FFF, you're the one and only - "A Legend In Your Own Mind"! But seriously ... we can't have two triple f's ... that would be - let's see... carry the 4, subtact 1/2 the sq. root of the sum - half a dozen F's! How's 'bout, in the fashion of the deep south (or was it the wild west...?), pistols at 20 paces??? Better yet, who can do the most back loops in freefall??? Oh, man, this is gonna be good ... (I don't know what I'll do when the REAL Iflyme finds out I'm posting using his handle...!) BTW, Welcome to the new dude! I only got in one jump today due to snow/ice pellets/rain... yuck!

Sorry - that was a bit misleading, now that I've seen your post, Z. I went out before a tandem at my DZ here in Victoria - and my friend Al, the camera flyer, was jumping with the plexiglass "box" off his camera now (to reduce drag), so there is a bit more stuff exposed, increasing the risk of a snag... it just feels too weird - knowing what happened at Lodi. Sorry again for making it sound like I was on THAT load... Frank

Thanks, 'Sis for letting us know... I'm glad YOU weren't on that plane!!! Frank

Jan's death is a terrible loss... I just feel awful... I went out before the tandem and video today from the c-182 this afternoon... I don't know what else to say here... a terrible loss for the skydiving community

In this case, wouldn't that be "...safer, on the *hole*..." ??? At least hockey players have BIG gloves on - which prevents that sort of buggery! Frank
-
Holy parachute, batman! Another skydiver in BC!!! I'm over on the Island!
-
I hate it when that happens...
-
Tefkros, welcome to the new DZ.com... sorry to hear that your feelin' down... maybe MikeD can send you some of his meds... or one of the gals could post a nudie pix somewhere... Hang in there 'buds - at least you are in a place where the sun shines more often than not!

I took a bit of a beating last time, so I'm keepin' my yapper shut this time 'round...
-
Craig - I was gonna post that link too! Good on ya... the only other thing I have to add is ... TROLL!!!

So relieved to hear there were no fatalities... here is another article about the crash... http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20010331/ts/texas_plane_crash.html I hope everyone else gets home in one piece today... my thoughts go out to those injured and their families. Frank

I'm right there with you, Dofasu

Benmjamin Franklin wanted so save candle wax, so he came up with the idea of "daylight savings time". Little did he know that it would enable me to skydive after work on Wednesdays and Fridays... thanks, Ben!!! So don't forget to set you clocks ahead one hour saturday night... Frank

6'3" really tall??? Then I must be some sort of a giant... Frank (6'6")

I know we all love skydiving, but have differing opinions about the rest of the world around us. Like I said, I'm just as much a part of it as the next guy. I have mutual funds. In a round about way, I too hope to make "profit" from all of it. But that doesn't prevent me from having a clear view. I do have a tiny bit of a moral standard, though. I won't EVER shop at COSTCO. I try to avoid products made by slave/child labour in the 3rd world. I will spend more when shopping to support local business and farmers. I drink beer made with no preservatives... I don't know how that helps in the context of this thread, but if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything!!! Apology accepted. But hey, I'be been known to spout off on these threads myself sometimes! Frank

I think we've got a few ladies here who would be jumpin' outta dem planes, too!

I'm not an American, but it's easy to see that greed is the driving power behind the economic engine of your country (and mine, too). someone mentioned "...that hurts the consumers". You have just proven that you are owned by big business, like it or not. Consumerism is really just a scheme to make a very few business leaders rich. Via advertizing, they make us think we need all these products they rape the earth to produce. I am a victim, too... Anyway, the President of the USA is owned by big business, and he will run the countnry in the way that best suits THEM, not anyone else. So don't go thinking the environment matters, because it doesn't. It's all about the allmighty dollar. That's my humble opinion. And did someone say "democracy"??? Ha ha ha ... now that's the funniest thing I've read here in a while... WHAT DEMOCRACY???

Ya, Greg, I agree that you should always know which direction jump run is in... I'm always in a C-182, so it is pretty easy to just look out the window and see where you are heading, but in the bigger planes, I guess you have to make more of an effort to find out where you are heading... and sthe senior jumpers have drilled it into me, too - track perpendicular to jump run (when solo jumping), and do the same under canopy if you can - fly 90' from jump run for a bit to get away from the line of flight. Frank

Carrie, it takes a brave person to talk about an experience like that... I'm glad you made the right decision - to continue living, and not let some low-life scum steal your vitality away from you. Skydiving really helps us understand what it means to be alive - to know that we LIVING our lives, not just barely making it thru each day, dreading the next... SKYDIVE!!! Frank
-
Jessica, I'd lend my gear to a friend... especially in exchange for the cypres service! Of course you will want to agree on the condition that if anything happens to your gear... Frank
-
Andrea, that's hilarious, because I was into CB radio big-time when I was a teenager, too! Now I have FSR walkie talkies for myself, the wife, and the kids!!! And it is good to hear about other skydivers who didn't start jumping until they were in their thirties... I was 36, and had been married for 14 years when I started! You are only as old as you think you are -- it just takes a bit more effort to keep the body working properly when you've accumulated as many years as we have! Frank
-
ohh, cheap shots... I love it! Good one! (Sorry Carrie - now you fire one back at Grogs !)
-
Skymama, all I can say is "WHOOHOOO, you go, girl"! And maybe I'll grow my hair long, too! When you and I were teenagers, "Keep on truckin'" was a popular saying... well now I feel good about saying to you "Keep on flyin'"!!! Frank
-
Thanks for posting the link to this site, and to the codecs, Craig... there is sure some interesting stuff in there! Frank

Well that's just fine and everything - I mean the freedom of choice stuff, but when someone exercises their "freedom" to be an idiot, then it results in an accident, or a fatality, then ALL the participants in our sport pay for it. The rest of society views us as "a threat to ourself" and lawmakers will try to furthur regulate our freedoms. And there IS something you (and we as a group) can do about it - encourage others to act responsibly. And to answer someone who asked where we all pull, I pull at 3000. Frank
