Just remember, you're basing that on what equates to the "failed" criminals... the ones who got caught!! That's like surveying all the stockmarketeers who aren't rich (may or may not have been convicted). witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I worked with the Firearms Examination Unit in PG County, MD (as an intern). Mentioning C-S-I in the lab was verbotten, because that show sent my boss in to coniption fits. People think every crime scene is covered in evidence that anyone with half a brain can find. In reality? They're covered in dirt, and that's generally about it. The worst is when the damned jurors expect every case to be so blatantly obvious. They expect a perfect ballistics match (no such thing, it's always the opinion of the examiner, like a polygraph). They epect GSR on shooter and victim (GSR is eaily wiped, washed, or worn off & GSR on victims only happens at certain distances). They expect shell casings (not always left behind, easily mangled beyond recognition). They actually expect an FEU tech to be able to identify caliber of a through and through by looking at a wound (do I really need to say it?). Jurors, yes, those twelve not qualified to get out of jury duty, are definitely affected by CSI et alia. For some reason, people now think every lab test known to man is available and can be done by one man for no cost. They also seem to think real crime labs only work three cases at a time, or less. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Gun found in locker of girl, 12, faces felony

I've never been a fan of victim disarmament zones, either. The anti-gun arguments get older and more tired everytime I refute them. So he's taken to exagerating my own claims into absurdity. Hence the strawman comments. Honestly, you have to consider just how bad carrying illegally on the trails would be (a lot of parks were off limits to me in Alabama). The only way anyone would've known if I was carrying was if I needed it for self defense. In that case, another old saying comes to mind: "I'd rather be tried by twelve than carried out by six." You have to balance it all out for yourself. Yeah, because people intent on gun crimes are really going to worry about signs that say "you can't carry here." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

So should I yella t you to "Fly like an eagle, Johnny!" Mr. Devil's Advocate? OK, to answer... Right, like you don't see the difference between being supervised at a range or home and walking around a school building. Uh huh. And you see no difference between handling and being allowed to carry everywhere unsupervised? Come on. You're really making me look moderate, and I appreciate it, but lay off the ridiculous strawmen. Even adults will CCW permits are not allowed to go anywhere they please. Inside schools is off limits just about everywhere. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

It's still a strawman, even if you set it up for some one else. I don't know anyone advocating students be allowed to carry handguns in school. (these either tend to or always have ceramic or metal back up plates) Brands matter less than protection level (of course you want a known, proven brand) edit: Rebecca, ignore me and listen to LouDiamond. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

You really need to get over the idea of beer soaked morons populating tree stands. Most hunters, even the ones whose methods you despise, are decent, ethical folk. Baiting deer is illegal in most if not all areas. Drinking and handling firearms, well it's not illegal everywhere, but I don't shed a tear when they become Darwin nominees. Just because a LEO can tell you stories about members of a group doesn't mean the entire group is guilty. That's the same logic gun banners use when they call for infringements. That's the logic politicians use when they decide they know better than you what's good for you. That's the logic bad cops use. That's the logic racists and bigots use. (etc etc etc) That sounds dangerously like gun banners claiming that guns kill, and that the trigger pulls the finger instead of vice versa. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

As for pistol bullet's terminal ballistics, you have to remember that they are already so much larger than rifle bullets. The speeds are also very different. Pistol bullets travel slowly enough that if you design a bullet that will open up more, then it will be so soft that it doesn't penetrate. That's the pro-con of Glasers. They open up with tremendous wounds, but don't penetrate. It's a balancing act. A .45 ACP round is 150% the size of a .30 cal round. It doesn't need to open up as much to leave a "big enough" channel. It needs to stay small so it's lesser velocity will still carry it into vitals. This is true, but you have to be aware of the opposite effect. If you shoot to hard of a bullet then it may punch through the animal, and waste it's energy. If you use very soft bullets on Elk or very tough skinned game, they will not penetrate, like you said, and you now have a wounded animal. If you use very hard bullets on deer or smaller game, they may exit the animal, and you have wasted effective energy. You can argue the best end point for a bullet (against the skin far side vs still in the vitals), but you have to agree that if it exits, energy was not transfered to the animal. Again, this depends highly on using the appropriate round to the situation. A 12 gauge slug will put down a man at 100 yards, where number 4 shot won't even bother him. It depends on the energy transfered by the bullet or shot to the target. (also, any shot that doesn't hit the target is again a waste of energy) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Well, a male teenager is more likely to commit crimes (and stupid acts) than a 12 year old girl, so I'd expect charges there, but regardless I'd still be wondering where the "use" and "aggrivated use" charges come from. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
There are a number of fifties other than the .50 BMG (the one you're thinking of). witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

