  1. Why would you refer to Palestine? Jesus lived in Judea.
  2. Pakistan is not an Arab nation. Where do you get the idea Pakistan will cede Kashmirri territory? I am far from an expert on the area, but I thought they wanted some of India's current share. (By current share I mean the territory occupied by the militaries of the respective countries.
  3. UHM, all it really shows is that you should read your posts and headings before you hit the button.
  4. Why did the cop ID check the passenger?
  5. These laws will solve the problem in exactly the same way the prohibition laws solved the alchohol problem. On the other hand if we did it at the same time we reform the drug laws we could see a less violent downsizing of the narcotics industry. The gangsters could just move more heavily into usery instead of fighting over a smaller drug pie.
  6. Should provide a nice opportunity for non-tariff barriers to trade.
  7. I have heard people telling students that a tandem pair will get to terminal in x seconds without the drogue where x is a smaller number than 12. I wonder if they are talking about "regular" terminal (174ft/sec). Usually they are people not worth arguing with so I don't. That said I JP just said it in the other thread and I do consider him worth arguing with.
  8. A judge usurping the prerogatives of the legislature (and in this case the voters directly) is no different than the cop usurping the prerogatives of the judge.
  9. So I am confused. It takes about 12 seconds for a solo belly flyer to reach terminal; if it takes only 11 seconds for a tandem pair to reach tandem terminal (~50%) faster does that not imply a discontinuous second deriviative of speed/time?
  10. Re: [nigel99] Tandem student and instructor injured, Cottonwood, Arizona, 7th May 2006 [In reply to] Quote | Reply You're exactly right. It takes nearly 11 seconds to get to tandem terminal more than enough time to react to having no drogue.
  11. Re: [Lucky...] Tandem student and instructor injured, Cottonwood, Arizona, 7th May 2006 [In reply to] Quote | Reply Quote By the time you figure you can't find it, you're probably near terminal amyway (esp if you have a heavy student), I don't believe that is correct. Acceleration is constant regardless of weight, and if anything it should take slightly longer to reach terminal with a higher density as the terminal will be a higher. P.S. I am commenting on the physics not how quickly it takes to find a drogue as I haven't got a clue on that front.
  12. Would you be more or less disturbed if they banned the Comunist Party club? Just wondering.
  13. I would take issue with Rob's last statement. Most Canadian dropzones take students in at age 16. The CSPA prohibits under 16 and reccomends 18.
  14. Thanks for the offer, but I am a little long in the tooth for smokejumping (besides not being legal to work).
  15. So the college kid racing the Porsche daddy bought for him will pay $50.00 while the secretary driving 42 in a 35 will pay $100.00. Nice.
  16. Sounds like a great idea for at least a 3rd DUI conviction and so on. People who continue to drink and drive after the first or second conviction will never learn their lesson, until drastic measures are taken. If it's a prized Porsche or BMW, too bad. I think the finance companies have a problem with that. JMHO I think the finance companies have a problem with that.
  17. Well the good news is you can travel to just about any country in the world and that kind of justice is present. Usually for a lot less money than you pay for it in the US.
  18. So do the major manufacturers (PD, Icarus, Aerodyne) actually pay for the testing and certification?
  19. Yup it does depend upon your point of view. Myself, I pay taxes so I don't have to live in a world of street justice. I prefer administrated justice; works for me for the most part so far.
  20. I don't think anyone has a problem with the fact that this guy got a kick in the head. The problem is that we as a society gave power to the asshole who took it upon himself to do the kicking. This has nothing to do with the guy who got kicked.
  21. Probably. I prefer however, to have the judges mete out the punishment rather than the cops.
  22. His message is not that clear, but then again since it is an advertisement maybe that was the plan.
  23. Stop resisting! Stop it! Stop resisting now!
  24. Situational ethics? That’s deciding what’s right or wrong depending on the situation, But when the only variable is race, color, or religion what do we call that? Sorry I just think your trying to find a more nice and expectable to say racists. Situational ethics is not ethics at all but hypocrisy. What am i missing? You are missing the basic form of chauvinism; us verses them. The fact that Iraqis are brown has fuck all to do with it. The real reason these situations are different in people's minds is because they are not Americans. If I recall my history the Japanese were not the only people put to death for their treatment of white people during WWII. The Germans (can't get much more white than a Nazi) were as well.
