Then you obviously haven't paid much attention. It is only 1 guy from z-hills. Me! And, I have no problem with WS flyers. Talk to all the people at the DZ. I have never had a problem with any of them. I have a problem with any skydiver in any discipline who thinks it is cool to endanger other people's safety for their amusement. To be honest with you, I have never had a problem with anyone in a wingsuit and never really gave it much thought until I saw the wreckless attitudes of some of the people posting in the threads that have been going on. At this point, I am done talking about this. The people who think it is cool cuz they have mad skills will never get what I have been trying to say, and the people who will get it already do. Come to z-hills, you will be welcomed like any other jumper. It is an awesome DZ and will be lots of fun. I don't bite and neither do any of the other jumpers. Wingsuit proximity to other canopies

You need to get a clue that there are a lot fewer wing suit flyers than everyone else and if people start to perceive a problem, it is you that is going to suffer. At my DZ if you want to swoop the pond, you have the choice of getting out low or getting out last and opening high. The jumpers that want to freefall then swoop have to trade off some of their freefall time by pulling higher. That is the way it is, they can't have everything every skydive. Why should you? You do this at what YOU consider is a safe distance and in what YOU consider a safe and controlled manner. I don't know you and I don't want you deciding for me what is safe and what is controlled. Because sometimes you have to give up something to get something No Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

That is very easy to say when you are the car. I am sure the cones feel otherwise. Funny, I have seen some pretty banged up orange cones on the side of the road. But seriously, we are sitting ducks for you guys and all you are really saying is "trust us, we know what we are doing" Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

It is hard to say what too close is and I am pretty sure that what most jumpers consider too close will be drastically different than what most WS flyers consider too close. In the other thread someone put it this way. if you weren't wearing a wingsuit and you got out after me and when we landed I had to walk up to you and say, you need to leave more time between groups because you were too close to us, that is what I would consider too close. We all have enough to worry and think about when we are under canopy and the last thing I need to be worrying about is "where are the WS going to be coming from as they pass by us." I am not trying to cause a rift between you and us, I just don't understand why you need to fly a pattern that is going to put you anywhere near open canopies while you are still in freefall. If you guys have as much control and awareness as you all seem to say you have, then stay the hell away and there is no potential for a problem (perceived or otherwise). You guys have displayed the attitude that you know what you are doing and are in complete control and we should just trust you to do the right thing. Sorry, but that is not acceptable to me. As soon as I get a chance, I will get Scott's book and read through it. I would really like to understand more. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

I very strongly disagree. Repeat: the act of buzzing someone is very safe, as safe as clapping hands. bsbd! Yuri. Something else just occured to me. I am not trying to pick a fight here and I don't fly a wingsuit so I don't know the answer to this. Is it possible that while you are so busy looking at the canopy that you are buzzing to set it up just right, you end up flying right into the canopy of someone else that is past the person you are buzzing? I very strongly disagree. Repeat: the act of buzzing someone is very safe, as safe as clapping hands. It depends on proximity... a question that has been raised by more than one person in this and the other general skydiving thread and has still not been addressed by anyone, including those who have the biggest problems with buzzing. What is a buzz? 10 yds? 100 yds? Half a mile? I haven't addressed it because I don't know or care. The fact of the matter is that you are still in freefall and I don't understand why you should be ANYWHERE near people under canopy without their permission. If any other discipline of skydiver did that they would be torn a new one. If your pattern puts you in freefall around open canopies, then there is something wrong with your pattern. It is a huge sky and you can fly anywhere you want to go, so why should you be anywhere near us? Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Hey Omar, I just want to point out that nobody brought your name into it because it really wasn't directed at you. The situation that happened with you, just brought the topic up for discussion. I don't know the circumstaces of what happened with you and wasn't trying to bring you into it at all. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

