Nah, you don't owe beer, she does (not just to you but to the DZ). -
How to get the most out of your landing...
Andrewwhyte replied to mailin's topic in Safety and Training
The part of my first jump course that is forgotten the most by my students is, 'EYES ON THE HORIZON.' Are you looking down when you are on short final? The more problems you have landing, the more nervous you are on final, the more likely you are to look down, the more likely you are to screw up your landing. So relax and keep your head up. Trust me it will work. -
For the record: TSO'd gear is not manditory in Canada by decree of either Transport Canada or CSPA. CSPA's equipment doctrine mandates two canopies. Minimum opening altitude for A CoPs or higher is 2200'. It is not the law but it is the rule at our DZ. If you break the min opening BSR, your insurance is not valid, if your insurance is not valid you may not jump, therefore, open your damn parachute.

YOU ARE SO BUSTED.

Why not conscript all illegal aliens caught by INS for three years?

When dealing in large volumes of water, the Americans use acre-feet.
-
Ohh wait, did you mean a metre? It is the unit of measurement for distance used everywhere except the US and Myanmar; nice company. It's easy to compute though, just take the length of one hectre that is square in shape and divide by one hundred.

Something that tells the electrical company how many dope plants are in the house.

Hey Hey Susan Dey! How many kids did you kill today?
Andrewwhyte replied to BillyVance's topic in Speakers Corner
The original chant was from the sixties anti-war movement directed at president Johnson, maybe from the Chicago DNC: "HEY, HEY LBJ HOW MANY KIDS DID YOU KILL TODAY" -
One reason is to keep yourself square into the relative wind during inflation. This allows your canopy to open as it is intended. Sometimes your canopy opens abnormally quickly. If your head is turned to one side on that day you will have a very sore neck. If you are waiting five seconds I am presuming you are doing low level (not AFF jumps). If you are at terminal velocity when you dump, most people wait a bit less time than that because you are right, at terminal, a lot of altitude would be consumed.

What's this walk shit? When we're busy we run ~200 metres to the hangar ('course someone else picks up the rig).

Offically rationing is based upon need. If I have a broken leg that is ok the way it is but yours will cause permanent damage if not reset today, you go first. In reality the system is an implicitly navigated one based upon ones ability to lobby the system (education and contacts) as well as economic considerations. Olympic athletes do not wait. We do have some private clinics in BC. These are used by athletes on national teams as well as pros, the wealthy and those covered by Workers Compensation Board or auto insurance companies. If waiting two months for an MRI will cost the insurance co. $6000 they will pay $1500 for the MRI tomorrow. The same is true for some surgeries.

You are correct that our twin does not do low passes on the way up. As we were talking about IADs I was specifically thinking Cessna. Dispatching h/pers from an Otter/CASA is not an issue I've given a lot of thought to as we don't use them; you are probably right in those cases. If you are dispatching from the front facing jm position or the rear facing jm spot in a Cessna, getting the rear facing/behind the pilot student in position to get one top snap done up is a cumbersome task. It likely involves moving the centre of gravity aft. If the departing jumper has damaged the tail or there is a canopy hanging off it. I believe your chances are approaching nil. If there are other jumpers in the plane, they will not share your imperative to save the passenger at all costs. The standard drill for a crippled aircraft is for everyone to leave immediately. If you are moving the wrong way i.e. from the door toward the interior, you may encounter other jumpers trying to force their way past you. PS My crack about leaving without the passenger was inappropriate. I apologize
-
I am really surprised to hear you say that Chuck. Are you willing to exit with tandem at 3000 in a non-emergency? or willing to leave without your passenger in an emergency? If not I do not understand how you can be willing to have the door opened for any reason at that altitude. If I have a tandem on board the door may not open before 6000 for anyone. If you have a customer who cannot leave the plane, you better make sure the pilot rig stays on the ground.

Watch your gear, especially on the last day of the boogie.

What's this "when we were kids bit?" We have a contract to light up a park at Vancouver International Airport every Christmas. Between Riggerrob and myself we climb about 120 trees every year. The sight of Riggerrob (all 200lbs of him) sitting atop a sixty foot tree in the wind is downright scary.
-
Not as it stands in the US. A tadems student IS a tandem student. We treat them as such. Even if its not a Cat A or Cat B tandem, its still an intorductory tandem with training, similar to an introductory flight for someone wanting to persue their pilots license. There sure are a lot of 'students' violating the headgear BSR these days.

I give up. Learn how to read If that is true, there is no need for further legislation.

If the liability laws as written allow this then they should be rewritten, not patched haphazardly like a Microsoft product. I agree. Loser pays all costs is the best way to stop this type of hijacking of the judicial system for political ends without creating a regime where the rules are specifically different for those with lobbying power. Abandoning the concept of strict liability is another.
-
Why the hell not? People sue over hot coffee. That's my point. The problem is not the application of the liability laws to guns, its the ridiculous laws as written. Congress wants to exempt gun makers, GWB is pushing to limit their application against doctors. Sooner or later people have to tell the pols to dig their heads out of their asses and deal with the problem wholesale.
-
Because they were brought into it by special exemption. Could you elaborate. What are they exempted from so that congress is now considering a bill to exempt them from?
-
I wasn't aware that congress passed a law exempting baseball bat makers from product liability laws. Do you know the bill number?
