  3. http://www.koin.com/news.asp?RECORD_KEY%5Bnews%5D=ID&ID%5Bnews%5D=1870 What's next, are they going to ban all photos of war in history class? Is the US Great Seal going to be banned because the eagle has a few arrows in his talons? Absolutely disgusting. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  5. I guess your citizenship hasn't kicked in yet, because you obviously haven't been annoyed by $harpton, Je$$e, and Kaw$i yet. If you had, you'd know for a fact that they do have "institutionalized, mass marketed Dogma." 6. JohnRich can explain how, based on the article below. Another wonderful waste of taxpayers' money and law enforcement's time. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  7. You've truly regressed into the ridiculous trying to prove your point. By your silly logic, everything is dangerous. Are you willing to talk about relative dangers now? I've got my numbers for firearms related accidental deaths. Tell me, at what level do you consider something "safe?" Or are you so intent on arguing against gun rights that you now have to admit everything is dangerous by your defintion, so your fear-mongering is based in nothing but personal bias? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  10. Of course they don't. You've made up your mind, so let's not confuse you with the facts. Have any of us ever claimed that only pro-gun rights law can reduce crime? That fact that crime went down without the laws hardly proves that the laws don't reduce crime. I also have an interesting question about your 41% drop. Did any new gun control laws get passed that can take credit? As we have shown you, and you ignore, every single state that adopted shall issue concealed carry experienced a signicifcant drop in total numbers and relative to other states. Can any type of gun control legislation claim that? 13. Hey Paul, there are 60-80 million gun owners in the USA. There are groups with significant membership who call the NRA too lenient and willing to compromise. The NRA has about four million members, give or take. Care to try again? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  15. OK, now you're acting like kallend. Read what's there, Bill. My "knee-jerk" reaction was a simple reply to her post, and I didn't mention banning guns in that reply. Her first post sepcifically said she didn't support bannings guns, so I didn't even consider it a topic of discussion The idea of banning guns came up when she continued on with others; the "guns aren't necessary" bit. She also placed herself squarely within the frame of "the other side" of the debate. You also might want to consider a dozen back-and-forths later wouldn't be considered "the second you {post}" by most people I'm also waiting for someone to mention a problem with guns. So far I've seen a problem with society - crime, and I've seen a problem with people - improper handlling. Has anyone brought up a true problem with guns? Maybe you mght want to take a few minutes to read the thread, rather than scan it like a mod most often does, before jumping to her defense on such shaky grounds. ps - I could lodge stronger complaints about being attacked the moment a person posts anything pro-gun. (gun nut, insensitive, nazi, everything short of baby-killer, you get the idea) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  16. Don't bother explaining how banning guns isn't shitting on a personal freedom; don't bother showing how it's not screwig with an amendment to the constitution; don't bother considering benefits in your cost-benefit analysis; just claim victim status and call your oppenents mean. (oh yeah, and bill, the arguments against gun rights hold less water than arguing for creationism in science class, but you agree with the conclusion; Suddenly you become far less critical of bad science...) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  17. That's for sociologists to figure out. Some simple (soundbyte-ish) reasons I have are: TV and teachers taking place of parents less parental involvement failure to recognize warning signs maybe we're just a more violent society? (more murders than other places, but significantly lower crime rate) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  18. That's what makes this case slightly differnt form quoted precedents, however, she should have pursued action against the officer. She has no good claim against the department, other than maybe requesting they improve their restraining order training. She doesn't have a prayer of wining a monetary settlement from the department based on insufficient training, and she doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning based on services not provided. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  19. Oh, there's very little that can stop a criminal before he decides to act. (he'd have to be pretty stupid to start his rampage at a shooting range though. However, I use that analogy to the relative dangers of properly participating in shooting sports. Discussing skydiving and gun crime is fairly useless since there aren't many skydiving crimes to compare it to. However, when discussing gun accidents, as is appropriate to the thread no matter what field marshall kallend declares, skydiving is ripe for comparisons. Remeber, you can do everything right and die, even on a solo. That's just not the case when shooting. Skydiving relies on nylon and string to save your life. Shooting doesn't involve your life being in danger. It's that relative safety thing our favorite physicist loves to talk about. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  20. No offense to your choice, I am just curious as to your logic... Charlton Heston: (A) brought himself out of dirt poor roots and made something of himself without crushing people (B) joined in MLK's march on Washington, believed in and participated in the civil rights movement long before it was ever "popular" in Hollywood (C) has led the civil rights fight for personal freedom and gun rights (D) has never once waivered in fighting for his beliefs/morals/ideals (E) called that guy a "damned dirty ape" witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  21. Fewer than one thousand people are killed in firearms related accidents each year. Studies vary, but between 1 million and 3.6 million crimes are stopped with firearms each year. (not to mention the number that are never started because of guns) If you want to consider a cost-benefit analysis, you have to consider to benefits as well. (you might want to consider shitting on personal freedom and screwing with an amendment before banning, as well) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  22. but still...fried strawberry ice cream? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  23. This view is completely incorrect. Skydiving is inherently dangerous. You are falling through the air, miles abouve the ground, relying on nylon and string to save your life. Things can go wrong even if you do everything right and no one else is involved. This just isn't the case with shooting. If I go the range and there is no one else there, and I follow the four rules of basic gun handling, I will leave the range safely. I can take my time, and I can call a time out anytime I please. (not so at 13,500) I can participate in shooting and know for certain that I will not cause an accident (in part because I know what improper handling can do). Skydiving on the other, offers no such guarantees. Like people, say you can do everything right and still not go home. How many times have you heard deploying referred to as "saving your own life?" Participating in skydiving is more dangerous than shooting. Yes, guns have more potential to cause harm in the wrong hands than a skydiving rig, but using guns is significantly safer. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  24. Bill, skydekker finally asked the right question in another thread. He asked My answer is absolutely. The key issue is how they are used. Just like cars, buckets, and all the other comparisons you love so much. However, a Glock 17 is very safe. It is not radioactive. If it is dropped it will not go off. It can't load itself. It can't fire without a finger pulling the trigger. It does not do anything on it's own. It does not do anything not directly caused by its handler. A gun can't hurt anyone unless the person holding it makes it happen. Used properly, guns are one of the safest recreational items around, as shown by the user to accident ratio. Ask kallend about things being relatively safe. It doesn't pose any danger unless it is, to quote skydekker, "not used properly." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  25. I'm sure she at least got a summary of case law from one of her soon to be $1500 an hour peons, but I just don't understand why this case was even accepted. What constitutional grounds are there? Besides, if they make police responsible for harm that comes to people, then every PD in the country will shut down tomorrow. They can't afford the liability for every criminal, and they can't be everywhere. edit: You generally need a very good reason to go over stare decisis witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