I couldn't agree more and I will check Sunshine Factory for your book. Thanks! -OK Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Those wingsuit pilots that keep landing off probably don't know what they're doing. Unless there's particular constraints being imposed (e.g. at boogies) on the direction of wingsuit flight, there isn't any good reason I can think of. Funny that just proved my point. We have no such restrictions and the same ones that talk about buzzing people, are the ones that land off all the time. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Lets see how all of the other non wingsuit jumpers feel about it. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2030334;#2030334 Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Wingsuit proximity to other canopies
okalb replied to okalb's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Based on the discussion going on in this thread http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2028087;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread I wanted to get other non wingsuit pilot's opinion. Is it acceptable for the wingsuit jumpers to "buzz" people under canopy while they are still in freefall. I am not talking about cases where this has been pre-planned. I am talking about them taking it upon themselves to buzz you while you are under canopy. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana -
Frankly, you are right. I don't know about the pattern you guys fly and to be completely honest, I don't really care. If your flight pattern puts you around people who are under canopy while you are still in freefall then I have a problem with it. Now here is the part where you try to tell me that you are not "really" still in freefall and then I ask you....do you have a parachute open? And then you say, it is more like a canopy than you think and I say, can you land with it This is not a comment aimed at you, but quite a few of wingsuit flyers that I have seen at z-hills, I wouldn't trust to show me which direction was north. I am by no means implying that all wing suit flyers are clueless. I am saying that just because you put on a wing suit, doesn't automatically mean you have a clue. You still don't seem to get it. Let me put it a different way. Before wingsuits existed, if I were to get out of the plane last, spend the entire skydive tracking up the line of flight, freefall past the other jumpers under canopy and open in the middle of them, I would probably get a pretty stiff talking to. If I continued to do it on a regular basis, I would probably get grounded if not worse. What makes people with a wingsuit any different? Why are you exempt from what is considered safe and proper behavior? Why should the rest of us have to deal with the additional risk because you want to have some fun? If you are bored flying a wingsuit and need to fly between canopies to entertain yourself, then maybe you should find a different hobby. If you ask people in front of you on the plane and they don't mind, go for it. Otherwise you should be opening in the same place that the last group out would be opening if they weren't wing suit flyers. You should never be further up the line of flight than you would be if you were the last group out without wings. The reason myself and many others have a problem with MOST wingsuit flyers is because too many of them have the attitude that I have seen in this thread. You are not special and the same rules apply to you that apply to everyone else in every other discipline of the sport. I don't care how much control you THINK you have. You have no right to put others at risk with your antics. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

True and I should have said that differently, but unfortunately, there are more with his attitude around than yours. What seems odd, is that for the most part (with a few exceptions) all of the people that think it is cool to buzz someone without planning it, all have a few hundred jumps, while the people with over a thousand jumps say it is uncool. But hey, what do we know? They have done this hundreds of times, they know everything there is to know. All I know is that we have a fair number of wingsuit pilots at z-hills and out of all of them, there are probably less than a handful that I would trust to buzz me. If any of the others did it, I would be extremely pissed at best. Even the ones that I trust should talk to me before doing it. If buzzing canopies without their consent becomes more common, I would be willing to bet that rules will be put into place that will make life very difficult for the wingsuit pilots. Like with everything else in the sport, If they can't police themselves, then others will be more than happy to do it for them. -OK Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Sorry, but that is without a doubt one of the stupidest comments I have ever read on dropzone.com. We all got in the sport to have fun. Your fun STOPS when you are endangering the life and safety of other jumpers who have nothing to do with what you are doing. You want to act like a jackass, that is your business. Do it close to me or my friends or innocent students without our consent that becomes our business. You have no right to endanger other peoples safety for your amusement. Scott was right, it is moronic attitudes like yours that make the rest of us dislike wingsuit flyers. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

It is pushing it too much if they all take too long setting up the exit past the line. I would have everyone grab grips with each row as far apart as possible, so the last coupla rows or so are behind the line. Then on 'ready', bunch 'set' up, GO! Well, if you do that, as someone above mentioned, there is a good chance of the last few out eating the tailgate. Also, in this case they had 18 plus video out first which means 19, they were breaking the 18 rule anyway. More importantly, I was the guy in charge of getting everyone sorted in the loading area, determining exit order and loading the planes and I told them not to do it. They said they were breaking it into two seperate groups and then they did it anyway. Since when does going to a boogie mean leaving your brain at home. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Not to be a party pooper or anything, but I distinctly remember telling you guys that you couldn't put that many people on the tailgate and I was told that you were breaking into two separate groups to avoid stalling the CASA. I also remember coming on the plane after it was loaded to tell you all to check your pilot chutes before doing something that stupid because a premature deployment could kill someone. But what the hell do I know! Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

I am all for city hall, but! A lot of people don't know this, but several years ago a bunch of us got together and decided that Phantom was mayor of the dropzone. There was no election or anything as one was not needed. Everyone pretty much agreed that he was the guy. We were going to have buttons and t-shirts made but never got around to it. So if we call it city hall there has to be a photo of mayor Phantom in there. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

It was a total of 53 loads yesterday and all but 1 of them was completely full. Thanks to everyone for coming out to play. This boogie has grown over the last few years and gotten better and better each year. Hope to see you all next year for the bigger better Z-hills holiday boogie. -OK (the cranky guy in the loading area putting you guys on the airplanes) Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Funny, I grew up in a house with a lesbian mother. When I was young and her girlfriend stayed over, it never seemed at all odd to me. I looked at it as I assume any child would. When my friends stay over, they sleep in my room with me, so when hers stay over they stay in her room with her. It wasn't until I was older and understood more that I realized the situation wasn't the same. I wonder if the militant homosexual agenda was brainwashing me through Sesame Street all along Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana
