Same with explosives. It would be interesting to read some military specs regarding lifespans
  7. Brett Stone is attempting to Roll the biggest joint ever. Please wish him luck with this incredible feat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAnOVcRVO2g&feature=related And here it is, after being stolen and sparked up at a local Cypress Hill concert. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSQWyMpcb14 Happy 420
  8. Are we allowed to bust out windows to prevent the door from taking out the wing? What about rappelling equipment to get behind the airplane before releasing, so as not to make contact with the empennage or leading edge of the wing?
  9. You are lucky you bailed. The video doesn't even show the impact. WEAK!
  10. You do not think that your 2 reasons for failure could not be overcome? I know for a fact that many many electrical components are 30-40-50-60 years old and function fine, even though they have solder joints. If the self test of the unit passes, the chance of the solder joints breaking between the self test and firing of the unit in an emergency are slim. As far as the explosives go, many are very stable over long periods. I am curious as to the exact composition used in an AAD, although I would bet it is something similar to lead azide, which is used in car air bags. Air bags have to be good for a long time, they are a life saving device as well. I have heard of old ww2 torpedos and mines still killing people, they are allot older than 20 years. I think that vigil has good reason to certify their unit to be operational for 20 years. Its not a "lets see what happens" crap shoot.
  11. And you think now is a good time to give out more money why? Because it is the current trend?
  12. Yeah I figured, just letting people know how sketchy those piston twins are. God I love twin otters, I feel so safe in them.
  13. Yeah, but he was at low altitude, over a residential area, no areas to land. He clipped the top of a telephone pole and that is what made him go in. He also wasn't an average pilot, his job was ferrying planes long distance from china and the middle east etc. He had more hours in caravans and otters than most would dream of. But yeah, if he went in because of that engine that was lost, then there is no way a regular pilot would have been able to do any better, especially fully loaded. Luckily most dzs are going to have runways that are not in packed residential areas with no outs.
  14. Yeah that is going to be a problem, I just lost 15lbs and that only brought me down to 220lbs! Did you guys discover beer around the same time as squares? I certainly agree that the equipment of today was build by the blood of the ones who came before me, maybe that is why people think it is strange that I would want to jump gear that is not as safe. I almost picture it like working/driving an old car from the 50s. Things were different back then, and when you are cruising around you just feel like you are back in time. I will say though, that most people agree classic cars are cool, but the same cannot be said about "classic" gear. I suppose that skydiving is about the people, and the act of being in freefall, more than the tools you use to get you there. Classic cars are ONLY about the equipment. Man I love this sport. So yeah, I just want to pay a little homage to the ones who came before me, and maybe learn a thing or 2 while I am at it. By the way, someone HAS to loan me one of those white football helmets you guys used to wear.
  15. About jumping a round. It seems the general consensus from those that used to jump them in the olden days is that I am completely retarted. All my friends think I am strange as well. So, the question is, is it worth it to jump some old ass gear and risk busted ankles, out landings, hard openings, the time to train for a front mount, etc etc, all the while taking a hit in the I.Q. department from the regulars?
  16. That is for sure. My dad's good friend died recently when he crashed a Piper Navajo out in Las Vegas, after loosing an engine after takeoff. The Navajo is similar to the 401, in that they both use dual piston engines. He was an outstanding pilot, so if he went in from loosing an engine after takeoff, I don't have much hope for a fully loaded jump plane. Anyways, bsbd.
  17. African Body Armor FAIL: http://www.fmft.net/African%20infantryman%20of%20the%20year%20Liberian%20militias%20African%20militias%20AK%2047%201.JPG
  18. I have the parts kit for an underfolding yugo ak, and to meet the california length requirement of 30 inches, I need to build a muzzle brake somewhere around 4-5 inches. Any tips for 1. most effective reduction in recoil and muzzle reduction and most importantly 2. making it such that it cannot be defined as a flash hider? My plan was to take the original threaded bit that protects the muzzle threads and weld a tube over it, while I am at it I might as well drill a couple holes as well right? P.S. Cool job!
  19. How bad will that slow slugs down? I was thinking along the lines of something like this: http://www.saiga-12.com/proddetail.asp?prod=S12-PolyChoke-II
  20. What length barrel do you have, btw? Is it threaded?
  21. Sweet link, makes it really simple. It is important to know that it is only illegal to assemble a non sporting rifle that is non 922r compliant, it is perfectly legal to own one. This means that if you buy a saiga 12 from your friend, a dealer, whoever, and it does not meet the parts count, it is not your problem. So about all of the foreign guns, if you can get your hands on what you want, you are fine. It is important to know also, that just about never has someone been convicted solely on 922r non compliance, it almost always is in addition to other crimes such as armed robbery etc etc.
  22. So the craft has to be unmodified? You could always strap one of these to just about anything. http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/4736/686ce9.jpg
