    Lift Price

First of all, it's the only dz I've jumped at, so I don't know what others charge here in Canada. No, 'Sis, I don't feel I'm gettin' boned 'cause the DZO has to eat and pay for the fuel for the leased planes. This is a small DZ!!! I'd rather pay the $37 than not jump at all. Everyone knows there's not much profit in operating a DZ. As for why it costs an A licenced skydiver more that a B/C/D jumper, it's probably because we get more help/coaching/babsitting. Remember, though - that $37 CAN is about $24 US. With gear rental, it would be $55 CAN, but pretty much everyone (except the students) has their own gear here.
  2. Howdy DiverDave! Man, we must seem like such a bunch of bullshitters, sometimes... anyway, welcome!

I'm an "A" licenced Canadian jumper paying $37 to jump from any altitude. It will go to $27 when I get my "B".
  4. Ha!!! That is rather similar to my "I'll-kill-ya" story. Last night of high school, June 1980. Party at a buddies place. I'm working at the gas station that night, so when I get off and get to the party, I have some catchin' up to do. I drank a 26er via the salt and lemon thing in a VERY short time ... good for a few hours, but for the next 20 years, even the word "tequila" makes me feel sick... BLAH and DOUBLE BLAH!
  5. Thanks, Krishan - you really buggered up my afternoon at work! Actually, I only played 6 times - best I did was 4 outta 10. Tomorrow will be better!
  6. Agreed!!! While skydiving may be the BEST thing, it isn't the ONLY thing...
  7. Nobody is asking you to participate. If you don't like this thread, then don't read it. But don't try to dictate the subjects we discuss. As for your suggestion that this is "a load of crap", some of us have a social conscience...
  8. That is EXACTLY why I am looking for one right now! And Zennie, I'll try to find more info for you on Cheny's environment statement...
  9. That the way it is with everyone at my DZ. Nobody ever pays for a coached jump! Thanks goodness for small DZs!
  10. I'm proud to say that I work in the skydivingest newsroom in the country! CHEK-TV has, in the past 2 years, had a whole wack of positive skydiving coverage. I know I've talked about this before, but it was back on the old DZ.com... One of our suppertime news anchors did a tandem, which I turned in to a very informative news story. We've had coverage of a bunch of demo-jumps, including one that won a local movie theatre an international award for "best movie premier of the year" (our guys landed on the roof of the theater on opening night of Mission Impossible 2"). Josh, I don't know what part of left field you're coming from, but I certainly want my sport to be respected by the community at large. I DO care what others think. Skydiving is a wonderful sport, and the more people who are encouraged to try it, the better. Negative news coverage only makes the public think we are a bunch of daredevils with a death wish. But I think the opposite is true. Taking part in our sport is living life to the fullest. Man, I am soooo alive when that door opens... A "sport" that needs LESS coverage is WWF wrestling. That clown show is screwing up way too many kids ... wasn't there a kid in the USA who recently killed a little girl by doing a WWF move to her?
  11. Cloud9, you got it right, man. I find this hilarious - I mean, isn't GM America's #1 big company??? I say raise the freakin' price of fuel right out of sight, then maybe our society will feel the need to develop fuels that don't pollute the air we breath and the water we drink. I'd be willing to bet my left ball that bright scientists have come up with ways to produce energy from water, but the big oil companies buy up the ideas and bury them - forever ... because Dubya and his friends like Dick-head Chaney can't stand the thought of not making billions of dollars in profit -- from their cherished oil. And now that clown Chaney has said that the environment comes second to a healthy economy. Ya, right - rape the land, pollute the air and the water, so a few of you can live in big mansions. What a bunch of bullshit. Ya'll should have voted for Nader... Ok - climbing down off my soap-box now... Humble again... Frank
  12. Without having any information other than what I've read here, I would say that if his parachute HAD "opened", we wouldn't be having this discussion. So ya, based on what I've seen, I'd say that is a phrase the conveys the jist of what PROBABLY what happened.
  13. I'm not about to engage in a debate about journalism (or lawyerism), but I would expect the writer made every effort to be as accurate as possible. Of course, we have the advantage being skydivers, but the writer had to learn as much about our sport as she/he could in a very short time, then translate it for the public. That writer probably knows as much about skydiving as most of the people who visit this forum know about journalism - not much! I work with journalists all day every day, and I understand the challenges they face - deadlines, people who aren't forthcoming with information, and a wildly diverse range of subjects they must learn about - sometimes in just a few minutes... Frank
  14. HA!!! A lawyer criticizing the media - now that's funny! As for the person who died skydiving, my thoughts go out to his family and friends.

    I'm so spoiled!

You go, girl! Maybe you can keep both, and save time on packing - you know, get on those turnaround loads! Happy Birthday, Pammi!!! Frank
  16. Try double clicking on each of them - there are a whole bunch!
  17. Good pix, Skreamer - did ya get video too?
  18. Perhaps at this point, Skreamer, it should be pointed out that the digeridoo is an Australian Aboriginal musical instrument, not a skin flute!

    No One Else On

Weird ... I just checked to see who was on line - and it was just me and someone anon... first time THAT has ever happened. I feel sooo all alone...
  20. It all depends on just what you want to do with it. I am a Senior ENG Editor in a television newsroom. I've been editing professionally for 15 years (linear). At home I have a Sony Digital8 camera. (I don't fly camera *yet*, but edit at home on my PC as a hobby) I'm using Pinnacle's Studio DV, a simple and inexpensive program that came with capture card and firewire. No 3D fx, but for my needs it is fine. There is no limit on how much you can spend - and no limit on the capability of the top-end products. Just depends on your budget, I guess...
  21. Happy B/day, Lisa! Smooooch!!!

    fall rate

Yes, Tee - it did go well! 15.1 secs. I've got the video to prove it! Now if I can just get those coached jumps outta the way, I'll be able to save $10/JT! Trouble is, I'm having too much fun sit-flying
