is it logical to do your first jump AFF?
KrisFlyZ replied to CaneSpider's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I agree. I would only suggest AFF as the first jump to people that have prior canopy experience(paragliding etc). Doing a tandem or two to get a feel for what's going on is IMO the more prudent choice. My first jump was AFF. I then did a tandem and then continued AFF(or STP in my case). Kris. -
Now why didn't I think about that. Kris.

Ahh, but isn't this a question for a guys and whether they would be happy to be with one woman for the rest of their lives? There is no mention of imposted faithfulness on the women. A chance for you and the women of the world GFD to have several faithful men at your disposal. Women..antifnsocial wants to be kept and will be faithful. Any takers? Kris.

Well, I've done that as well, and it's a lot of fun But I think we're comparing two different things here. Do we want to flock with a lot of forward speed, with a good glideratio? Or do we want to just try to group together, not paying attention to speed and glide ratio? /Micke Mike, I see your point. We are at present just flying along together at a stable and easy pace to get everyone in. The way flocking is happening now(mostly number of flockers wise), the need to have more efficient flights has not been reached. During the Deland event last year Scott Bland(Base) was asked to speed up forward as the number of flockers grew. With us approaching and hopefully exceeding 60 ways this year, we will soon be in the realm where the kind of efficiency we are achieveing now will simply not be enough. When flocks are flown so fast forward that the lighter pilots cannot maintain that glidescope we may be at a point where weights become necessary. We are talking about a heavier pilot and a lighter pilot having the same glide ratio but vastly differing vertical and forward speeds. While I would love to be in flights that I cannot somehow match the forward speed(missed an opportunity at the ZFlock and Dock event to fly with Robi and James ), I don't see these kind of flights becoming the norm on flocks until the expertise levels of the wingsuit flyers increases drastically. More precise flying skills will be needed for such flocks to be possible. Kris.

Mike, some of us have heard the statement..."looks like you guys were falling too fast, so I flew for time". Most people that have had the good fortune of being on good flocking dives don't think twice about collapsing their wings and getting in the flock. As far as weights go, I don't think they are needed. Very skinny people have managed to do very well on 70 sec flocks. Zach Mullins was killing it at last years WFFC. Can you find anyone with a lesser wing loading? Kris. Kris.

The video finally downloaded. It looks like Vesa's regular suit(of course if they are his standard colors....). Can any BASE jumpers post their view on the glide ratio achieved based on opening point and altitude? Kris. P.S: Robi replied to your PM

There is a picture in the latest newsletter and some description. Kris.

Cool!! It sounds like it is later than sooner, I may be able to make it. If we reach 60 it will be the first 3 plane flock. Kris.

Bank holiday flocking in the UK - Who's Flying ???
KrisFlyZ replied to freeatlast's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Can't be there this weekend but I will be in the UK(London) on 03-Jun-05 and I will be making a few flights that weekend. I'll will be happy to fly with you. I don't know which DZ we are going to yet. Just PM me and I'll keep you in the loop. Kris. P.S: where was your avatar pic taken? -
Just some photos from the weekend at Skydive Chicago

That's Sarah. She works in the loft at SDC and she's on a 4way team that trains here. -
You may already know this Tom, but I am pretty sure Ed BASE jumps also. I saw him wearing a BASE T-shirt at the Birdman Boogie in Dec 2004 and asked him. Kris.

possibly having to land in a tight landing area......... Kris.

The only DZ that I know of is in Bangalore. As someone mentioned above, Santosh was working there and as of my latest communication with him, he said he had quit working at the DZ. I don't know if the DZ is operational. Most skydiving is done by the Armed forces personnel. I am going to Bangalore in the next few days to check out a possible BASE site(cliff with a 600m vertical facel). I will find out of the DZ is Open. Kris.

The Qutub Minar is 238' but since it decreases in width as you go up. Kris.

There are some jumpable antennas in India. The one I have been investigating even has a big landing area. Antennas are not the big thing in India but more and more are coming up. Landing areas would be a problem if the antenna is near the city. The one I have attached a picture of is on the outskirts but has a 10' boundary wall with Barbed wire. India would be the place to get some cliff and big wall jumps in. If you get hurt, you are probably in tough luck. Not because there are no doctors to fix you, there are plenty. You can't get to the hospital in time if you are jumping in a remote area and are seriously screwed up. No lifeflight. Kris.

Do you know of anyone that has BASE jumped in India? I searched this forum and Jasmin mentioned some footage from India in the video 'Stupid BASE'. If you have jumpd in India or know someone that did please PM me. Kris.

I usually pull between 3-4k. In a wingsuit it is closer to 4k. I do not mind pulling lower if the situation demands(hop-pops, balloon jumps, boogies) but no point pulling at 2.5K everytime. Kris.

Congrats!! Kris.

What is the S3S? I don't see any info on bird-man.com about it. Kris.

You rock too!! I miss you so much. Wish you could come back. I cannot come to the USA for a while. If you are travelling to Europe let me know. I should be there for the next year or two starting next month. Kris.

Walmart sells lights that look like glosticks that use a couple of batteries(Button type). No issue with stains and also much cheaper in the long run. I don't know if Tonto is talking about the same thing though. I mostly jump wingsuits but ocassionaly jump without the wingsuit as well. Kris.

How can you make an air skills evaluation if you don't see the student jump? Watch with binoculars? Or did I misunderstand your statement? Looks like two mutually exclusive statements to me. 1) The student jumps solo after being briefed by the instructor. 2) Before handing out the instructor rating, the candidate's air skills are evaluated. Kris.

Definately not talking about me. Kris.
