  1. Seriously, some are arguing he should be added to The List. Why not? He intended to survive with his homemade gear. Not the first guy to go in that way. Because he was a kid it wasn't a particularly feasible attempt, but have you ever seen some of the contraptions people were using 100 years ago off bridges and cliffs?
  2. It's the fault of video games! It's the fault of wrestling! Kids have been jumping off the roof with homemade parachutes since I was a kid. Kind of unfortunate about the 13 story building part. Usually the garage roof just yielded a broken arm or choler bone.
  3. Nope. But damn, the first time it happened talk about a stink. In fact, what if he sent in a hit order on that zodiac full of armed men--who turned out to be French commandos on an anti-piracy mission? Unfortunate consequences of being in a war zone. Not the first friendly fire death, not the last. Fishermen need to stay the fuck away from the shipping lanes.
  4. They're Xe, which sounds like the American pronounciation of the letter "Z," now. Xe (nee Blackwater) announced their intention do that last October. They haven't had much success, however. /Marg Well they probably won't have much success as long as they are being crowded out by the taxpayer funded US (and others) Navy.
  5. Really? I hadn't heard that. I thought the big issue was local laws prohibiting them from pulling into port with weapons on board. I have never heard this. When I worked offshore their was a high powered rifle on the bridge (for polar bears). I am sure a Port Captain's lock on the weapons locker would be suffice in most if not all ports.
  6. The economics of shipping mitigate away from wolf packing. However in today's economy the extremely tight timelines may not be quite as urgent as they often are (no contract on the other end to hurry to, customer willing to wait if you help the price). We may see escorted convoys become more prevalent.
  7. You mean it is more economical to sail around the horn of Africa with security subsidized by the American taxpayer than it is to pay Suez fees. If these companies have to provide their own security the canal doesn't look quite so expensive.
  8. Since the baby boomers were restricted largely to the first world I don't give this theory much credence.
  9. Ya know.. I think there are a "FEW" other navies of the world that just MIGHT have a stake in this. One would think that with the diversity of the ships being affected "their" countries navies might have a stake in protecting them. So far the French and Indian Navies seem to have been pretty successful in their encounters.... I wonder where the rest might be????? HMMMMMM There are several Navies in the area, but being close enough to prevent a capture is hit and miss. Very few countries have carriers.
  10. I realize the US navy has a full plate of commitments but if there was a carrier in the area could F-18s not deploy in time to intercept most hijacking attempts in time to sink the pirate vessel before they capture the cargo ship?
  11. As far as I can tell the FARs do not prevent you from using another main, and have not since the "experimental" thing came off. There is a strong argument that Strong Enterprises efforts amount to predatory trade practices.
  12. Sounds to me like they just used this as a nice low threshold exercise to familiarize the CinC with ROEs in a real life scenario.
  13. Start by killing all his progeny.
  14. What makes a good fleet? Skydive Arizona has the largest fleet. I have never experienced or heard of maintenance issues, there is never a problem with not enough people to make it go. I am not sure how anyone else can argue theirs is better.
  15. My guess is that it will be successful. The adoption of the Y-strap afterwards will be presented as a tacid admission of a deficient design.
  16. I think that was when I first understood the true meaning of sin. I knew it was wrong, but I was hoping Kharlamov was gone for the series so bad anyway. I would rank that up there as one of the most despicable acts committed in a hockey arena. Your reaction really sums it up nicely. Are you talking about this hit by Bobby Clarke in the 1972 Summit Series? The video says the name is Pospisil...unless this isn't the hit you're referring to. I'd hate to think that there's a hit worse than this one. Nope This is the only one I can find. It isn't very good.

  18. It is early, but so far we are up for the year over last year. The place we really see the recession is on the packing floor; a lot of people are eager to earn money at the dz.
  19. While there are some people who are complete abolitionists, I think the debate is generally contaminated by those who equate any talk of gun control with gun abolition. I don't think you should be allowed to have a cannon in the city. I think David Koresh probably had more guns than was reasonable. I think minors should have restrictions (positive parental controls) over gun ownership. Gun control is a very slippery slope, but that is not a sufficient reason to not consider the pros and cons.
  20. Well he did get a rise. He was booed off the stage in Toronto last night and the CBC is reporting that the Boxmasters have canceled the rest of their Canadian dates.
  21. Take a big jar. Tape a list of things you want to buy on it. Every day put a five dollar bill in the jar. When you want a cigarette, look at the jar and read the list. Make the first couple of things worth less than $50.00 so you can feel the results fairly quickly. Smile, you are not a slave.
  22. I can hardly wait for the Nafta highway. Torreon to Portage Le Prairie, that will rock the world.
  23. A slap to the face of anyone who goes to church. Well, anyone who goes to a small minded, hatefull church anyway. http://lesbianlife.about.com/od/spirituality/a/UCC.htm
  24. Poorly worded survey. I doubt the answers could be considered unbiased.
