Well, I guess the devil didn't cause evolution
Andrewwhyte replied to wmw999's topic in Speakers Corner
If someone believes that mankind began when god created Adam and Eve, then that's in conflict with the idea that mankind evolved from the apes. You can't have both at the same time. Did you read my post John? -

They are a growing affliction to be sure. The big irony is that the only province that is really inundated with them (Alberta) also has the continent's biggest dinosaur museum. -
what does that say about the people who voted him in? That they were apparently "left behind" and probably went through the same education program as this person. http://www.break.com/index/kelly-pickler-on-game-show1.html But she's cute! She's purdy.

Those two numbers mean that some of the people who believe in god, also believe in the theory of evolution. Explain that! It's quite simple. The majority of theists believe that God created heaven and earth, and Darwin's theory of the origin of species illuminates some of God's methods. It does not address however, the moment of creation, nor does it address the reason God created it all. Fundamentalist Protestant faiths teach that the Bible is word for word true; most theists are not Fundamentalist. -
Actually that is not true. If the employer does not pay, then they are personally liable, just like in every other industry. When Rod Mack was hurt doing a coach jump in Victoria a few years ago the fact that the DZ was not paying their premiums was between the DZO and WCB; Rod is on a pension for life and the drop zone is closed.

I only knew Skinny on here. His gregarious wit was one of the best things about coming to the bonfire. I found myself trying to justify a trip to the south this winter just to make him buy me the jump he owed me in person so I could rub his face in it. He would understand that; all Redskins fans would. The rematch in December wont be the same without the jousting between us. Maybe in heaven the Redskins don't suck. Ya, they do. BSBD

Do they mean minorities like Hindus and Buddhists? -
Oh come on Bill! After the Iraqi WMD intelligence fiasco are you suggesting that Bush change his policy based on more questionable "intel" from these clowns. Obviously the Prez needs to push ahead and pay these guys no mind.

Why are so many BOD positions filled by DZOs? Because the amount of work required for the unpaid (I assume there is some remuneration but not much) positions really only makes sense if you have your livelihood on the line. If you want a steady stream of non-DZOs to run then you have to pay them. Small town aldermen don't get paid; the result is land developers and realtors dominate small town politics. Major cities pay enough that it is a full time job. If the membership of USPA want a professional board that is not in conflict of interest, they need to be prepared to spend an additional $15.00/year or so to pay for salaries. You are undoubtedly correct. The Transport Canada bureaucrat who governs skydiving, and who is the push behind their attempts to further regulate the sport, has never made a jump. I taught him a first jump course about twelve years ago, but he did not jump. If I recall correctly he said he had a bad back. Sounds good. Doing that as a skydiving group might be a tad pricey. The truth is anyone working for pay is supposed to be covered; the fact that the "independent contractor" thing lets professional skydivers be uninsured is, in my mind, a weakness in your legislation. But that is a bigger issue and I am not an American. In Canada we are all covered by Workman's Comp. I disagree. Overall fatalities are down over time and student fatalities are way down. The way we kill ourselves is important only to us. The only thing that matters to the public is the number of times they read about it in the paper. If the FAA were involved and they decided 'something must be done.' I suspect canopy piloting as a discipline would be squashed like a bug. As far as plane crashes go. i suspect there will be fallout from the Washington crash. Even if the Farringtons had all their 'i's dotted and 't's crossed, those who routinely don't will have to re-think their policies. The truth is the FAA is already involved in regulating jump ships and pilots. They will not entertain advice from skydivers on how to regulate GA; the only change I could foresee would be to require a commercial operating certificate. The price of such a change would be the loss of several small DZs, and increased costs for everyone else that would translate into higher prices for all. I don't think five dollars per jump is too far fetched.

You can still hang out at the DZ in the winter; it will just be more cold and lonely than usual. -

conect or not...pasangers harnes during take off
Andrewwhyte replied to pete2005's topic in Instructors
I get a lot of students asking me if we are hooked up yet. I say "yes, just loosely for now," and give the lowers a tug. It serves no operational purpose in a 206, but makes the students feel better. In a narrow 182 if I am by the door I do the lowers up tight before the door closes because I cannot properly adjust them with the door closed. -

Andrewwhyte replied to lippy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No, I think we spot the same. i consider the part before the door opens a "pre-spot" that still needs to be confirmed (especially for line) by looking down after the door is open. This can be done from any position in the plane. How do you pre-spot then if your sitting on the floor next to the pilot? I'm on my knees. I can see fine. That said I have spotted from the old man spot sitting on my ass; you just have to have a good grip on the landmarks. -
There shall in that time be rumors of things going astray, erm, and there shall be a great confusion as to where things really are, and nobody will really know where lieth those little things with the sort of raffia-work base, that has an attachment. At that time, a friend shall lose his friend's hammer, and the young shall not know where lieth the things possessed by their fathers that their fathers put there only just the night before, about eight O'clock.

Andrewwhyte replied to lippy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's right. You are on your knees face to face with student #1. If you are climbing out with the student (possibly for S/L but absolutely for IAD) you stick your left foot out to block as soon as the door is open and tuck it back as you say "get ready' or what ever you say. -

Negative: The aft facing instructor is facing all his students all the time. -

Why? You stick your head out the door and look down. If this doesn't work how on earth do you teach someone else to spot? Put them in the position that doesn't work? -
2 Kings! Of course. This is obviously a reference to Tony Romo And T.O.

Just to play devil's advocate: Once citizenship is conferred it is very difficult to revoke. One reason to revoke it is if it was gained under false pretenses. The question is so that if they can prove conspiracy of sedition they can revoke citizenship. Time share sellers ask a couple of similar "trap" questions at the beginning of the process so they don't have to give the gift to those who are playing them.
