  1. I watched a video this morning of a Tornado in Nebraska. Most tornadoes occur in May & June. 50 years ago; Oklahoma was known as Tornado alley since most occured here. Over that time I've noticed the geographic expansion across several states. Don't know if anyone has ever seen an F3-5 tornado in person. I've seen two F5s each 1/2 mile wide - it was no less than intimidating. This expanding footprint, increased number & frequency of high F tornados, should cause us concern. https://www.accuweather.com/en/severe-weather/tornado-alley-has-been-expanding-over-the-past-50-years-new-study-finds/1657774

OK. Fortune News said Dostyevsky said it. The quote still matters. https://lareviewofbooks.org/article/dostoyevsky-misprisioned-the-house-of-the-dead-and-american-prison-literature/

No argument on any of your points. We've had this discussion about the _right_ approach. I just watched the news this morning and saw the silliness in California, beat downs here and there, continuous violations of the constitituion by law enforcement (no surprise) and just got my pissed off for the day and wanted to vent. We see pics of soldiers in foreign countries giving children water, food, etc. while here we see children getting scared by those to serve and protect and it just pisses me off. /rant II

So, I _think_ we're all pretty much of a like mind when it comes to what's been happening with the deportation situation. Rolling up on someone because they're brown and demanding papers until it escalates to a beat down. ICE/CBP/Police take an oath to uphold the constitution not unlike soldiers. Soldiers are taught to refuse an illegal order. Unfortunately, less senior police/soldiers get the class, but become leary of its execution. Think Abu Ghraib. I blame the leadership. Yesterday - I realize I'm on the opposite side of most of you when it comes to Illegal entry, but there is a right way and a wrong way to do something. We had to have court intervention to do the right thing. There is a constitution and a code of federal regulations for a reason. There have been so many errors in the past 20 years. Not developing more points of entry, not securing the borders, no vetting process, etc. etc. But, none of it matters if we as a nation do not do things the right way until we are here. “A society should be judged not by how it treats its outstanding citizens but by how it treats its criminals.” ~Fyodor Dostoyevsky /rant.

Ummmm . . . In the early 18th century, fruitcake was outlawed entirely throughout Continental Europe. These cakes were considered as “sinfully rich.” : ) Have a better day, Mark.
  6. Early 70s. Every Friday night. Followed by cinnamon toast for dessert. Mom was the queen of casseroles. I think she invented Hamburger Helper. :)
  7. Disaster Response experience mode: That area is called flooding alley. The Guadalupe River flooded in nearly every decade of the 20th century. Ten people – teens attending a summer camp in Comfort – died in 1987 during a flash flood when their school bus drove into water. A flood in 1998 was the deadliest in the area up until that point, killing 12 people. https://www.tpr.org/news/2025-07-06/texas-flash-flood-alley-kerrville Lived in Houston back in the day - take a look at the attachment for their flood history. While stationed at Ft. Hood, we had one river area heavily posted with "Do not cross during Flash floods." Under that sign was a "Number of Deaths This Year: XX" When I left it was 55. 1. If you're going to lay blame, it is at the feet of each Governor 2. People forget until the next one, then there's another round of Thoughts & Prayers. We will bank money to respond to a disaster; but do shit to prevent it. Every. fucking. year. And, children die for that lack of prevention each year. history-timeline2022.pdf
  8. Morning, Nigel. It's already being done with the Independent Party. https://news.gallup.com/poll/548459/independent-party-tied-high-democratic-new-low.aspx He should have stuck to building the future and stayed out of politics. I fear he will wind up on the Howard Hughes path.
  9. Morning, Phil. For me - pro-growth includes both of these. Lord Meynard Keynes taught FDR to keep money moving around - in all areas.

Let me expand on this. Wes is "a" name. One that resonates with me, but I agree with your assessment. Sen Kelly is another. What the Democrats need is another "Clinton" type to take the stage, play his saxaphone and fuse the democratic party together again.
  11. That is one of the best articles I've read in awhile. I agree with Joe on the AOC/Bernie fusion. For me; they make good talking points, but their following is more one of detractors than the focus needed. "The Atlantic’s Derek Thompson, which proposes a progressive political program based on lower-regulation, pro-growth policies as a spark for renewed economic growth." This in my opinion should be the focus.

I've read both posts and think it's a good scope document. At some point, the democrats will have to in short order - put up a name, so people start learning about their platforms. As usual; I don't agree with all of someone's positions, but as long as I can get around most. Wes has the educational background, understands what going to war means, so would have some pause, and somehow his gun legislation has passed muster where other states can't. At some point, names are going to have to be floated. They may fall by the wayside between now and 2028; but the direction would be noted.
  14. Sorry, I passed over this - was a busy week. Not sure I understand why I'm being called out, but Tri and Jerry get a pass.

What the fuck does this mean.
  16. Exactly what I did. Don't just hand me some 20 - 40 minute video to watch without laying out the context of what to expect in a summary statement. I ain't watching shit just cause you say so. And, then you want to sound all harvardish like you'd dropped the solution to The Riemann Hypothesis, turned your nose up and snorted at my seemingly lack of knowledge. Well, pretty boy, Dobelli is a hack.

Over the past couple/three weeks you have prescribed a new direction for the Democratic party - what's your thoughts?

Is there a point at which you might think "I should have voted for Harris in order to avoid what's happening?" No. But I do think that if the Democrats put up somebody of fortitude in the next election. I will vote for them.

Plain and simple - I don't understand how the Supreme Court just shit on the 14th amendment.
  20. Apologies if you think or I communicated that. My point was about bigotry. Let's say that the message on here has mostly been Christians are bad and that has not been my experience. There are bad and manipulative ones - but most are good people.
  21. Thank you for the compliment. And, I from you. Just for clarity - I have aligned myself mostly with Spinoza. I do not believe in religion. Myself and a couple of others on here were raised Catholic. While being confirmed; I had to kneel and kiss the Bishop's ring. Something in me found that repulsive and that was the end of my journey with them. What I seem unable to convey is having disdain for any group of people as a matter of their belonging/belief/skin color/etc. is wrong. I choose to evaluate the individual. You and I have traveled the world. There are more good people in any society/culture/religion than bad. For me; saying that Christianity is bad isn't right. Bill has acknowleged his Christianity - to say Christianity is bad is to say Bill is bad. To say, blacks or hispanics are bad is to say those that pulled my ass out of the shit are bad. Not sure if I'm making my point, but that's where I'm at.
  22. Afternoon, Jerry. I've modified the law somewhat. Bigotry is reasons for hating a group; such as nation of origin, religion, disability, gender identity, refugee status, and various combinations of all of these and more including Dropzones. :)
