  1. Call the city works yard and ask them. If that doesn't work call a tv station citydesk and tell them about the hoards of citizens who want to help clean up the city but can't. Good story for a junior reporter to hunt down.
  2. Well maybe they could if the monarchy wasn't militarily supported by this meddlesome superpower who wants their oil.
  3. Have a look here. You will see it is a pretty even split. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2918159;search_string=poll%3A%20procedures;#2918159
  4. Wow! I had no idea. Conversion costs are a bitch.
  5. Do they use a TSO system in Russia? If not do they have some other proving system?
  6. If there was a clear national government that was responsible I do not believe the C in C would wait for a national upswelling, nor should they. If a nuclear attack is not met with the same in kind the deterrence value of the nuclear arsenal would be gone. However, if it was the work of Al Queda or a similar, stateless group, I don't think the president would be able to build a case like they did for the invasion of Afghanistan. The world community does matter; they gave their enthusiastic OK to Afghanistan, and a somewhat reluctant "uh huh" to Iraq. That would not be the case for a nuclear attack.
  7. What type of member are they? Just so I'll know where to look when they do make the web-site. Will they be sending the US representatives to the world championships in the future or will that still be USPA? If so will they send reps under a non-national category?
  8. LOL ok, you're content to remain ignorant on the subject. Saves me some effort. I guess you missed the post where he said he has relatives in Islamabad and Karachi.
  9. You need to go where you are in demand. If you try to learn in the south during the winter you will probably not have much luck. With all the northerners looking for work they don't need you. During the summer there is a shortage of packers at a lot of drop zones; you stand a much better chance of someone taking you on.
  10. Expected and potentially are very different terms. Agreed.
  11. Those were not the only options. If he had a gun or a hostage then yes keep the passengers on the plane until they have resolved the issue, but one disturbed individual who is causing a scene is not justification for shutting down an international airport. i think you know as well as I do that the cops involved did not expect death to be the outcome when they tasered him. i really think this is an issue of procedure as laid out rather than procedure as implemented. The police's use of taser in place of other subduing tactics has become widespread across North America and we are seeing an increase of death during arrests as a result. That said I still appreciate that the cops had a mandate to clear that door; fuck around at a US border and see just how fast things go sideways.
  12. I am pretty sure the door he is blockading is the only one the passengers from the incoming flight are allowed to use to exit the security area; he would have held up that flight, and the one(s) behind it.
  13. I don't remember seeing an interpreter in the video. By the numbers includes deadly force on a guy who is not threatening the police? He was simply standing there when they tazed him. The thrashing on the floor isn't exactly unexpected after they've tazed him twice and he STILL doesn't know what the fuck they want. All he knows is they're hurting him. Blues, Dave There is no interpreter there. If they had gotten one they would have been Russian rather than Polish anyway. The hard fact was that they did not have time to find one. Holding up that flight from Asia was not an option warranted by this guy's actions.
  14. I worked there a couple of years ago. Jessica and Johnny are great people and Cabo is an unbelievably beautiful place to jump. Do not expect a boogie; it is a tandem service that welcomes fun jumpers. On the weekend there is a small local crowd, but most loads you will jump by yourself. They have a 150 jump minimum and demand currency. You land on the beach, but there is no reserved area. It is not beyond expectation for someone to erect a volleyball net or park a truck on your target while you are on downwind so you need to be confident under canopy. But is sure is fun.
  15. I am of mixed mind on this one. International airports are a bad place to confront police. Everybody seems to be in a heightened state of anxiety all the time. You can hear someone say "Cathay is coming in five minutes." That would be Cathay Pacific and it will be a 747. The people there really do not want 450 tired, cranky intercontinental passengers coming down that hall to meet this situation. I am not positive which side of Customs and Immigration they are on but I think they are just upstream. Effectively they have run out of time to find a translator, especially since they obviously don't know what language they are looking for. The police are there to resolve the situation, and resolve it quickly; aircraft plugging up gates, not offloading their passengers because of one minor troublemaker is not an acceptable outcome. That said using the taser was in my opinion, not appropriate. The taser was given to the police as a non-lethal replacement for deadly force. The question seems to be therefore: If the officer did not have a taser, would he have drawn his firearm at that point. The obvious answer is no. The police should have used physical force to subdue the subject. It is becoming obvious that tasers carry a real possibility of death and are not an acceptable replacement for physical take-down techniques. When you incapacitate a person you become responsible for them; the cops clearly failed to take care of this guy after he was down. Don't fuck around at international borders!
  16. Sounds like the King County WA referendum on the New Seahawks Stadium. So they have the same thing out there. did they vote it down too? what was the reactions? It's a nice facility and the 'hawks went to the Superbowl,.. what was the question?
  17. Assassination maybe No not that. Submission for war crimes trial yes. Gitmo is a war crime.
  18. I wanna know what law the cops think this guy was breaking.
  19. Poor example. In fact there aren't a lot of people who can do what the nurses do. In Canada the various provincial nurses unions are among the most militant in the country, because they can be. Every province in Canada and most states in the US are chronically short of nurses.
  20. I saw an ear needing 5 stitches from a tandem riser; he was wearing a frap hat. Put your hard shell back on.
  21. another factor not really understood is the impact of melting permafrost in Canada and Russia.
  22. Hey, it's not as bad as lining up for Krispy Kreme opening.
