Or a f*ckin hand grenade...... From the article: Anyone know if this is standard procedure for such an event? I would assume so, but I wasn't sure. -
my grandfather (a gunsmith, and firearms safety officer for more than 50 years) taught me these: safety lesson 1: never point a gun at ANYTHING you are not prepared to shoot. that one lesson can/does/could have prevented a large number of incidents.... assumption 1: it's always loaded. Check it everytime you pick it up, if its been out of your sight since the last time you checked it. I was taught those things too. And bill, shooting yourself in the foot in no way compares to the skydiving incidents you mentioned.

This 5yr old was attacking other teachers and could have injured other students. Not incapable, just that the task is better handled by someone else. If the principal/teacher had tried to stop her, he'd probably be sued and out of a job.

And worrying about Steriods in baseball. You read my mind. Sometimes I just have to shake my head and wonder maybe I am missing something. I shake my head everytime I see my paycheck and see how much it costs me to have a goverment that worries about shit like that.

I think it's pretty obvious he either wasn't trained properly, or was and is just an idiot. Pulling the trigger on any weapon, whether you think it's loaded or not while it's pointed at your foot is just stupid. Guns don't endanger you life, being stupid and irresponsible with them does. A gun in the hands of someone who is trained properly, and handles a weapon safely, is much more likely to protect than cause harm.

I fixed it for you.

It's not that the teachers/staff couldn't handle it, it's that they probably couldn't handle it without being sued.

The part I find most disturbing is that she blames the school instead of her kid (who obviously has issues), and immediatly gets a lawyer. Had the school officials done anything to physically stop/restrain her, the mother would be getting a lawyer anyway. Given the circumstances, I think they made the right choice.

Anyone know what form of execution it's going to be? If it's California, I think they prefer the "let him sit on death row until he dies of natural causes" method of execution.

For once Bill, I'll agree with you. My opinion: Teri Schiavo is dead. Why keep her body alive for another decade?

or a clutch cable.... trust me, it sucks...

IIRC, there is a video of one being used to cut 3mm steel cable on www.skydivingmovies.com. Should give you a good idea of what it looks like, and you can also check out the manufacturers website for more information. Hope that helps a little bit.

If it makes you feel any better, I was there that day. Nothing was out of the ordinary, and the instructor in question was just as professional as they always are when I was asking a few questions. Aaron's (ahegeman) post pretty much hit the nail on the head.

I need to try it again w/o my baggy heavy-cotton RW suit (with the big cordura grippers and booties).. What's your record?

135? I was working on some fall rate stuff today and hit a max of 157!

U.S. Marines versus United Auto Workers Union

I agree with you in that I wouldn't want the government investing my money, but I think it would be great if I could put it in my 401K instead of SS, that way it will actually be there when I need it. -
Is there a very noticable difference between seal thread and E thread? (enough of a difference that it would likely be found on a gear check), or do you pretty much have to try and break it to tell the difference? I find stuff like this rather unnerving...
