What if you fell out of an airplane without a parachute?
MrBrant replied to Vertifly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would die -
i don't know, it seems to work OK. Nice and easy to release. Although, I do like what Al MacDonald does with the sidewinder rig. The RSL release is a longer red tab, which has a snap, connected to the harness. This way, it doesn't move when the risers do. Also its setup so that the Velcro stays mated with each deployment. http://www.telusplanet.net/public/flyhigh/rigphoto.htm picture half way down the page.

AGREED!

pelican case expensive, but uber good!

I have a suggestion regarding the subject lines in the "complete systems" classifieds category. Perhaps a form could be set up for the container/main/reserve model and size, and AAD. A subject line could then be generated. I think this would make it much easier for buyers. For example: (from the classifieds) good subject lines: "Javelin Odyssey NJ/Spectre 120/PDR 126/Cypres" "Talon2 T2 / Stiletto 107 / PD126 / Cypres" "VORTEX II + BATWING 116 +TEMPO 150 + CYPRESS" So-so subject lines: "Mirage, PD Silouette,Raven and Cypres" (what size??) "Triathalon/Dolphin D3/Swift plus reserve" horrible subject lines: "Rig For Sale" "Vector 3 - Possible Female starter rig" "Great Rig" I know this would take away flexibliity. (perhaps keep the existing system for Wanted ads), but FUCK is it annoying to weed through ads that people put no thought into.... Thoughts?

not usually, but on a busy day where there's only one packer trained on tandems it happens from time to time. (ex. I'll stow breaks on tandem #1, get somebody else to pack and close it while I pack #2, then I'll do the drogue on #1.) (Vector tandems) It works, since the actual packing is just like a student main, the extra breaks and the drogue is the only "complicated" part. It's not done often, and slightly discouraged when not required (since, its obviously a lot more work for the canopy packer, while the drogue monkey steals 5 bucks for 2 minute's work) When I get somebody to help me with tandems on a busy day like that, I make sure to take care of their beers that night. note: we are a small dropzone, with no actual packers. Most people pack just to help out the dropzone, while making a few jump credits. Nobody packs for cash or anything.

send the canopy on the links. PC and free-bag stay with YOUR container.

Winnipeg Skydiving (Gimli, MB): We flat-pack all students and tandems. the occasional tandem is pro-packed, but mostly flat-packed. student gear: $5.50 Tandem (canopy): $5.50 Drogue: $5.50

Although I'm very new myself, I think i have to disagree with you on that. Check out the clip i posted above ( http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=4220 ). There is a definite increase in speed.

I fly a pilot 188 @ 1.4. I havn't made it up to 90's yet (been working on double fronts the last 30ish jumps). But, with only double fronts, I am able to see a very significant increase in speed. (been using the breaks to front-risers thing) is this normal, or does gravity just love us fat guys? Perhaps I'll post a clip to SDM.com later today.....

The main thig is to make sure the apex (handle) and the bridal attachment are as close to the same point as possible. If you have have the hackey and bridal at different ends, it can and will bunch up at the mouth of the BOC. TM's don't like it when you forget to do this with the Drogue on the first pack of the year

mail to and from the states is REALLY slow right now. I've sent some stuff down to FL, and had them send stuff back up, and its taking like a MONTH when it was shipped AIR!

pilot 150--do they always open so sloooowwww
MrBrant replied to woodpecker's topic in Gear and Rigging
1000 feet?? holy crap, that's a still a helluva long opening. my Pilot opens very soft in about 600 feet. do you flake the inside of the canopy when pro-packing? (The reach in the stabilizer, and line up the folds and line-attachment points) I find the openings a bunch more consistent this way, and it does seem to speed them up considerably. (Don't get me wrong, it's still really soft, but not as much useless snivelling and collapsed end-cells this way.) Might be worth a shot, if you're not doing it already. Question for anyone: how does wing-loading affect opening speed? (does it, and is it somewhat predictable?) Would a canopy loaded at 1:1 open slower than that same canopy @ 1.4:1? (given same deployment speed, etc.) -
Or, at the very least, give you some cooking techniques...

oh man, that' funny! sorry man, but holy crap that was funny!

turn the dial slowly counterclockwise until it beeps. the point it beeps is your ground reference. Each tick in the dial is 1000 feet. Turn the dial clockwise until you reach your desired beep altitude. With these old ones, you can also fine-tune them in the plane. (example: if you set your beep for 3500 feet on the ground, and it beeps at 3200 feet in the plane, simply turn it up 1/4-1/2 a division) Make sense? Or do I suck at explaining things?

Now, that that change by canopy size as you go larger/smaller? For example, I load a 190 at about 1.4. Would a canopy that large at 1.4 fly well with a smaller canopies loaded at 1.3? Or would I have to go up a bit in size to get to the 1.3 range, or perhaps down to have the sizes closer together or something?

Any good CRW jump stories from this weekend?
MrBrant replied to waltappel's topic in Canopy Relative Work
oh yeah, for sure. most of what we do is proximity flying, using each other as a reference to see what our canopies do with different combonations of inputs. Still a helluva lot of fun though! -

YES! made first-contact on Friday. -
Ok, so that is a standard "decision" height then. It just sounded a bit excessive (IMHO only) for somebody with 130 jumps. (Not that I would criticize anybody for thier chop/no chop desision, but I do like to analize the decision process) what's the recomended altitudes for Pre-A, and B liscense holders?

Still in freefall at 2500 ft, and jumping a (snivelly) large Pilot? When exactly do you get seated in your harness? Breaks are usually unstowed by 18-1900 feet. I jump at a small cessna dropzone, normal breakoff is 3500 ft, with pull altitude of 2300 feet.
