Anybody here from that dropzone in GA that is ABSOLUTLY NEVER mentioned here on dz.com? more importantly - any belly fliers going to be out this weekend? And who might want to do a jump (or 2) with a really-really-incredibly good-looking Canadian? (oh and who can fall faster than 110 mph?) Fat guys like me don't fall that slow........ I promise I won't pull at 2200 feet, over the forest, and downwind of the dropzone this time (although I reserve the right to do a combination of any 2 of the above, on any single jump)

Another RDS/removable slider question
MrBrant replied to MrBrant's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I had thought of the packing of the stiffer cable, and knew it would be less desirable. I hadn't considered any "slider rebound" yet - thanks! I shall ponder. (that's an awesome term by the way ) Would the loops not be load bearing in the beginning phases of the canopy inflation? As the wing wants to expand, but the slider holds it "closed" until it slides down the lines? Dave: yup, I hope to begin construction on it soon. It's a joint project between myself and my friendly neighborhood master rigger. (having somebody who know's something about textiles helps ) Mark: Glad to hear you hand't heard about it before either. (although thousands of jumps isn't a huge sample yet, 10's-100 thousands and we're talking ) I would rather use the more flexible cable for ease of packing (and, as Spizz mentioned I wouldn't want it to creep down my lines too early). I hadn't eard of this before either, but it crossed my mind, and, I'd rather be paranoid now, instead of in unnecessary pain later! Brant -
Another RDS/removable slider question
MrBrant replied to MrBrant's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Hey guys - I've got another RDS question. Most of the designs I've seen have a white loop connecting the rings to the slider, then run through a gromet, and held in place with a yellow Lolon-F coated cutaway cable. My question is, has anybody heard of this cable getting "sucked" through the gromet? (Like what can happen if you don't use the eyelet at the end of your cutaway housings on the 3-rings) If not, why not? Are the forces on the cable less in this application, than the white-loop on the 3-ring system? Or perhaps it's because the cable guide channels are closer to the loop(s) on a slider than on a riser? I was thinking of using the black nylon cable for mine instead (the ones used for student ripcords with spring-loaded PCs). Although I believe this coating is more brittle, and cracks easier, I do recall that it is much stiffer and may reduce teh chances of gromet sucking. (if the potential issue even exists). Anybody come accross this issue? Brant -
How would you land down hill???
MrBrant replied to stayhigh's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
it's not about saying : dont do it because this or that.. it's about saying : get proper education before doing it in the most intelligent manner. My apologies, I should have mentioned that was more of a general observation of DZ.com replies. Not specific to this one thread, or any 1 poster. -

If you've already thought throught the risks, and have decided that this is an acceptable risk for YOU, then no jerk on the internet saying "no, you dont' have enought jumps, its too dangerous, you're stupid" is going to stop you (and neither should they). So, have some info. http://www.bigairsportz.com/art-groundlaunch.php Have fun, don't die! -
I would personally rather have my digital alti die completly and go blank, than have my analog get stuck at 6000.

If maintained correctly, (IMO) the FXC12000 is a perfectly acceptable AAD. (I've witnessed a couple saves by them). You do have to be careful with them under canopy a bit. You probably won't be able to fire it with your PD-260, but it's something to keep in mind as you downsize. I had a buddy who kept his though a downsize to a Sabre 150. He had a 2-out within a month. Edited to add - I probably wouldnt' use one regularily though!

Although I know more about commercial electric systems than residential gas - here's the 2 things I would check: 1. Auto-reset safety. There will be an auto-reset safety (limit switch). If the temperature gets too warm, it will trip, and shut off the burners. This could be malfunctioning and tripping too soon. 2. air pressure switch. (big metal can with a diaphram and microsiwtch) in home systems, I believe these are usually used to make sure the exhaust fan is running. Typically thease are very sensitve switches, and can fail. To give you an idea, the ones used in commercial duct heaters usually have a trip point of 0.05 inches of water. (approx 0.035 PSI) Those are the 2 things that come to my mind which could easily cause the cycling you describe.

see if you can try out a Neptune. They are great altimeters. L&B (visio) makes really good products as well, but I absolutly hate their menu structure. (i mean, come on, this isn't the 80's anymore - none of this secret code crap)

where's the fun in that?????

how often will you be returing to Orlando (or any other city/DZ with a tunnel?) I did 15 minutes in Eloy a couple months ago - and I will just say that it was money well spent!!

already on its way a fancy V3 w/ skyhook and PD-176R. This is to go with my already-aquired Signature Samurai 170

magnetic riser covers already ordered. I think I'll probably go for the foam - why not, right?
-
makes scents - air movement is always good to keep from sweating like a pig! My container order is already in, but with the options I have, it is almost free to go with the spacer foam - I'm just trying to decide if I want it or not. (mostly bulk factor). so, I don't think i can wait for the next CanPara to make my decision! Anybody got some pics?????
-
Just wondering if anybody has any pictures of the new spacer foam option? I ran a search, but came up empty. The one on the RWS (UPT) website doesn't really give an overall view. Does it add much extra bulk to the rig? Thanks,

I think it's an interesting question. Don't be so quick to trash something because it is of no interest to YOU. I know somebody who (back in his BASE days) jumped a decellerator chute (think drag racer) into water. It was a very interesting story!
