What's your stupidest Xmas gift this year?

Hahaha! Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe......... The box is the greatest ever though. It says "You can wear it anywhere!" and has a picture of a guy in the middle of the forest fly fishing a small stream. REALLY??? hahahaha! -
Thank you for that pdf! I have already been reading it, it is very helpful! And thanks to Scooby for all the great PMs and emails. I can't wait for warmer weather to get in some CRW jumps. I have had a VERY experienced local CRW jumper offer to take me on some jumps in the springtime, I can't wait! So when is the next world record happening?? Maybe if I get good enough in time....

Well obviously the increased speed is caused by the steeper angle of the canopy, which is then converted into lift when you release it. The reason why this was unpredictable in my eyes, was that it didn't prove to be a good way to loose altitude permanently, you almost gain all of it back afterwards, as well as having a sort of oscillation between speed, altitude, and back again. The time I spent doing it was pretty minimal though, maybe releasing the risers more gradually is more effective? Looking forward to my next jump so I can practice a bit more!

Hahaha! Seriously, the math didn't quite add up with that one.......

Gear setup/checks to avoid horseshoe/pc in tow
LongWayToFall replied to t2.3aero's topic in Gear and Rigging
Worrying about things like trying to pull your main pin with your hand while in freefall are going to get you into trouble. I am sure your instructor will show you a fine way of packing, just pay attention. There are only a couple things that MUST be done in a packjob, the rest can actually be pretty sloppy and not be "dangerous" although you might have a higher likelihood of a malfunction. Ask your instructor to show you how to inspect the closing loop tension, this is probably the number one thing to prevent a horseshoe. Bridle routing is more of a container design issue, rather than packing. (You can route it like shit but if you just do it like the manual says you are fine) Don't worry about pull vs throw out, and don't worry about collapsible PCs, they will show you how to do it. There is a small window that tells you if it is cocked. Anyways, don't sweat it, start packing and when you get it down it will be easier to ask questions or read things online and understand what they are saying. -
Disconnecting it gives you more options in a water landing. If you are being dragged under, cutting away may be much easier than getting out of your harness (which btw, acts like a flotation device because of the air in your reserve) and you don't want to pop the reserve pin while you are thrashing around with fabric.... Weather or not you cutaway above the water's surface is another issue. (And I agree with you, I was taught to wait until your feet touch the water)

If someone is breaking into your home, shoot first ask questions later....... That is my plan anyways. If the guy wasn't obviously armed you might have an issue though, but how can they prove he didn't appear to be pulling up a weapon? FYI this is probably headed to speakers corner

All good until you loose the brakes going down a big hill, and the kegs go off like bombs when they rupture..... hahaha

Man, I have 2 interesting drive thru stories. 1st, I was at a taco bell about 10 minutes before closing. I pull up, someone on the speaker asks my order, so I tell em what I want. A very long pause later the voice once again asks what I want. At this point I am pretty pissed, and repeat my order. THE VOICE COMES ON AGAIN AND ASKS WHAT I WANT. At this point I am fucking irate, and start cussing them out, and repeat my order. No response. At this point the light for the window turns off, as they are now closed. I pull up to the window and start screaming at this retard fuckers, but they are hiding. I should have waited in the parking lot for em. Fuck that place. 2nd Story, much shorter. My friends dad is driving a super long truck through the drivethru, and after placing his order, he finds out that he cannot make the turn that is ahead. After briefly trying to make the large line of cars behind him back up to no avail, he says fuck it, shuts the truck off, and goes inside to get his food, where he subsequently eats his entire meal while everyone outside goes ape trying to get organized enough to back out.

I had a similar situation with my shoulder (not jumping though) and it kept becoming easier and easier to pop out. First time was a dirt bike crash, second was throwing a baseball...... It will get worse unless you do major exercises, and even then it will be about the same. Get the surgery. It was the best thing I ever did. You will be down for 6 months, but time will pass quickly, especially in the winter. Do it now, and you will be back this summer! For the record, I recovered more mobility than my doctor predicted, I am back to 100% range. Do your physical therapy!!!!!!!! Nice work on the landing, hopefully you will be healed up and back in the sky soon.

You can find the info online if you search, but it goes something like this: Turn the sound off. Throw the plane directly upwards. The game will freeze for 30-60 seconds, and when it unfreezes you will be moving forward but not going up or down. I never got it to work after trying a few times, it did freeze but never unfroze.

It seems like you are trying to save a few bucks. I would seriously consider buying a well used canopy (possibly f111, but if you go this route, make sure it is almost new), a used reserve, and a not-so freefly friendly rig (dolphin, older vector, etc etc). Take the money you saved and buy a bunch of jumps, and once you are a bit more experienced, you can decide if you would rather put your money into a newer canopy (possibly downsizing, you may very well be ready to go down a size from 1:1 after 100-200 jumps) or into a newer freefly friendly rig. Or maybe both at the same time. Frankly, you won't really know what you wanna do/buy until a bit later, there is no point to spending a bunch of funds on something when you might not need it (you love belly flying and never need the $3k super duper rig on your back) or you end up wanting to downsize quicker than you think, and you take a huge hit selling your bought-new canopy. Good luck finding your gear! I had lots of fun buying all of my stuff, and got really drunk the day I had my rig completely assembled sitting in my living room

You found that hack too huh?

Glad somebody liked it! My furthest was just a hair over 3000. It is fun to go to super high altitude too.

Today my jumping buddy and I decided it might be fun to do a full altitude hop and pop for the last jump of the day, and see if we couldn't stay close to each other under canopy. We talked to the DZO and he thought it would be fine to bump end cells, but not much more. Well, just staying relative was a challenge, but we did bump end cells once! I know this is practically nothing compared to making docks and whatnot, but it was still a feeling of acomplishment for my friend and I. I learned allot about what inputs do what, which will help next time. Brakes make you go upwards as well as slow you down, risers are great for going up without slowing down. Fronts were sort of unpredictable, they dropped you down and sped you up, but when you released them you tended to pop back up. Well, my friend and I would love to keep working on this sort of stuff, it is lots of fun. Is it possible for us to keep working with just the 2 of us, to the point of making docks? Also, we are both on canopies with microline, is this going to be a big problem if we only want to do crew occasionally? The beer tastes great tonight! P.S. We exited into ice at 12k and my hands have never been so cold my entire life, but it was still a total blast.

Damn you.
