A problem with how these things are covered is that Trump and his supporters are almost always allowed to get away with treating every individual instance of white supremacist speech, policy, association or staffing as just one individual thing on its own with no connection to the whole. Then every individual thing can be explained away on its own, that speech was misinterpreted, that dinner with a neo-Nazi was accidental, we didn't know that guy was into white-power when we hired him etc etc. When you put it all together though it's undeniable, but they're never hammered on it.

That one deserves its own thread really. He was actually fired by Trump administration 1 for being a white supremacist back when they had to care about public perception. Now he’s been rehired by Trump 2.0 since they can do whatever they want without anyone to hold them back. All the talk about ‘ending DEI’? This is the real agenda. Explicit racism, plain and simple.

How much did the Silk Road founder pay Trump for his pardon?
jakee replied to jakee's topic in Speakers Corner
He built a site specifically intended for people to sell drugs and other illegal products and services. Yes, I think other executives who do the same thing should go to jail. I think it's scandalous that it is so rare for the architects of illegal business practices to be prosecuted. Don't you? So? Trump thinks El Chapo should have got the death penalty. So? Campaign trail Trump said people like him should be executed. Yes, that's the question - how much did he pay? -
Studying reports of oddities and saying "an unknown object the size of a football field was moving hundreds of miles an hour underwater" are two very different things. Stop being so misleading and deceptive. Nothing in that paragraph relates to anything I've said or implied. Stop being so misleading and deceptive. That is not true, and it is misleading and deceptive to say so. The guy claims with no evidence that he was told something utterly insane by the military. It is an absolutely legitimate view to take that he has simply made it up or that his pre-existing bias has caused him to massively misinterpret what he was told. I mean come on my dude - of all the times to start insisting that a politician must be telling the truth...
-
It doesn't lead me to conclude the post was misleading. The guys claims he was told something utterly insane by the military in a secret briefing. So either the military is giving utterly insane secret briefings to congress, or he made it up. You use your version of Occam's Razor, I'll use mine.

How much did the Silk Road founder pay Trump for his pardon?

During Trump's campaign he called on numerous times for tougher penalties including the death penalty for drug dealers. One of his first acts as president was to unconditionally pardon the founder of a site that sold hundreds of millions of dollars of illegal drugs and called the people who brought that drug dealer to justice in the first place 'scum'. Since Trump has absolute immunity for official acts it is completely legal for him to sell pardons so... how much do we think he got for it? -
Well.... yeah. It's as nutso as everything else he said. Just think about the physics of something the size of a football field moving at hundreds of miles an hour underwater. It'd be boiling the ocean around it.
-
It might not be the worst thing he or other Presidents have ever done, but I struggle to think of a more horrendous bit of public speaking. An unfathomable level of callous, tone-deaf, narcissism.
-
Why thank you, I think I will. I wonder how it felt when Trump categorically proved on day one that you are entirely, wilfully ignorant of both his character and the nature of the administration he will run?
-
Sounds like you're identifying as a guy who's been having a totally different conversation
-
That's convenient. After knowing what score Elon got, you've decided that exact score is the low end cut off for being allowed in... with no additional requirements for actual relevant to employment qualifications or expertise. Sounds legit.
-
Looks like you're telling him what he means instead of asking, and assuming you know better than him what he meant because you think you can see inside his mind.
-
Who's been watching too much Fox after their bedtime?
-
The game of saying what you mean? So to be clear - you want me to assume I know what you mean instead of asking? You're saying that's the right way to do things?
-
But not that specific one? You see that's a patheitc dereliction of duty, don't you? Why did I have to find it for you? No, I ony wanted you to admit you were lying about the earlier 'predictions' you tried to scaremonger with. Since you already have, I'm pretty sure those other ones aren't anywhere near as bad - if they were then you wouldn't have had to lie in the frst place.
-
In your own mind you are - but only because you made an assumption about what I meant and won;t be told otherwise because you know the inside of my mind better than I do. What would you call someone who thinks like that?
-
Why would I be trying? Hey - here's an argument for why DEI is a good thing. Why didn't you know about it? Why am I having to do your homework for you? Why were you too lazy and ignorant to look it up on your own? Two hours detention after school and no dessert while you think about how you can do better next time. https://hbr.org/2023/05/how-investing-in-dei-helps-companies-become-more-adaptable

It often does take a smart person to make utter bullshit sound believable, and the information theory argument is certainly bullshit. But hey, it's nice to know that you're happy to let the ivory tower elite tell you what to think.
-
Oh that's what you meant? Well that's hilariously dumb. Of course I know you identify as one of my betters - it's all part and parcel of your closed minded, narcissistic personality. If you just assume you're better then you don't have to risk actually listening to anything.
-
Yeah, I assumed that ‘MAGA is coming’ meant that MAGA is coming. Do you disagree? Thing is, no matter how strongly you insist you’re a psychic who knows what I meant better than I do, my point had nothing to do with what he meant, but about the source material for the meme. I mean, did you even think to ask what I meant, or did you just assume because you’re an arrogant hypocrite? I mean come on, do you not think, as an open minded person, that you are doing the 100% exact thing you’re arguing about?
-
Lol, what? You’re saying I only think that Trump suggesting injecting bleach and shining UV light as a treatment for Covid was incredibly stupid because you think it was an intelligent and insightful suggestion? You’re saying I only picked you up on your made up climate change predictions because it was you that made them up? What was that about narcissism again? Well it’s certainly impossible to argue against that - because it’s meaningless word salad.
-
I told him what it means in the source material. You assumed I didn’t mean that. Did you jump into my mind and see the information? The sky is indeed blue and Turtle is proving again what a hypocrite he is. All is well with the world.
-
Yep, when your argument started by trying to tell me I meant to tell someone else what they meant it’s really no surprise that ‘whatever’ is all you have left. Of course, if you had a single shred of intellectual honesty or open mindedness you’d admit that you were doing exactly what you were trying to scold me for… but it’s you.
-
Of trying to tell me what I meant? That’s exactly the point - you understand but you ignore it because you’re not open minded enough to apply the same standards to allies and opponents.
