Costs are not part of the puchaser's decision; prices are part of the demand function, costs are part of the supply function. When a cost is not part of the supply function it is called an externality and is problematic for the robustness of the free market model since it violates the assumption of perfect information. For example if Billvon erects solar panels on a tower in his yard and the shade kills his neighbour's tomato garden the value of the tomatoes is external to his production costs (unless he internalized the cost by compensating the neighbour). If he sells you the power the value of the tomatoes has nothing to do with your consumption decision. You are ignorant of the cost absorbed by the neighbour; this is where the perfect information problem comes in. One way to internalize environmental costs connected with energy consumption is by creating a carbon tax, another is tradeable emission credits such as those being created for the purpose of Kyoto compliance. Both of these systems are problematic, but probably both are superior to variable standard solutions such as banning one product but allowing another.

The only violent mal I have ever had on a tandem was on a 2nd or third jump SET 400. Upon inspection Riggerrob found kinks in two adjacent lines which in his opinion pointed to a tension knot. I think they were easier to see because he lines were new but you could have a look if the canopy is still in the loft.

Does your DZ use SOS systems for student progression?
Andrewwhyte replied to WatchYourStep's topic in Instructors
Edmonton Skydive Centre in northern Alberta uses SOS on our student gear. We are the only DZ in the province to do so. We have two transition rigs that have two handle systems. The result of all this is that we inevitably get students who learn on one system, move to the other, and then back. In theory they start on SOS and then transition to TOS but the reality is otherwise; other DZs' students transfer to us, Our students visit other DZs when they are traveling and then come back to us, students are transitioned to the TOS but then throw on a student rig because of transition rig availability. Quite frankly it scares the shit out of me. We will be converting to TOS this off season. -
Skydiving Fatality Statistics
Andrewwhyte replied to PabloCruz2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You are correct; there is no statistical model for any problem that is absolutely robust. There is no weather forecasting model that always works. There is no set of safety rules that takes into account all situations. There is no first jump course information that will give our students flawless advice in all situations. Does that mean we should not use any of these tools? -
Skydiving Fatality Statistics
Andrewwhyte replied to PabloCruz2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you are looking for statistics to bolster a position you have already formed (such as the one you stated above) then Andy's opinion of statistics is certainly pertinent. If you really want statistical evidence of skydiving safety you need to approach the problem with an open mind; you need to be willing to accept evidence that skydiving is not as safe as you thought or hoped it was. -
Skydiving in different countries?
Andrewwhyte replied to Blassiter's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Your USPA licence is sanctioned by the FAI; it should work in all skydiving countries. What will not always work is your USPA membership; UK for example will require you to take out a temporary BPA membership. -
Fuck ya! Fix the opium problem the same way they fixed the marijuana problem with the paraquat program back in the day; you don't see any of that shit anymore eh?

The first 100 way was in 1986.

If it seems overly loose take it to the rigger who packed it; he has a scale and a device to prevent accidental deployment while he checks. There is an accepted range of pull tension for a reserve. If yours is outside that range he can sort that for you. If he wants to charge you you need a new rigger.

It's not a Jewish conspiracy; I never said it was; I didn't. But if dig deep enough, (Andrew looks over his shoulder)[whispering] It's the Jews. [/whispering] -

Andrewwhyte replied to livetofall's topic in Speakers Corner
I was responding to your ridiculous connection between a "none dare call it conspiracy" nutbar website story, and a real or imagined increase in short positions on the public markets during a period of correction, and concluding that we should run for the hills as armageddon is upon us. -
If they are in training the TE should insist they do gear up by the book. The book is to tighten the back strap before the MLWs and leg straps. Well why didntcha say so? It don't count then! Good beer in that region though! Sure it does. UPTs standards are minimums for any course anywhere in the world (assuming that is a vector harness).

It's called a recession and you may or may not get one. -
If they did that it would seriously affect the amount of money a candidate could effectively spend; this would curtail the election industry greatly. It would also lessen the amount of power the contributors hold over the candidates who now can win without raising quite so much money. We can't have that now can we?

Sports Headline - WWE Suspends 10 Wrestlers for Doping
Andrewwhyte replied to lawrocket's topic in The Bonfire
You are correct; it is a sports parody; it is theatre of the absurd with sports as the subject; to call WWE a sport is to call The Sandbox weight lifting. -
Send them a registered letter stating that you do not owe them the money, that they must either proceed directly to the courts or cease and desist, and that if you suffer any injury to your credit as a result of this that you will seek redress from the courts. I have gotten faux creditors off my ass a couple of times this way.

Deploying while standing on a wing
Andrewwhyte replied to Duckwater's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I believe GWHB did it on his first jump, but he hit the tail. -
Lots of tandems on Saturday but this is licence weekend. Gonna spend the rest of my time jumpin' with the juniors.
-
You didn't leave any room on your poll for any ambiguity; I don't like skyride or the creators, but that doesn't mean I have a hate on for my brothers and sisters that jump there. Most of them started there, they have fun when they go there, and they are going to continue to go there. Some people have enough drama in their life away from the DZ that they actually go skydiving to get away from the politics and drama. Crazy huh?
-
Why did you preface that item as news; it was clearly an editorial.

You just posted this to make the bonfire thread page NSFW didn't you?
