That's funny! I am in the very small town of Lefor, which is about 15 minutes away from Dickinson. If I get a chance tomorrow maybe I will go take a look at that church. Man, some of you guys are much braver than me! Today it got up to 30 degrees, even 10 degrees above zero is a giant difference. 30 was almost tropical! I used to live in Phoenix, and on some of the hottest days our thermostat was set at 80f, and coming inside felt like entering a meat locker!!! When I went to Miami for the first time a few months back it was 100f and 100% humidity, and that is the most god awful feeling ever. I am not envious of you Florida folk. It is all a matter of perspective, I suppose. Bill- I think you take the cake for cold conditions! That does sound fun though. I bet if your altimeter broke you would be in trouble, solid white ground cannot be easy for determining your altitude visually.

Yes sorry, I meant racial profiling. For what it is worth, on wednesday, I WAS selected to go through the body scanner. It seemed about 1/2 to 1/3 of people were asked to go through it. I DID deny the scanner, and was patted down. It took about 3-4 minutes, and wasn't all that bad. The guy was very clear with what he was going to do before he did it, and maintained a professional attitude. Overall it was not as bad as I thought, and my balls were not finagled. Also, I didn't see any other person opt out of the scan.

Living in the Bay Area, I used to think that 32f was pretty damn cold. Right now I am in North Dakota, and experienced -12f, with 20+ mph winds. This is COLD!!! 1. Any exposed skin is pain, especially eye balls. 2. Breathing through the nose results in my boogers freezing and poking the inside of my nose (ouch!) 3. Breathing through the mouth causes the water in my breath to freeze on my mustache, making icicles. No joke. What is the coldest weather you have been in????

Profiling is bringing us down to the same level of scum that the fuckers who caused all this shit are. The FACT is, that someone who was so inclined, could hide a fairly large object in their ass, or have it surgically implanted. Ceramic knives and guns, non metallic explosives complete with primaries and a trigger mechanism (all non metallic), a device which could burn and create a poisonous gas which could kill all on board. All of these things could fit in someone's ass. THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO!! I say stick with the old metal detector wands and light pat downs. It has worked for a long time. The 911 terrorists used what, some tiny ass knives to do what they did? The chances of 911 happening again are almost non existent. People today would go ballistic and stop at nothing to take the fuckers down, rather than think they just wanted some ransom. How many balls do these poor TSA scanners have to look at to stop just one attack? I doubt they will ever stop one with the new machines. Many balls divided by zero attacks stopped=Infinity balls looked at. Infinity Balls!!!!!!! Those sorry fuckers. For this reason, when I get to the airport tomorrow I am going to refuse a body scanner if asked to do one.

I always thought guinness used some patent malt! My oatmeal stout is going into bottles tomorrow, no acid malt but it was the same hop schedule. Should be goooood. Whats up with the 31.2 vs 29.6 IBUs? Pre-Post starter pitch?

Yeah, open surgery HUUUUURTS. Most important advice on here: Have someone wake you up to take your pain meds. This is worth repeating!!!

Who is being sarcastic?

22oz glass filled with Green Flash Imperial IPA on my right, a slice of cosco take and bake pizza on the left. My tactic: Hit alien in the face with pizza, delaying him long enough to chug the beer. Even in death, I refuse to waste a beer as delicious as this one.

Good, don't let that happen again. I think as a token of understanding, you should buy Pete some tunnel time. Maybe if he is kind enough, he could give you a little coaching. Safety procedure instruction is not the only thing Pete is good at.

Tips On Packing A Fairly New Canopy
LongWayToFall replied to skycamefalling's topic in Gear and Rigging
Well, in the small handful of flatpacks I have done, it still gets S folded up basically the same way. It IS an option though, his canopy should have packing tabs (mine does). -
Yeah now that I recall, waking up in the middle of the night when all the pain killers had worn off, was just about the most pain I have felt, ever. Worse than my broken arm, sprained stuff, etc. Worse than my ankle surgery. Block or not, be SURE to wake up and take some pain killers throughout the night!!!!!!!!
-
Why? The impression I had was that it made the next few hours after the surgery less painful, but didn't change much else.
-
I declined the nerve block, but even if they would have done it, it would still have been a general anesthesia. Are you sure it wouldn't be general? The block is done while you are awake, but I doubt the procedure will be. Getting shoulder surgery for the exact reason you stated is the best thing I ever did. As has been stated, do the time. DO THE THERAPY. Don't just say you did it. You won't jump for probably 8 months, but it could be much worse. Do you really want your arm dislocating in freefall?

Tips On Packing A Fairly New Canopy
LongWayToFall replied to skycamefalling's topic in Gear and Rigging
Never thought of that. Good point! The few times that I did mess around with the psycho, sure enough it uncocked itself. This worries me! haha. -
Nay, overall I would rate you as an unkind, mean spirited harbinger of disinformation. It is more than obvious that Pete is correct, and your continuing denial of this simply shows your childlike attitude. Furthermore, I would like to extend my gratitude to Pete, for his genuine and enduring pursuit of educating the general skydiving populace. All of you should be ashamed of yourselves for your harsh words against this prophet of proper emergency protocol.

Just have a belly container up front!

DGIT?

I also disagree, although I have limited experience to make that statement. My jumping partner has a Saffire 2, at the same loading as my sabre2 (1.3). I always get longer distances on landing than him, but this may be attributed to the fact that the angle of attack is steeper on my canopy than his (my decent rate is greater). I have also heard that the Sabre2 has a long recovery arc, which is good for swoopers. My flare is also more powerful. Regardless, I love my canopy, and I know plenty of people who have used them from student status all the way down to very high wing loadings, before finally making the switch to a crossbraced canopy.

Actually, it only really takes a 2nd grade education. Did you read ANY of the responses directed to you, regarding your incorrect opinion of EPs?

Tips On Packing A Fairly New Canopy
LongWayToFall replied to skycamefalling's topic in Gear and Rigging
I asked the same exact question, I have the same canopy. PD says they do not use this method, but I have read several posts on this site stating that it works fine, even without an extended bridle. Most agree though that if you plan to use the method, that an extension is a good idea. If you make sure to re-cock the pilot chute after it is in the bag, it should be ok. The method of making your last S fold in the bag, works well, but as others have said it is very possible for the tail to begin to unwrap and the slider get loose (You cannot keep tension on the pack job after you start folding it and place it partway into the bag). After personally looking at both the psycho pack, and having used the split S fold method up until recently, I am going to try to keep getting better with just the standard pro pack. It can be a mother fucker, but done properly, I think it is the cleanest, and simplest way of packing. If you can, pack in front of your computer, and have someone pause and play the packing videos, and do EXACTLY what the guy in the video is doing, and see how it goes. Good luck!!!!!!!!!! -

Disadvantages 1: VERY prone to uncocking the pilot chute. 2. It is possible for the roll to be yanked by the bridle before it is unrolled, causing major line twists. 1 more advantage though, is the ability to dress the slider on the ground, which is handy. In a normal pro pack the tail is tight around the lines preventing an easy way of doing it.
