    Out of Commission

Aw, Tee, that sucks! Your car can be repaired/replaced, but the damage to YOU - I sure hope you'll be OK. I guess we won't get to meet in Kamloops now after all... Get well soon! Frank
  2. Ya ya ya - *Lady F* ... I like it!!! Tracy, can we call you "Lady F" (if you'll have us back)?
  3. No, Merrick, I haven't either. Tracy - were sorrryyyyyy - come back and talk to us... tell me more about your skysurfing - how did you get started with so few jumps?
  4. Have you ever been over to rec.skydiving??? Anyway, or course everyone is entitled to their opinion... personally, I found this thread rather amusing, and think that is is all good clean fun! Lady FFF gave up the previously unclaimed handle she first chose and will now choose a new one. She said she had been reading the threads for a while, so she knows were NOT a bunch of assholes (well she should know at least I'm not ). No harm intended, no harm done... btw, did ya notice how Pammi chimed in with Merrick to gang up on us?!? Now THAT'S bullying!!! (just kidding, guys, just kidding!!!) Frank (another triple F, really: Frank Flys Fast)

    Proud!

We jump at the "Ultimate High Parachute Centre" in Victoria. The season has no start or finish - we jump year-round! Frank

    Proud!

Well, today I am proud of some of the senior jumpers at my DZ. Last spring (or was it early summer?) 3 of them did an unusual demo jump. A local movie theatre was opening "Mission Impossible 2", and was looking for a "hot" premiere. Our boys landed on the roof of the theatre as pyro-tecnics fired off, and some rapellers climbed down the side of the building. There was quite a crowd of people outside, as there was some radio promotion... I was on the roof, shooting video (for our newscast). Well as it turns out, the theater received some theatre-type award from Paramount for having the "best movie premiere" in North America. It was wayyyy cool being on the roof as the guys came roaring in, and even better to put skydiving on the news in a positive manner. Some of you other Canadians may recognize the name Rod Mack - Al O and Gary B (the DZO) were the other jumpers... way to go guys! You made us all look good!!!
  7. I hear that Dublin is one of the coolest cities in Europe right now... are there and Irish folks on who will confirm/deny this notion?
  8. Nya nya na boo boo, FFF is a newbie!!! As for you, Tracy, how shall we address - or even recognize you henceforth??? Speedy, can you whip up a potion that will render FFF an "enthusiast" as before, thus saving the rest of us from 45 odd posts of spam-like jibberish before he is "his old-self" again? Really, FFF, I'm glad you've got your handle back... I guess Tracy isn't too impressed with us, though...
  9. Thanks for sharing, Bill. All of you, this has been a very compelling thread. I've never seen anyone get hurt, or even had a mal myself, but I did watch, when I had maybe 10 jumps or less, another student come down with 2 canopies out (round reserve). Being new to the sport, I thought he was going to die. I had my student rig off, and was heading towards where I thought he would land as he was floating down. He stood it up, of course - ankle deep in the mucky potatoe field. He was pretty quiet on the pick-up van during the 10 minute ride back to the airport. Close call... shook me up a little! We've had only one fatality at our DZ, and it was many years ago, before any of the current batch of people were jumping... I really don't know how I would react if I saw a friend - or a stranger go in. Someone said on another thread that they turned their eyes away at the last moment... I think I would, too. Feeling sombre now... Frank
  10. Wow, Lisa ... you've deserve an award for hanging in there so long. Can't wait to hear about your next jump!!! Frank
  11. Yes, Wingnut, I'll vouch for Skreamer - he post a nekid pix of himeself ... and believe me - it wasn't pretty!!!

    Rig Choice

Another rig manufacturer to check out: http://www.telusplanet.net/public/flyhigh/
  13. I'm with Skyslut on this one - skydiving clears the mind - that is one of the best things about it for me - I DON'T think about all the stress of the daily mundane routine when I'm at the DZ... its's a wonderful distraction. Frank
  14. I knew it! That's EXACTLY what I was gonna say - well... I was gonna say "a cute little bug", so that's almost exactly! Frank
  15. Ya, rodeochic, I don't remember anyof us releasing you from the obligation of performing a ritual for us! Ok jumpers, what can we beg - I mean suggest we get her to do... hows'bout - VIRTUAL BEER (Skyhawk, your risking a demotion for being slow here...) Hey, Skymama - how did the convention end up? Did you impress lots of strange men with your skydiving stories??? Frank
  16. Welcome, rodeochic... yeah, we've got room for another skydiver! What's the jumpin' like in Indiana? Frank

    Suing DZ's....

Ok, the gal made an error in judgement, but don't any of you see the DZ and the JM's having any responsibility in this matter? If THEY had made the right decisions, discouraging her from jumping, rather than encouraging her, perhaps she would have never ended up where she did. While the article did not mention if she was licenced, it did indicate the DZ Safety Officer told her "it would be OK". Again, I agree that the jumper ulitmately is responsible, the DZ is not without blame here. Flames?
  18. Now that's got my imagination working! (The lottery ticket, I mean - THE WINNING LOTTERY TICKET!!! ... I know what you're all thinking... mmmmmmmmmmm) Really, though - I would have MUCH prefered to be jumping today, rather than at work - it was just gorgeous most of the day...
  19. Well I'm sure many of us find our surroundings beautiful... my province is known as "Beautiful British Columbia", and my city, Victoria, is known as "the City of Gardens". It is truly one of the most beautiful corners of this planet. Frank
  20. Well if I couldn't go jumping, I'd like to be up in the mountains skiing, or under the deep blue, scuba diving...

    I'm 4 no more!

Hell, yer out there skydiving! Level 4 outta the way - that ain't so bad, is it...??? So what if you don't get it perfect every time out. Just have fun and keep trying! Frank
  22. Our friend Skyhawk posted that a week or two back, but it said "...only in Australia..." If ya can't poke fun at yourself...
  23. Sorry, Skreamer - I wasn't referring to your post... we all perceive things in different ways I guess... Jan's death was not due to a lack of safety percautions - but anytime a fellow skydiver dies during a jump, it serves as notice to each of us how unpredictable this sport can be... personally, it makes me think about my own safety even more. I've gotten hung up on the door of the c-182 during exit twice now, due to being too damn tall. Fortunately I suffered no injury either time, but I have become more aware of how easily and quickly a fun jump can turn into a "life or death" experience. Despite all the measures we may take to reduce risk to ourselves, we cannot eliminate ALL the danger of the sport. I think I am starting to ramble a bit, so I'll end here, and just read what others post... Frank btw, at 78 jumps, I still consider myself a novice, not yet qualified to give advice to others. My perspective, I will share, but I would never suggest to anyone here "do as I do"...
  24. I have noticed that there ARE lots of people eager to advance perhaps too quickly in skydiving. Many people are downsizing their canopies at a relatively low number of jumps. Others are learning to freefly early in their progression, perhaps before they have mastered the skills necessary to be a good belly flyer. In this sport, as in many others, you have to learn to walk before you can run (to borrow a well-worn phrase). While this is certainly not the case with the latest horrible fatality, we should all be aware of our own skill level, and put safety ahead of everything else. Just my little rant for the day... Frank
