Prices for Bodyflight UK are up - a few questions
skreamer replied to Newbie's topic in Wind Tunnels
From my experience (IT support role for American company, brother in law developer in Washington) - I believe IT pays better in the states but from what I've seen they generally work longer hours. Also, we mostly get minimum 20 days paid leave pa, I understand 10 days is quite common in the states. To get (slightly) back on thread, for me it makes more sense learning to freefly to get my tunnel time at Eloy. However for 4-way people I can understand the local tunnels being both affordable and convenient. -

Maybe the price of petrol will put it in context. We pay just over $6 per gallon, I heard my American friends complaining recently when the US price went over $2,50 per gallon. Same with jump tickets, the average price for a jump in the UK is between $35 and $40. -
If you don't come stay with us again before and/or after next year's Herc boogie I'm going to have some explaining to do to my house. Also, there is some stupid fucker walking around London who only has the use of his legs because you were sitting in the passenger seat. He probably wants you to come back as well. Maybe I've helped you a bit, I know you've helped me in the past - it is all good.

Jesus Macca, who photoshopped that Thunderbirds head onto your body??? I remember you catching some shit for your enthusiasm when you started posting after your first tandem. Looks like you've come a long way.

I carry a copy of this quote in my wallet : George Mallory, 1922 When people ask why I BASE jump or skydive I give them that to read. If they don't ask sensible questions after that I change the topic or move on.

'195 (once) '210 (twice) '220 (once) '240 (five) About 100 slider down jumps in total. My conclusions were based from jumping a '370 (exit point) freestander (about 20 jumps). Have experimented from it with delays from go and throw to 2 second delays, also with various PCs. Those jumps above were the freefalls only. Apart from the '220 I SL'd all the others first to get an idea of the 'picture' under canopy and the landing. I've also made 15 jumps from the same '330 cliff. I can feel the difference in hang time, this is backed up by ground video. Based on my experiences above and from observation of others I believe on low freefalls a 0.5 second delay is better than a 'throw and go'. I also make some small rigging changes, PM me if you want details. Being able to jump the same object back to back is useful, I'll be able to give more accurate feedback when I have identical canopies. Will

I'd go with snatch force, following on from this I also reckon on a low freefall a 0.5 second delay is better than a 0.001 second delay.

Some things that will make you a better skydiver
skreamer replied to Ron's topic in Safety and Training
Not yet, at the moment all my money and free time is spent on BASE trips and skydiving. Maybe if I lived somewhere with better weather I could do another activity. -
Good post. I just did my first PF track jumps in the valley. I practiced the deployment you describe above skydiving the outfit first about 12 times. It works great, I also drop my knees just a bit (seems to help prevent going head down and getting spanked). I managed 8 BASE jumps with the outfit and had no problems. I am really happy with the outfit and was getting some nice forward speed. I'm sorry about Darcy, I never met him but from what guys here in the valley were saying he was a good bloke. Hopefully people reading about this will think about testing new gear and configurations in a skydiving environment first. Will

Dude, totally. One of my main ambitions in life is to get some of my footage used in one of James's PF vids. He is my hero.

Don't let me catch you low-pulling again! Looking forward to seeing the flying starfish in action next month. James has already nixed my creative suggestions to go slider down off ITW.

I met Piers in 1993 through the Cape Tech skydiving club. We were on the same SL course, same lift for our first jumps. I lost touch with him, but then we bumped into each other at Eloy again this past Christmas, it was so nice to stand around the fire with him, drink some beers and talk 'kak'. I attended his rigging seminar, his passion and understanding for skydiving gear was obvious. He could explain concepts in a way that everybody could understand, not a skill many engineers possess. The last email he sent me he was going on about how I must come visit, about the awesome braais they had with up to 20 Saffers - you could tell he was enjoying life in Florida. Cheers chom, you'll be missed. Will

Nah, with the amount of bullshit he produces I suspect he'd enjoy the experience.

I got my custom Wings in mid-2001, I am still happy with it today. They posted me riser inserts to the UK (free). Heather was always a pleasure to deal with and I'm sure I'll find the same with Anke when I order my next Wings. The products and people who work there are great.

PM received.

Exactly, which is why synthetic corks are gaining in popularity. Of course you could buy some of that nasty south american stuff with a screw top...

I tried both, I also emailed manifest (twice) - no reply.

Could someone please help me with the following : How much is a block of 50 jump tickets at Eloy (the 1 week deal)? Has the jump ticket price for the dz.com boogie been announced? How much does it cost to hire a 4-person team trailer at Eloy? Any help with the above would be much appreciated. Thanks.

So, you were in a gay bar with your mean bone exposed and nobody wanted to fight you? Nice. As for Shannon, after drinking her Argentinian dry red (which was only marginally better than the free beer at Eloy) I decided she was hot. That was the night I realized that cheap beer and cheap wine don't mix. I can't recall what she does for a job, but God she has bad taste in wine.

When you move to Tucson I'm coming to live in your liquor cabinet!

Also critical is whether to clear toggles or land on risers. If toggles then don't 'pop' them or you'll get forward surge , also don't flare too deep when you clear them or you could stall canopy. I've made both mistakes, perhaps do a couple PCAs or SLs from a higher object (even one you would usually freefall) just until you get your technique worked out. From my experience of using two different canopies (size and make), this plays a considerable role in pendulum effect. Sabre210 is well versed in low technical jumps and loves the techie geeky shit, I'm sure he'll be chiming in here shortly.

If they are not designed for lowtimers why were you flying one?
