Lonely Feelings in Skydiving
Andrewwhyte replied to darkwing's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If the others just made it across then you were the smart one. -
The high we have been enjoying is just starting to break down. The visibility really deteriorated from one load to the next today. Hopefully this will change the weather right down the coast (not that we're complaining about the sunshine).

That's my new wallpaper.

Emily Carr was a prolific painter and author early last century. The Emily Carr School of design in Vancouver should have lots on her.

There is no bad knowledge, only bad uses. -
It's only 12 degrees here, but I'm OK with it. I'm going to go make a jump in a few minutes and enjoy the sun,.. oh, did you mean faranheight? Sorry, that must really suck.

When I visited Scotland about fifteen years ago I triedto order whiskey on ice; the bartender flat out refused. He gave me my whiskey in a glass neat and pointed to the water jug. When I complained that the water wasn't cold he responded "Aye; ice is to kill the taste of that crap you drink in America. Same reason you have to chill your beer."

It seems kinda strange with the characters speaking in American accents.

Should have been in Incidents, but....
Andrewwhyte replied to efs4ever's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Sorry about your finger but you can expect more of the same unless you always expect someone to do that at any time. Just because it's obvious to you that you, and you alone, should be opening the door does not mean it's obvious to everyone else. Don't put your finger there -

Has anyone flown with a tandem container recently?

I checked one in Vancouver-O'hare-JAX on United/United regional last month. No problem. -
Anyone know how to rescend a Regional Director?

Stand up like a man and make your accusations or shut the fuck up. -
When do you convert from whuffo to skydiver
Andrewwhyte replied to Superman32's topic in The Bonfire
Being a whuffo is about not getting it. I did a tandem today (both Riggerrob and I had frosted over goggles). My student was jacked. She will never ever say 'whuffo you jump?' She knows! Therefore she is no longer a whuffo. You do not earn your way; you do not need to pay your dues. You either know why the birds sing, or you don't. -
I can honestly say that whether I got any or not on the first date has never really affected how I felt the next day (well, say after lunch the next day). If I like someone and she doesn't put out, I really want some of that; if I like someone and she does put out, I really want more of that, Similarly If am ambivalent, I'm probably not going to call regardless.

Your not supposed to kill the little guys? Where's the fun in that?

Yah, I came up to a bus stop somewhere in London. My bus was there and there was this line up (sorry, this queue), neat as could be. So I joined the line. A minute later the bus left. Goddamn rule obsessed English were lined up for some bus that wasn't even there yet!

If it is so busy that ATC cannot fit you in then too bad for you. However, if ATC systematically gives some VFR traffic priority over other VFR traffic, they can be called to task. IFR traffic always has the right of way, but they are not usually the problem. ATS is a large bureaucracy and one you don't want to go to war with. That doesn't mean you have to accept their whims either.
-
Unless you can point out this exclusion in the FARs I would doubt it. ATC will always try to tell you shit like that in order to simplify their lives, but ATC does not make policy. In Canada we tend to have far fewer access rights than in the US, but we have been jumping onto a tower controlled airport for fifteen years.

???? pencil sharpeners aren't limited to certain hands Yes they are. They don't work if you spin them the other way.

We went out to dinner at a Russian restaurant late last year with about fifty skydivers and friends. I have this vague recollection of holding an empty carraf over my head, yelling at the waiter, "Another jar of vodka please!"

any requirements for jumping from a helicopter?
Andrewwhyte replied to Brian425's topic in The Bonfire
It helps if it is airborne. -
In Canada right now same sex marriage is on the top of the political agenda. The leader of the Conservative Party recently said (effectively) "If we allow this what's next? Polygamy?" Within 48 hours an islamic woman was on national TV saying "Why not?" Her argument was succinct and well thought out. Among her points was that Islam has never embraced enforced monogamy, that this was a Christian ideal, 'but the bible is full of examples of polygamy; Aberham being a notable example.' Another culture not acquainted with the practice of monogamy is the Inuvialuit of Canada's western Arctic. The summer homes of these people was often a roundhouse type of building built out of driftwood. There was a central fire pit with a series of six to ten alcoves, one per nuclear family. The men raised all the children of their wife as their own, but slept with all the women of the community regularly. In a society that had towns of twenty to two hundred people that were separated by hundreds of miles and no venerial disease this only makes sense. Uncared for children are not much of a problem in villages of this size. Genetic diversity is. Neither the biblical, nor the ancient Eskimo arguments, however, take into account modern VD rates.