"any other variant of 50 caliber, or any metric equivalent of such calibers" I don't know if that line would include blackpowder guns or not. I haven't read the proposed bill yet, so who knows? It wouldn't surprise me if the fucktards representatives in WDC didn't bother to exempt them. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I keep 129 grain Hydrashok .38 spl for my Taurus, plus assorted cheaper practice ammo (steel case, lead SWCs, etc). I've been considering checking out Winchester's 125 gr Super-X JHP (it's +P), but that's for the future. Since I'm "between autos," I don't stock any other ammo at the moment. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

They'll never ban your hunting rifle... ...they'll call it a sniper rifle first. Well, it's true. ***Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) is one of the most irrationally anti-gun members of the U.S. House of Representatives. For example, in 1993, when the House voted 424-4 to require a law enforcement agency to explain to a person why it rejected that person`s handgun purchase under the former federal waiting period law, Moran was one of the four who voted against the measure. In Moran`s mind, anyone who wants to buy a gun doesn`t deserve to be treated fairly. Today, Moran is doing the anti-gun lobbies` bidding on one of their latest gun-ban schemes. On February 8, he introduced H.R. 654, which he calls the ".50 Caliber Sniper Rifle Reduction Act." As with other "gun control" bills, the name doesn`t accurately reflect the bill`s fine print. The bill: Bans all .50 caliber hunting rifles. It invents the term, ".50 caliber sniper weapon," and then defines it to include any rifle "capable of firing a center-fire cartridge in 50 caliber, .50 BMG caliber, any other variant of 50 caliber, or any metric equivalent of such calibers." In addition to rifles that use the venerable .50 Browning cartridge, many other .50 caliber rifles would fall under that broad definition. Such rifles, all designed and/or widely used for hunting, were invented between the 1860s and 1970s. Requires gun registration of all lawfully-owned .50 caliber rifles. The bill would subject all .50 caliber rifles to the National Firearms Act (NFA), to regulate them in the same way as machine guns. Bans manually-loaded rifles - single-shots, double rifles, pump-actions, and bolt-actions. Most .50 caliber rifles, including .50 Brownings, are of manual-loading type. Single shots hold only one round of ammunition, double rifles hold two, and pumps and bolt-actions hold only a few. Prohibits a lawful owner of a .50 caliber rifle from selling it. The bill would allow a current owner to keep his rifle, if he registers it with BATFE under the provisions of the NFA. But the bill would prohibit selling a lawfully-owned .50 caliber rifle to anyone, despite the strict controls of the NFA, which include an FBI background check on a prospective buyer. Prohibits a lawful owner from passing a .50 caliber rifle to a family member as part of an inheritance. The prohibition on subsequent transfer has no exceptions. Sets the stage for an even wider gun ban. If guns can be arbitrarily banned according to the mere diameter of the bullet, what is to prevent banning guns that use smaller bullets than .50 caliber? The anti-gun group that conceived the idea of a ban on .50 caliber rifles has already proposed banning .30 caliber rifles as "intermediate sniper rifles." International gun-ban activist Rebecca Peters has even proposed banning rifles that can shoot 100 meters--;that is, all rifles, since all rifles can shoot that distance. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

OK, here's what I don't get. I understand suspending the kid, and disciplining her at the school level. I can almost understand the FOID charge and the unlawful possession charge. But where the hell do unlawful use and aggrivated unlawful use come from? What use was there? And what spurred the "aggrivated" charge? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
What kind of kid is this woman raising, that even if we give him the benefit of the doubt about drugs, he calls a guy a snitch for reporting crimes?
