  1. The only time I care about whether extended health care covers skydiving is when I am examining my out of country coverage.
  2. As far as I know there is no such thing as a Canada Government health card. Do you mean an Ontario Health Insurance Program (OHIP) card? If you have that and a secondary insurance program from your employer, another secondary policy is almost certainly not worth the money. In Canada secondary insurance is for things like dental work, alternative therapy such as chiaropractic or massage therepy, drug bills not covered by medicare, and perks such as semi private rooms in the hospital. In the event you are faced with astronomical bills such as MS or Cancer, your OHIP will cover it, it is limitless coverage. There may be one or two things your private coverage covers that your other two does not, but it is unlikely to be worth the money.
  3. If you are serious send me a PM. I am moving to Beiseker next week. My roommate has a place available (he's a jumper, large apt, good rent,
  4. Star wars conventions are for dorks! Everyone at the latest Highlander convention agreed. (tinfoil swords are so cool.)
  5. Britsh humour eh? hmm,.. Oh! you mean the food?
  6. I didn't realize that the policy still existed. So why the fuck do we have to put up with these refugee cowards,.. err claiments up here in Canada? Why don't they just announce that they are gay and demand to be released as per US law? Oh well at least the current law precludes the draft ever being reinstated.
  7. I went to the Canadian training centre a couple of years ago. I started with a class of 16 students in the IFR program. Four were ultimately successful in getting their license (not me). The same day 16 others started the VFR program. 14 of them are now working with their license. These are typical success rates for the two programs. The VFR controllers are earning about 60% what the IFR controllers are making at a class two tower (sleepy). They can bid to busier towers and if they are successful at a class 5 (Toronto or Vancouver) they will earn 95% what an IFR controller will make. If they are not, they go back to their old job. Furthermore they can request IFR training later and be paid to take it. If they are unsuccessful they still have their license for the VFR job. It still bugs me that I can't do it, but when I was in control on the simulators, it was so cool.
  8. Making english the official language does not prohibit people from speaking any other language. All it does is lay out the language for government work. Here in BC there are many people who speak punjabi, cantonese or manderin exclusively (to name a few). There are many worksites that use these or other languages. The fact that english is the official language just means that government correspondance comes in english (english and french for areas of federal jurisdiction) and they can't use language as an excuse for ignoring it. Immigrants or second and third generation West Virginians who wish to carry out their private affairs in another language will still be able to.
  9. If discerning the illegal from the legal traffic was not burdonsome to the economy as a whole, we would not be having this discussion; the problem would have been dealt with long ago.
  10. I was using km/hr because the distance you provided was in km. Just as you used miles and mi/hr not mi and ft/sec
  11. My point is that every time homeland security or whoever makes the border harder to cross, trade suffers. Free trade makes American goods duty free coming into Canada and going to the US. Border restrictions are threatening that advantage. The talk up here is increasingly about finding new markets to replace US customers because the border is getting harder and more expensive to cross. PD stopped shipping demos into Canada not long ago because of border hassles (I believe they have restored them since). Vancouver is a border town. Crossing the line to get gas or to pop into Cosco for a case of Red Bull used to be normal; today less so. Soon I will have to bring a passport to visit Blaine Wa. Americans will not need a passport to visit us, but will need one to go home (same effect). As I'm sure you are aware, many Americans do not keep a passport. When I hear people talking about locking down the border I shudder to think what will happen to the economy of the dozens of small towns along the border. These are the most noticeable effects, but the macro effects on business across the country are just as profound. The economy of the modern world depends on a smooth transfer of goods and services worldwide. A commitment to this is one of the main reasons the first world is the first world. Immigration issues are not the only ones to factor in here. Anti-terrorism measures are certainly larger, as well as the never ceasing protectionist manipulations of small minded congressmen. These costs all add up, however, as America retreats further and further from the world community. North Korea and Cuba have locked down their borders; how are their economies doing?
  12. Tony Kearns took a 100yr old in Vernon BC a couple of years ago. When he died earlier this year the headline was "skydiving senior passes."
  13. On the other hand 400km at 100km/hr is the more accurate comparison.
  14. About a 25% reduction in the GNP of the country. If the US is going to continue to be a member of the modern world, simplistic solutions like that are not viable.
  15. Imperial units are not easier; they are merely more familiar to some. There is a difference.

I'm not sure but I think it has to do with the whole materialism concept embodied in the song 'subdivisions.' The first time I saw them was at a hockey rink at the University of Moncton in New Brunswick in 1978. My ticket was a generic beer ticket style ticket that said 'admit one.'
  17. Europe used to enjoy that homogenaity; it was called the dark ages.
  18. I did IAD. They told me static line was old fashioned and obsolete; that was twenty years ago.
  19. If the police tackle unsuspecting civilians and drag them away without talking to them just because they look suspicious, this better be in the news. There are countries where this happens and it doesn't get reported; you don't want to live in one of those countries.
  20. I found the EVO to be too short from front to back when it fits from side to side (I've never noticed Italians to have short fat heads). My Z1 fits fine.
  21. If you are spinning about your centre of gravity when you dump, you will have line twists. If you are revolving about your canopy, it is much less likely. If you have line twists but have stopped winding up when you cut away, it is as relevent as the colour of your end cells.
  22. It starts as rum and coke, then rum easy coke, then rum and a splash of coke, next thing I know (about 2 hours later max) someone is helpingme into a cab. I voted devil's drink.
