Maybe I should have been more clear. My rigger contacted Relative workshop and rigging inovations, they don't like the test. "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

My rigger just grounded my vector micron made in 2001 (I think it is 2001 and part of 2002, see the gear and rigging section). Local master riggers have been talking to gear manufacturers TODAY and they don't like the "test" on the pins. The first thing PD recommends is that someone try one size smaller vengeance thatn the size stilleot they are jumping. This is probably becasue the vengeance is not as snappy in the toggles as a stilleto and if you fly the same size it could appear awkward. The vengeance is as high an aspect ratio canopy as the highest aspect ratio velocity (velocities of different sizes have different aspect ratios). The vengeance will have a very slowe stall speed compared to a stilleto becasue of this. In general the vengeance likes to dive very much. The riser pressure is lighter and if you are used to a stilletoo and do a hard snap hook on a vengeance wyou will be taken on a diving ride similar to a cross brace (I have seen someone unfamiliar with this almost kill themselves). I can hook my Vengeance 135 from 400-350 feet and stay in the dive before I plane out. They dive very hard. I would not recommend on to someone that does not intetend to hook hard and dive at the ground. If you prefer to carve gently a samurai or better yet a competition cobalt might fit your needs. A stock vengeance has toggle settings very tight like a stilleto, but it will still dive. It has a negative recovery arc so that positive toggle input must be initiated to pull out of a shallow dive that the canopy will recover to after a steep dive. In other words it will not recover to normal flight (it will eventually ..but) or recover to a positive flat flight like a stilleto. They are good canopies for getting used to very fast dives if you eventually want to jump a much smaller canopy. Because they dive so much from hard turns they can be very dangerous for someone that is not ready for one. PM me if you want more. They are easy to swoop far but there are better canopies... but if you want a big non cross braced canopy that swoops decently they are good that that. ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

practice landing slightly cross wind and making adjustments in to the wind wiith your toggles. Start like 10 degrees off and gradually adjust. It is a feel thing, some canopies do it better than others. One toggle will be pulled slightly lower than the other, yet you are continuing your flare smoothly. Speed helps, but until you get competant at it get readdy to run out a couple of landins slightly sideways. On heavier loaded canopies you can lean in the harness to cause changes, I can cause about a 20 degree heading change with the harness, but it really all gets blurry becasue someimtes I am using a little bit of toggle too. good luck "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

I have ~200 jumps on a vengeance loaded at 1.7. They have light riser pressure (not like a stilleto). they dive very hard and have a negative recovery arc (not like a stilleto). They are a different animal and a great all round canopy if you work at a dZ and want to swoop alot. They are different from a samurai in that they have a very sensitive flare (like a stilleto), where a samurai flare is something that takes getting used to. All of these canopies are non cross braced and will only surf so far. A good pilot on any of these canopies will out swoop a mediocre pilot on the other (and possibly a mediocre pilot on a cross brace). A competition cobalt (flame away) will in the hands of the right pilot swoop further due to the thinnner cross section and reinforced nose. A good pilot on a stilleto will surf pretty damn far, so.... OK so my actual opinion...I'd get a vengeance over a crossfire 2 simply based on the line trim fiasco the crossfires had. PD tests their products better than that other company. Both canopies swoop and open reasonably well. My 2 cents ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

I dump in a track all the time. Competition cobalt 105 loaded at 2.1 I used to dump in a track all the time on my space/alpha 150 (precursor to the cobalt). I had to stop doing that on my FX...doh The most important thing for me is symetrical packing and body position. good luck ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

E-mail jim Slaton or call him at the West Coast office. I'm sure he will be glad to explain his theories on ditch size. I think you want one wider than 20 ' and the typical landing end should slowly grade from your 4' depth to 0 so that people chowing on the end don't crash in to a dirt bank, but rather slide up a grade. ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

I look at my alti 1500, 1000 and 500. If I wait more than 2 s or so after 500 I will be low and have to let off my risers. it is better for me to turn right above 500 (as an alti wears out or ges wet, I have to rely more on sight due to inaccuracy and my turns are less precise Jay Moledski (one of the best in the world) has an altimeter on his front leg strap so he can keep his eyes on the ground and the alti at the same time.. Not to start anything but if it wasn't on purpose, maybe you should practice a little further from the main landing area. When I started I knew I could land in a general vicinty or a main landing area but it took a long time before I could intentionally land in the main landing area while other canopies are coming in and the rW'ers are picking up their stuff ,..and...maintain control, swoop my ass off, avoid anything resembling a collision, and Not make any body around me nervous. Learning to turn (hook) at the right altitude takes discipline, desire, guts and probably some luck, but learning to do a high perf landing in a busy area takes experience and it is still not the best policy. Turn higher ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

Advanced scores (note strong winds during distance, guys that won, were in the powerband when they hit the gates (i.e. perfect form). my goal was to make sure I hit the gates and not get a big fat "0". http://www.proswoopingtour.com/Swoop%20Festival%20Advanced%20results.htm pro scores (low end 200 ish or miss, high end 300 ish) http://www.proswoopingtour.com/Swoop%20Festival%20Pro%20Results.htm I have a 300' tape measure, when we come up to AOT for the ff boogie, we can set up a course so you can see how you are doing. How embarassing. I am actually not a full time coach anymore (definitely not world class), but I do sort of coach/mentor and jump with everyone for fun (I don't work at the DZ I play). Waller has camping area, swimming pool, and bonfire areas. It is very hot in Texas and I recommend sleeping in the packing area (airconditioned). We have a lot of fun at night over there. I would be glad to ground coach, give you some training ideas and make a couple of jumps with you. If you want a few coach jumps (like all day attention) I would recommend you go to a full time freefly coach at Spaceland Eric Boyd and the Team Anomally are very good. bloo skies ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

awesome. Looks like all the cool shit happened after I left Still had fun though

It is a good idea, but realistically 50 straight jumps with coaches may be overkill. I'm sure they appreciate the business (flame away), but you can only gain so much muscle memory from those short jumps and intense debriefs. If you are willing to spend that kind of cash. Go to Florida do coaching jumps with some hot shot down there and get some tunnel time in Orlando. The tunnel rats can help with specific problems in a very short time ( I mean they see everything due to the small space in the tunnel) and leave you with some muscle memory that is only reached after loads of jumps. Dave Brown (very good teacher in Sebastian) can free fly with you and you can go to the tunnel with him. Also there is Olav's crew in Pahokee and Colon Berry in Z-Hills. All not too far from the tunnel. I did 15 minutes in the tunnel working on back flying and side sliding in a sit. it was worth it.
