Spelling lessons from an American; now that's funny.

What kind of right wing tripe will we get to read here in SC today.
Andrewwhyte replied to Amazon's topic in Speakers Corner
Must be 'going native.' What with all that tripe you're eating. -
That's how it's spelled.

Get over it. My last name is spelled the stupid english way most of the time I see it in print. I had one boss who spelled it wrong on my paycheque for years. The money still went into my account so what do I care.

One problem is the concept that bullying can and should be eliminated. Bullying is a normal part of the social structure; it exists in the work place, the rec centre, the neighbourhood meetings, yes even the drop zone. The goal of the school should be to impede bullying and prevent it from becoming physical as well as teaching kids how to deal with it; the concept of our kids growing up in a world absent of intimidation is nonsense. If we could produce such an environment kids leaving a school would be unprepared for the rest of the world. Suing the school board because there is a bully at school is like suing them because there are drugs in the school (or suing the DZ because there was an idiot on my load). This is why 'tag' is a forbidden activity at some schools now, others have a ban on physical contact. The cure to one problem will cause many more serious problems in the long run as our schools become less and less functional as social organs of our society.

I think this is a very tenuous thread the plaintiffs are clinging to here. Regardless what our personal feelings may be toward the WBC, the ramifications of a successful lawsuit would be large. It seems to me that if the WBC can be sued for their actions, so can pro-life demonstrators who emotionally damage both women using the clinic as well as the staff. Environmentalists can be accused of emotionally damaging loggers on their way to work, and what about those who yell "scab" at replacement workers?

The US dollar is so cheap right now you really should take a look at flying to Florida, California or Arizona. As far as I know the prices have not gone up at the big schools or tunnels yet.

Do experienced skydivers jump without AAD?
Andrewwhyte replied to Hagen's topic in Safety and Training
There have been a few posters here with a lot of experience saying they chose not to have one. There has not been one I have seen so far that said they have one that they refuse to turn on. In the US it is your choice to own one or not. That is a very different decision from owning one and not turning it on. I do a 270 turn for landing under my Stiletto whenever possible; I never worry about my opener; I am simply not going fast enough. If these guys are swooping cross-braced canopies doing more than 360 degree moves for landing they may not want to turn on an older AAD. However since they are required to spend the money on an AAD you would think they would spend the small amount it costs to upgrade to a Cypres2 or Argus. If they really are refusing to turn it on just to be macho, well yes, they are idiots. -
About five years ago I got to see the Martin Mars in action. It was about an hour before sunset in July at the Pitt Meadows DZ outside Vancouver. The Okanagan Valley about 150 miles to the east was having a bad fire season and a lot of people were losing their homes. The Mars was returning from the fires back to Sprout Lake on Vancouver Island before dark. She flew over the DZ ever so slowly like a mythical beast. As we watched I noticed the smoke from a new fire at the University of British Columbia research forest located about 6 or 7 miles from the DZ. I thought it would be cool as well as useful if the passing relic could stop and put out the fire seeing as there is a lake located conveniently right beside the forest. Well someone else thought so too as the beast, that was quite a way to the west by now, made a slow turn and did a fly-by the fire. This was followed by a dip down to the lake for water, a practice run over the fire while she waited for the bird-dog plane to arrive and then one majestic sweep across the by then not insubstantial fire. That was it for the fire; the Martin Mars continued on her way home for the night without so much as a waggle of her wings and the tinder dry research forest slowly went to sleep. I hope the old girl is as effective in the coming days as she was that night. Stay safe everyone.

I don't know what to say. I know you need to have some contact right now; to know that someone else feels something about the waves of emotion sweeping over you. You said it was an attempted suicide. That means your friend is still alive. That's a start. There is not much relief for you in the next few days or weeks but you know you can make a difference. Maybe it isn't a job you wanted or needed in your life right now but the fact that you are here means that it is your lot; you are the help. I don't think I am giving you the relief you were looking for here but hopefully I am helping you find the resolve you are going to need. Help your friend. They need you.

Or hire someone with two kids to feed who needs the work. The argument that employees who don't like the environment can go elsewhere was very prevalent during the formation of the major unions on this continent; a look at the history of the United Mine Workers of America shows this. Regardless of ones feelings about unions today most people I have met believe that the conditions in the coal mines of Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Nova Scotia etc. during the thirties were not acceptable no matter how much those men needed a job. Twenty years from now people will look back on the practice of putting our young child-bearing age women to work in smoky bars in similar light.
-
Any thoughts for the rights of the employees to work in a non-toxic environment trumping the rights of people to toxify same?

I need 11 planets but the flying time question tops out at 100hrs.

How does a newbie rigger get into the business?
Andrewwhyte replied to hackish's topic in Gear and Rigging
'bout 3000 miles apart though. -
I agree with Tom completely on this; I have never even considered removing the RSL on any tandem rig I have jumped based upon one incident. I do wish, however, you would put a Collins lanyard on the Dual Hawk.

I remember before "The Price is Right" he used to host "Truth or Consequences."

Sure, but if the lightweight one goes 3000 hrs between overhauls you are doing better than an IO550.
