    BOC Pouch

So the mouth of my BOC pouch on my Dolphin container is a bit loose - what are my best options for tightening it? Have the entire pouch re-sewn on? Put a tuck in the fabric of the mouth? Riggerrob? Thanks... Frank
  2. Speedy, we have Mr. Tubesteak drag a stand over to where I work sometimes, and the staff gets a great deal on lunch! Nothing better than a Jumbo Smokie with s'kraut, jalapenos, and diced raw onions!!! Frank (in Canada at this very moment!)
  3. In a big budget movie, every scene is acted, photographed, processed and edited EXACTLY how they want it! Of course, the Director quite likely isn't a skydiver, but there is certainly a lot of consulting involved...

    Yearly income

Yes, it's not JUST the income that counts, it the outgo, too. I earn good bucks, but after the mortgage, food, clothes for a family with 2 growing kids, gas, etc, there isn't much left over for J/Ts... but let's face it - skydiving is an expensive sport to get into! I agree with those of you who mentioned work ethic. I was managing a gas station when I was 18, before I went to college. Hard work pays off.

    Yearly income

I made almost 6 figures this past year... 5 to be exact!
  8. Well, I've only jumped the c-182s, a C-172, and a C-205, but in Kamloops in about 2 weeks I will jump a twin-otter, a king-air, and maybe even a helicopter, so'll I'll let ya know...

    fall rate

Hey, Shark - that was my AVERAGE speed during my style series the other weekend - I'm tall and slim... I fall like a leaf. People have a hard time falling slow enough to stay with me... I think I need to get a jump suit painted on... the good news is tonite I did my first jump with my new dive blocks - yeehaw!!! Beer!!!

Favaks, I'll be on the plane, too. Yer picking up me and some jump buddies in Victoria. Kewl!
  12. the smoker you more...the higher you get! Powerful stuff, froggie...
  13. Despite the popular notion, clothes DON'T make the man (or woman)!!! I don't give a fu%# what anyone wears. You know, "don't judge a book by it's cover". I dress like a slob, and don't have any cool t-shirts -- except my one skydiving shirt. My advice (for what it's worth): don't put style before substance.
  14. Funny, Skreamer! This is not too unusual... stay in the sport, and you will eventually have one (or more), too. I'm sure glad to hear that your other instructor survived that dreadful plance crash. As for the guy who hooked it in ... hmmmm. I don't have much sympathy for those who crash hard under a good canopy unless there was a bizarre change in the winds or something, or they were turning to avoid another canopy... Maybe we can pretend we are superstitious for a moment, and say: "bad things happen in 3s", and that would get your 4th instructor off the hook...
  15. We have a Hornet 190 here that is considered "student gear". Transitional canopy for people who don't own gear yet, but want to jump something smaller that a 288 Manta. I jumped it a few days ago when my canopy was not available (dive blocks were being sewn on to my front risers). Dutchboy's post describes my limited experience with this canopy. Everyone else here who has jumped it quite likes it!

    Kamloops

Well who is it, Billy? Too bad ya can't get to Kamloops ... it's not tooooo far from Spokane
  17. We'd be glad to have you along, Jason. We've got a twin-otter coming up from Kaposwin (near Seattle) for our May Meet... but I'd sure love to do a tail-gate exit from a skyvan sometime!

    Kamloops

It's that vast and beautiful country right between the Pacific and the Atlantic just south of the North Pole...
  19. Not too long ago, Ramon offered some good tips on progressing as a freeflyer... it might have been back on the old forum. I really nailed the sit the other day - way cool!!!
  20. I had my first big snivel the other day, too. Dumped right after exit at 10 grand to follow some of the CReW folks around the sky, but it took a bunch of seconds to open. Just because I was sub-terminal I guess... I knew I was wayyy up, so it didn't bother me too much, but one of the CReW guys who was watching me said he was thinking "Frank has issues to deal with..." The ride under canopy turned out just great - I'm liking this CReW stuff more and more...

    Kamloops

Anyone else out there other than Tee and myself going to the "May Meet" in Kamloops? It starts on 18 May... calling all Canadians, and anyone else who can find their way there...
  22. Ya, Burton Cummings summoned it up pretty well in "American Woman"... (just kiddin' ladies - you know I love ya all, no matter where you're from... BUT - Canadian women are the best - by a kilometre!!!)
  23. What an incredible story - thank goodness more skydivers didn't die. My thoughts go out to everyone involved, and the family and friends of the deceased. While we don't know why the canopy deployed prematurely, this tragedy can serve as a reminder for the rest of us to make sure the mouth of our boc pouch isn't too loose...
