I'm ok with treating guns the way the constitution says they should be treated. Bill, if that's not comparing the fringe of one side the leadership of the other, I don't know what is. Do I need to remind you about the "Mr. ands Mrs. America, turn them all in" examples? So tell us, how many senators are advocating firearms for felons? GOA is hardly the leadership of the gun rights movement. Wasn't it you yourself that said the NRA was the only advocacy group that matters? (the "second amendment loud mouths" post) On the other hand, you list some no-name gun control group. Bill, I know you're smart enough to see through their happy little facade. The Brady Campaign describes itself in almost the exact same fashion. Are you really going to tell me the Brady bunch isn't trying to ban guns? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Actually I was thoroughly disgusted and outraged that the government (state or federal) was trying to intervene directly in the Shiavo case. The court cases were sad, the government intervention was sickening. You'll notice at least I am consistant about despising such intervention. I guess some socialists only like a government with socialist powers as long as the government agrees with them. Kinda sucks when you're on the losing end, eh? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Tell you what... The day politicians stop trying to ban guns, The day unconstitutional laws are repealed, The day the 2nd is incoprporated through the 14th and applied to the states, The day gun rights are no longer threatened, ...THEN I'll be the first in line to register my gun(s), inquire about basic militia training, and ask if there are any incentives for doing so. ps - you really need to get past the idea that "well regulated" means lots of regulations. It doesn't. It means in good working order. The first line of your post really needs to be corrected. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

US Supreme Court - is it Bound by the World Court?
Kennedy replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
You are, quite simply, wrong. The only people given a free pass for any crime they commit is a diplomat. Everyone else is subject to the laws of whatever land they are in. That means if you commit a crime you suffer the local penalty. Maybe it's getting your back broken for grafitti. Maybe it's the death penalty for murder. If you don't like it, don't visit. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
http://www.constitution.org/cons/wellregu.htm In 1781 in his Notes on the State of Virginia, Query IX, Thomas Jefferson described the militia: "Every able-bodied freeman, between the ages of 16 and 50 is enrolled in the militia. .... In every county is a county lieutenant, who commands the whole militia of his county. .... The governor is the head of the military, as well as the civil power. The law requires every militia-man to provide himself with the arms usual in the regular service." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Well, at least you and I can agree on the first sentence. The second amendment directly and clearly recognizes and individual right to keep and bear arms. However, becoming properly trained is made significantly more difficult by factions in our government passing unconstitutional laws. Afterall, it's ahrd to be trained with battle rifles when the BATFE limits who can own one, and several states outright ban their ownership. Perhaps once the government stops trying to take guns away from people, the people will be far more willing to seek guidance in proper ownership. I must disagree with your proposed chain of responsibility for stolen arms. Would you propose we hold car owners liable when their cars are stolen and used in crimes? Would it be your fault if a joyrider drove your car into a crowd? Would that homicide be your responsibility? Finally, if that "well regulated" remark is referencing the second amendment, then you must be going forgetful in your old age, professor. It's been explained to you many times that well regulated, as used by the founding fathers, refers to "in good working order." US Supreme Court - is it Bound by the World Court?

