I haven't refused to management as much as convinced the student it was not in their best interest for reasons of intoxication, injured back/neck, physical affirmities, etc. When I told the DZO/M's why they were leaving; they were supportive. What Stratostar said, I can share from experience. Let's just say things went very bad from the time the decision was made until my buds fished me out. Skydiving is much safer. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

Look, instead of driving your palms to sweaty about skydiving, why don't you hit the wind tunnel for awhile and get desensitized a little bit. It'll give you time to re-consider, skills and confidence to advance should you decide to come back, and no pressure to jump till you think it's right for you. Good luck. Show up at the Perris wind tunnel and say, " I am a returning student. I had 7 AFF jumps and last jumped in 1993. I am interested in training to complete the AFF course. What should I practice and for how many minutes? Is there special AFF instruction or lessons here that can help me achieve that goal?" Good luck and have fun. Just got done watching it this morning. I think it started out less than altruistic, but you couldn't help but notice he got caught up in the troops and felt as though he failed them. When the Lt. Col. presented him with the flag and certificate, he appeared remorseful and humbled. In the past, he's blamed the team, this time he appeared to blame himself. Not something I can say I've ever seen out of him before. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

We start class on Thursday nights for four hours (including breaks), assign perfromance -oriented homework and start the finish up Saturday morning with the students demonstrating; 1) knoweldge of the gear, 2) exit procedure, 3) Dive Flow, 4) Clear Alls, and 5) Emergency procedures again (takes 30 minutes). Next blocks of instruction... We're usually done by 10:00AM and those that we "feel" need some additional training - get it. IMO - teaching someone to skydive once is easy. Teaching them to feel more than lucky after their first skydive requires the time and ability to teach confidence so they will return. On that note, if we had a wind tunnel in the area, I would incorporate a successful Cat A dive in the tunnel as part of the training before exiting an A/C (which would add time). I don't use a factor of time for the FJC. We don't move on to the next block of instruction until they ALL get it. IMO, there is no cookie cutter off-the-shelf, three, four or six hour class. But then again, I teach at a Cessna DZ. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

You could re-surface the "Whatever happened to...? thread. You may know that by adding to the last part of the thread; it will come back to the top of the forum. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1562726;search_string=What%20ever%20happened%20to;#1562726 Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

So, I need to stop at the local convience store for some stuff and stop at their ATM machine first to get some cash. I walk thru the store and get some stuff and go up to pay for it. Hand the girl a $20.00 and she gets out the pen and swipes the the twenty and tells me it's counterfeit. I said, "Well, I just got the money out of your machine." and hand her another $20.00 bill. She swipes the second twenty with her magic pen and tells me; it too is counterfeit. I tell her, "Well, I guess you need to call the Secret Service cause I got that one out of your machine too." Her co-worker leans over and says, "Ya know, if you quit using the Sharpie, they might be alright." Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
