  1. I met a guy several years ago who did 1000 jumps his first year in the sport. He was a kick-ass sit flier (sit flying was just in its infancy) and was flying his canopy hard too. The problem was that while he had taught himself to be quite skilled under canopy, he hadn't learned much from the mistakes of others because he hadn't learned much about what had happened in the past. He had two serious landing accidents in short succession (after taking time out to heal from the first one) and had to retire from the sport. maybe he would have still gotten hurt if he had spent a couple of years around the fire prior to becoming a hot canopy pilot, but he has always been emblematic of the pitfalls of lots of jumps but not a lot of time in the sport. This is why Strong and UPT have minimum time in the sport requirements for the tandem rating. As for the 15 year 500 jump guy; The fact that they are over thirty slows them down a bit but they are just as dangerous.
  2. I disagree. Get one rating and just use that one for at least 2 or 3 hundred jumps. Jumping back and forth between systems is not great at the best of times due to the different handle locations and procedures; it is especially not the way to go when you are new to tandem. Your best bet will probably be the Strong rating if that is what they have at your DZ.
  3. She is an evangelical Christian. By definition that faith requires evangelism. Yes she is a missionary.
  4. What is wrong with that? Isn't that the premise of all missionary work? Don't the Muslims want us to all be Muslims? I know that as an atheist I think the world would be a better place if we were all atheists; in fact I'm sure of it.

  6. What? No threats of making us watch The Red Green Show? Uhm, you guys already watch that one.
  7. Still haven't created life yet, but they're getting closer.
  8. Andy it's not too late! You can still proclaim yourself to be a supporter of,... AMERICA'S TEAM. That's right, if you want to be like a true American you can cheer the Cowboys on to victory. They even have a star on their helmet.
  9. What is it that I don't understand? But why European, Asian and Canadian companies buying US stock at a record pace? True. But the fact that foreign companies are loading up at a record pace is indicative of their sentiment, don't you think? This is a one way stat. The story talks about the Canadian Bank of Commerce buying a US bank; The Canadian press just talks about Alcoa buying Alcan, which is a much larger transaction the other way. If net movements were to the selling of US capital assets then the net movement on the currency would be positive; foreigners need to purchase US currency in order to complete thes large transactions.
  10. You are reading the chart backwards Amazon.
  11. I have about two hundred jumps on the 366. The toggle pressure is similar to the 365, perhaps a bit higher. The problem is it really does not want to shut down. If you flare it similar to a 400 for a slide in landing it levels off very nicely but you have a lot of forward speed in a low wind environment. If you flare high, as you can nicely on the Icarus, on this you get that stally-surgey thing at a fairly high speed and neither standing nor sitting are great; if you have ever come out of a hook too high on a Stiletto you will know what I mean. I have found that a two stage flare helps on no wind days; start burning off airspeed at about 30ft and you still have lots of flare left at the bottom. The max recommended weight on the panel is 450lbs and, having exceeded it once or twice, I think they mean it. It still levels off nicely but the airspeed is so high that a mistake will likely result in injury. On balance if I never see another SET 400 that will suit me fine. I am enjoying the 366.
  12. I'm guessing that you are too young to remember a recession. I think the US is in for a recession; a stiff one. That however is a far cry from an economic collapse.
  13. There are a lot of variables: Narrow bodies climb faster than wide bodies. Bigger engine. Wing tip extensions. Speed brakes. Take off altitude. Exit altitude. Pilot skill. What time does the sun set? In general 20 loads to altitude is a long hard day for one pilot.
  14. Oh, so now it's about hating the oceans, Mother Earth (Gaea) and hating milk producing animals. Can't you people link cause and effective with unintended consequences? Won't somebody think of the children? of animals? You're way off base with that. If it makes America safer, then I'm for it.
  15. Why don't you just admit that your middle name is Mohamed?
  16. You don't seem to be able to tell the difference between natural thread progression and a tangent. Maybe if you actually read the posts before responding you wouldn't look so stupid
  17. By the way, when you get to Vancouver,...the Eagles will still suck.