Extradition treaties have no bearing on this situation. Extradition is involved when a US law breaker flees the country, and we want to bring him back to face charges. In this case, it is a foreign national, caught and convicted of crimes in the US, being sentenced according to US law. It happens all the time, all over the world. Just look at the American kid who had to get cracked with the cane in (fillin the asian country, I don't remember). He defaced a staute and was severly beaten for it. Basically, if you commit a crime on foreign soil and they catch you, you're screwed. ps - it's not like American citizens don't disappear in foreign countries. At least this Mexican was given a fair trial with appeals. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
In, her locker? Fine. (disclaimer: not ok if affiliated in any way with terrorism: Abu Nidal, AQ, hamas, etc, just like IRA pics would not be appropriate but Sinn Fein or PLO would be OK) On her locker? Most schools don't allow anythign on the outside of lockers. Relevant to the case at hand? Not really, since the assignment was school grads at work, to be posted in a classroom, not pictuers in a locker. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I wonder who to contact with an idea... I think someone up there should have t-shirts made up with the picture on the front and back, then pass them out to students. I didn't address your question because it is irrelevant. Whether I've seen one of their caves in a mountainside, has no bearing upon how well-versed I am about the Swiss militia system. And apparently, I know more about it than you do. John, by his logic, a hundred year old man would be a more reliable source of information about World War I than a recognized expert in WWI history. Afterall, he's been there, and the PhD has only read about it. Yeah, that makes sense. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
(A) The right to keep and bear arms dates to the revolutionary war, not the civil war (late 1700 rather than 1860s). (B) If the second amendment only applies to flintlock firearms, then the first amendment only applies to printing presses. (C) Please describe to me what you consider an "assault weapon." (D) People everywhere recognize the right to self defense (though a few governments don't). Here in the USA, we believe people should have the choice as to how they wish to defend themselves. (E) Save your "crazy western" comments. Gun rights laws don't result in wild west shootouts. They result in less crime. Actually, those are the safest parts of the USA. The most dangerous areas are Chicago, Philadelphia, and various cities along the east and west coast (those would be top, right and left, not middle and bottom) (A) Yes, the USA has a higher murder rate than many other countries, and yes we have the freedom to keep and bear arms throughout most of the country. However, you noticed a correlation. That is very different from causation. (B) Here in the USA our overall victimization rate is about 4%. In England it is over 26%. It is also higher in most other European countries than in the USA. Does that mean guns cause murder but prevent crime? No. It means there are significant differences that make cross-country comparisons very difficult, if not impossible, and your noticed correlation nothing more than an interesting side note. Actually I can deny that. Here in the USA, states with higher firearms ownership have lower crime rates. The most dangerous cities in the USA are inside states with very stringent gun control. Also, after states pass gun rights laws, their crime rates drop faster than other states. ps - would it make you happier to know you'd been killed by anything else rather than a gun? If not, then you need to consider that cultural differences cause our differing crime rates and murder rates, not our guns. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

It sounds to me like she was told by the teacher to bring in a picture. (for the bulletin board or something) They just didn't like the one she brought it. A better plan is to go down to your local pawn shop and ask for their cheapest, shittiest left over guns. Buy a couple handguns for less than $100, and turn them in. It's actualy easier soemtimes to find long guns for elss than $50. No, they're not taking bb guns. (fair warning: at some of these things they give you gift certificates or free passes worth the advertised amount, not always cash) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I agree. However, after getting over the laughing fit from seeing China giving anyone shit about human rights, I read the report and it was everythign I expected (grade A prime Bullshit). I also think more effort should be put in at home before abroad. Again, just because we aren't perfect, doesn't mean we aren't working on it, or that we aren't improving. (we are) Too bad those @#$%^&* can't say the same thing about their shit hole. Well, they can say it on their little pravda network, but that doesn't make it true. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

My point was many things other than gun laws can affect crime. That's why it's useful to study, say, across th board trends during many years, and see if there is a relationship between gun laws and crime. Oh, wait, it's been done. Pro-gun rights laws reduced crimes, and gun control laws correlated with rises in crime. Sorry, dekker, but no one has ever found any correlation, much less causation, between gun control laws and reductions in crime. But hey, don't let realitty slow you down in your quest. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Nice strawman there. Too bad I never said anything remotely similar to that dumbed down, ignorant rant. Even the stats that are correct do not show human rights violantions, and are not, in and of themselves, all that different from anywhere else. As stated above, I'm done. Enjoy either learning or America bashing or whatever you plan on doing. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Human Rights violations are hardly the same thing as an imperfect law enforcement. If you really want a police force that can stop nearly all crimes, you're going to have to put up with some real human rights issues to get there. Also, that number is not particularly high when compared around the globe (to places that put out honest numbers). You have to put it into perspective with a per capita ratio, otherwise it's just a big number meaant to scare the uninformed. I'll be the first to say the the US has some serious issues. Our murder rate being near the top of my list. However, rampant Human Rights violations is not one of them. This entire report is a complete joke. I'll not waste more time explaining why. Anyone who can't understand why is beyond any explanation possible in a post, and anyone who wants to believe it will not be swayed by anything. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

okay, anybody care to enlighten people and refute their supposed facts? What, you don't like it when people follow your example? The entire thing is a joke. First, they use total numbers, not any sort of per capita or other useful numbers. Second, they provide no frame of reference (particularly if we could get our hands on their real numbers, instead of the "state news agency" BS). Third, it sounds like they just quoted every type of meida whore, from NOW to the Brady Campaign to the NAACP. Really, I could go line for line and dispute jusa bout everything in the report. Just look at their first point. Baaaaaaaaaaahh. The USA has one of the lowest crime rates on the planet. Our LEO's are some of the most restricted anywhere. We have courts to redress greivances. We have the First, Fourth, and Fifth amendments. It only gets worse if you actually read their complaints. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
