  2. Well, if the guy pays his taxes, thinks he's paying too much, and has no chance for a tax return, he should just claim more exemptions, right? That way he pays less out of pocket, and THE I.R.S. will be sure to pop up and tell him if he owes more. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  5. People used to take zippos and bics and everything else onto commercial flights without a hitch, other than that guy with the shoe, and 'way-back when,' people used the lighters on planes - by smoking. I can't imagine any actual threat being posed by a lighter with compressed gas. As a by-the-by, it's easier to make bombs that use timers or electric switches than one that needs fire. Egg-timers and simple switches are still allowed in carry on. for now... witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  6. Zippo threw a shit fit about banning lighters for travel because so muc of their business is gift shop nick-knacks. Hence zippos are ok but somehow bic lighters are a no-no. Ah, the illusion of safety - so much more important to the Thousands Standing Around (TSA) than actually preventing attacks. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  9. You know, that reminds me, what hsould we call guns made after the ban sunset? Post ban is used for after the ban was ennacted, but before it died. How about this: Pre-ban Post-ban After-ban ps - I'm still trying to get my hands on an "LEO only" marked AR-15, but not having any luck. Any reccomendations? (I'd really like an LEO only AR-10, but I'm ont holding my breath) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  10. Very good point. Accepted facts about the "average" US criminal (index I) - He started committing jailable offenses by 13 years of age - He committed his first felony by fifteen years of age - The worst offending year are between 16 and 19 years of age You know, I really wonder now how many criminals who have used a gun in a crime were never eligible to own one in the first place. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  12. ...and you have something to back up the assertion that many normal people become felons, and many guns fall into criminals' hands? Remember, there are around 80 million guns owners and 260 million guns in the USA. (you should also keep in mind that most criminals are repeat offenders and most crime guns are used more than once) Also, even if gun owners had perfect track record, and no gun owner sold his gun except to an FFL, and no legal gun were stolen, do you think that would have a large effect on the crime rate? Have you forgotten that no country anywhere has been able to stop the black market from operating? Guns would still get into criminals' hands just like drugs, bootlegs, and everything else. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  13. OK, ignoring the titlte of the thread... Let's examine your idea that gun makers are somehow responsible for gun crimes. Are Ford and Anheuser-Busch responsible for a drunk in an F150 killing a pedestrian? You need to understand that the chain of legal liability is broken by an illegal act. The gun manufacturers will still be subject to normal product liability laws. If they make a faulty gun and it hurts someone, they'll be sued and have to pay up. However, once the bill passes, they will no longer be sued fro engaging in lawful practices. Every gun sold by a manufacturer is directly watched and approved by the FBI and BATFE. Unless you want to claim the FBI and ATF are allowing crime to go unpunished, you can't claim the manufacturers are doing anything wrong. This law is not changing the law, it's simply stating that you can't win a lawsuit against the gun industry when you sue them for acting according to the law. It does nothing more than codify hundreds years of jurisprudence. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  17. Unfortunately, it's not all that hard for illegals to get licenses in some states. It's really pretty damn scary. Virginia is considering giving illegals in-state tuition to state universities. WTF? If they're illegal why aren't they sent home, instead of offered reduced rates to college? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  18. between people south of the border shooting at folks north of the border, mexican army/police incursions (including shooting at BP agents), and teh damage caused by illegals as they cross, something has to happen. Since the bureaucracy is unwilling to support the BPs, what option is left other than the citizenry doing it themselves? (and thereby drawing a hell of a lot of attention to the issue, which may lead to change before problems involving the MMP happen) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  19. Bill, would you agree with me that VPC, Brady, and AGS are the standard for gun control groups, the way the NRA is the standard for gun rights groups? If so, would you argue that VPC, Brady, and AGS do not want to ban guns in America? Let's look at is this way: the NRA sees it as a successful year when no new gun control is passed. VPC, Brady, etc think it's a failed year if all they can say is no new gun rights have been restored. ps - do you disagree with my assessment of what the second amendment means? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  20. Tell you what- When the government tells me and every other man who wants one that we can own a select-fire rifle, then I'll be more than happy to discuss the best training, storage, etc. Until the second amendment is taken as law of the land again, I simply don't trust the government with knowing anything about me or my gun(s). As things stand now, I won't consider things that could otherwise be considered a good idea (and neither will the other seventy million or so American gun owners). ps - just because I love tormenting you with these analogies... John, just look at how they run the DMV/MVA in your state. Do you really trust the government to run an agency responsible for safety? They turned it into a way to make money. I really don't see any advantage to keeping the DMV open. "I have suggested a number of times that those who wish to own automobiles should be held to a very high standard of conduct with respect to such things as training, storage, etc. etc." You going to pass safe storage laws for automobiles? Require serious training for a driver's license, a la Europe with months of training and expenses? You going to change the DMV from a revenue collection and taxation service to an actual safety inducing service provider? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  21. ...and the eighty year old couple who live by themselves are going to do what for self defense? Put up their dukes? 22. It's not just "a few" of the liniks that come back with that BS bandwidth message; it's the links that would lead to actual information, such as the "studies" link, the "data" link, the "FAQ" link, and so on. The summary and "about us" links seem to work just fine. 23. Philly is workig hard to earn that dubious honor of "Murder Capital" of America. They have all the tools they need to fight crime, but instead of doing it, the Mayor is talking about passing new gun control measures. http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/11283192.htm witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  25. That is a law governing conduct, so yes, it is a regulation. Now tell me, professor, does that law infringe on the right of the people to keep and bear arms? No, and that's why it fits with the second amendment. These laws that forbid people to own select-fire rifles (like the M-16), that forbid citizens to own handguns (like the M-4), do they match with the second amendment? If a man must present himself armed with the weapons of war, according to the constitution, can laws banning ownership of those weapons be constitutional? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
