It is not overly easy to get a gun here. If you have a criminal background, it won't happen legally. If you do, you can probably get one illegally. Making guns illegal will not stop criminals from getting them. There are 600 million people in the US (I'm estimating here, so please, no need to correct this one). There are no where near that many cops. I would prefer to have a means to protect myself in the event that a police officer is unable to at the time. Gun's don't kill people, criminals do. Stopping law-abiding citizens from having guns won't stop them. Accidents do happen with guns, and it is unfortunate. However, people electrocute themselves, fall off of ladders, and do various other untentional things to injure or kill themselves. No one is trying to outlaw any of them. CCW folks are law abiding citizens. These people take the time and effort to get a permit to carry legally. If their intent was to commit a crime, it would be far easier to carry a gun illegally. MOST pro-gun people are not gun freaks. Some gun owners are not trained sufficiently. Many more people aren't capable of operating a motor vehicle safely, but no one is trying to ban cars. Some aren't responsible enough to keep guns away from their kids. Some parents aren't responsible enough to keep their kids away from knives, hot stoves, etc... No one is trying to ban those. Not defenseless, but at a considerable disadvantage. I'd rather try to stop them than just accept the fact that they are going to kill me. It is not that simple. No society is utopic. There are gun freaks, there are many kinds of freaks. People go nuts, but they go nuts with knives, baseball bats, and many other weapons as well. I think you don't know what the hell you're talking about. For you, probably.

Nearly all of your posts in SC on police-related issues would show otherwise. Should I post the link to the thread where you referred to all cops as pigs no less than 17 times? I won't disagree with you there. I think corporate america has way too much influence in the government. http://www.arlingtonpd.org/index.asp?nextpg=recruiting/require.asp There's one for now. I don't have a whole lot of time to look them up, but I'll put more up later if you so desire.

Against the will of the UN? Tell me, how many UN resolutions was SH complying with? The UN sure as hell wasn't going to to anything about it (except the whole oil-for-food scandal thing). Good for you. I, like many others, don't give a shit what you think. Good luck. You'll need it.

The right to die and Motorcycle Helmet Laws
justinb138 replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
What I don't understand is why some people have a helmet strapped to the back of a bike with a cargo net while riding... -
Every police department in my area requires at least a 2-year degree, and most require a 4 year degree. Get your facts straight before you start your police-hating messages again.

I dunno, but I'm betting it was preceeded by mass consumption of alcohol.

I've seen these things on the wings of the otter, but have no idea what they are/what their purpose is. Can someone enlighten me? -

eh, just get some duct tape, it'll work.. -
Good Point.. I had never thought of that.

True. And I've never met any violent potheads. You really don't have to worry about people driving high as opposed to driving drunk either. I mean, if they hit something, they're probably doing about 4mph anyway.... Bingo.
-
I agree. I was just replying to what he had written, which seemed to be comparing smoking a little marijuana to getting black-out drunk. But, all things considered, I do believe that alcohol is a more dangerous drug than marijuana. Just to clarify things, I wasn't trying to compare the health risks of the two, just the fact that taking drinking to the extreme is perfectly legal, where as smoking even a little pot can get you into some serious trouble.
-
It might. I personally haven't known anyone that really used pot to a point where it really hurt anything. However, how is it any different than an AA meeting? Marijuana, like alcohol, can be abused, and the effects of the abuse are similar. I'm not saying either are good. I just think it's kind of stupid to so aggressively regulate one and not the other.

Alot of people, including myself would disagree with that. In skydiving, yes. I don't see how a simple mistake can kill you with a gun. Unless you call pointing a loaded gun at one of your vital organs and pulling the trigger a simple mistake. Screwing up one of the basic rules of gun safety won't get you killed. It would take screwing up nearly all of them. (as this guy did) Since when do you have any faith in the government? Given his situation, it doesn't matter what type of gun it was. He brought a loaded gun into a classroom for a safety class. He wasn't stacking the odds in his favor. That's because it is completely different. Guns are not dangerous in that video. The guy handling them is. It's only ammunition when you twist the story to fit your opinions. Yes, he is.

. The only thing I've seen people do after pot is Doritos... Personally, I don't see the real difference between someone going home after work and getting stoned, or that same person going home and getting black-out drunk. Only thing different is that one is perfectly legal, and the other will get you jail time, and costs billions of dollars a year to attempt to control.

You can't really compare this to skydiving. If you did, you should be comparing him to a 100 jump wonder going out and buying a VX60, jumping it at night, over a forest, and then trying to pull a 270 to swoop the tree line. If a skydiver went in doing that, you'd call him an idiot. You have to screw up pretty bad to shoot yourself in the foot.

Student kills 5 at school and grandparents
justinb138 replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
Given the number of possibilities of why it could have dropped, I find it funny that you are so certain that the use of the death pentalty had any effect on it at all. -
He signed up for military service, not military service when he felt that it was appropraite. Object? Yes. Fleeing the country to avoid your commitments? No. If he didn't like the possibility of war, he shouldn't have signed up.

Don't believe everything you see on TV. He did everything he could for 8 years to try and help her. Nothing worked. He's been involved in legal battles with the family since then. I don't know where you read it from, but I question it's accuracy. Please post links to what you have read if possible, as I'd like to read it myself.
