Same for a Comp Cobalt loaded at 2.1....no prob much softer landing than similarly loaded FX..but that is not saying much.. "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

It is becoming quite a problem. Even at a DZ filled with experienced canopy guidance like Perris. Skydiving is turning in to 2 different sports really quickly. Sort of like an airport where you can learn to fly a stunt plane with only 40 hours in a cessna and no regulations or license requirements to keep you out of the stunt plane. Sorry about your buddy. ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

There is actually a new theory put out by Team Extreme and the PD boys. keep in mind all parachutes are different as such a xaos may not act this way. It is called the "double power band" 1 power band is pretty much being at maximum speed when you apply input to level out. the "new" second power band is the point when you transition from rears to toggles. The theory as I understand it states that if you hold on to rears then as you feel it is time to swtich to toggles, you are already late and missed your power band. you can switch to toggles and complete your flare and have a decent swoop. If you switch to toggles slightly early (assuming a perfect rear swoop) you are supposed to get a distance increase as you will have much more power in your toggles and speed left over. I don't know any of the "whys" for this, but I suspect it has to do with slowing down a certain amount with a changed angle of incidence (rear input) then changing your angle of attack with the toggles. Maybe if you have a certain amount of speed, it is a more efficient time to switch from rears to toggles as it may be a more efficient time to change the angel of attack on your canopy. Bottom line is there is somehting to this, but it is probably only important if you had a lot of speed to begin with and had a good transition to rears to make huge distance early in your swoop. check your email. I'd like to see you getting full speed out of that canopy with full control before you downsize..that is the general rule.. I think you could downsize in the near future but the big Butz is probably going to want to see you performing more efficient turns consistently or he is going to give you hell. Donnie, I'm not bitching at you Base even more than skydiving is a hand me down sport. The people that practice it today are alive becuase they respected their mentors and the pioneers that went before them (some of who died). This sport rewards modest people who show a willingness to learn and a respect for experience. Others want to beleive that you won't be a liability or go in on their watch. That is a lot to ask and your behaviour (probably on the DZ) will dictate whether or not they want to accept that liability. I know you are ambitous and this is a tough pill to swallow, but your actions in the community will speak louder than your words. I'm sure this is an old topic. Anyone like a general sewing machine better than a Singer 20U? Ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

If I was jumping at 3.1 loading i'd just do a 180 whip from 700' also... "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

tarek, 2 stage, starts in a carve then as he comes around really cranks the last bit. but what you are missing is the fact that your risers should be pulling out of your hands due to the speed as you reach your powerband. That means you are at top speed and after you reach the power band you should begin your plane out. just whipping a 180 you wont reach max speed (you can go fast..but not your best). if you do a slow carve and then really crank the last part of your turn to get the most out of it you might. If I do slow 270 I adjust the pull on my turn based on altitude and speed, as I speed up I will try and fight the centrigul motion and pull harder on the riser the last 90 or so (depending on altitude). You should know if you are too low (and whip it earlier or too high and make it more gradual) I only adjust the last 90 degress or so. whipping a 180 is ok if your too low to do a full speed turn (read... not OK if you should be doing a 90 ) You are not reaching full speed in your whips due to altitude. and if you carve it from higher you will ahave more control If you whip a 180 or complete your tun too soon and are high you can always grab double fronts to try and maintain the dive...but the idea is to not be able to grab any more riser and have max speed right before plane out time and on heading. ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

I am confused and I can't picture the embankment situation. Embankment = a long artificial mound of stone or earth I can see someone swooping down one, and can understand trying to do that, being too deep and finding your self low (i.e. about to hit the top of the embankment). What I am imagining is you continued your carve towards the wrong side of the embankmentand leveled out on the wrong side or swooped up to the top? clicky I witnessed several lines break on a xaos during a bigway meet. I never heard anything from the incident as to cause. ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

I don't know of any pros (most are sponsored) and I have yet to meet an advanced competitor on one. And it should be noted that Team Xaos and Team Extreme, have modified line trims on some of their canopies such that the behave differently than the production line of xaos27s and vxs. Now I have lots of friends that are pilots and I respect them very much, but what do you do when you have a very pompous jump pilot. this weekend we had a substitute pilot (he is rich and owns a WWII plane). Last load of the day, we are last out (freefly) I ask for a go around. he says "no get out now!", well we get out.. We are 1.5 miles away from the airport with a 3500' runway which puts us a aboout 2.2 miles form the landing area (I measured it with my car after the argument). I jump a 95 loaded at 2.2.. we skydive and break off at 6.2k and dump immediately (under canopy at 4.7k) and make it back to the DZ. I ask the pilot why he did that and he said "there is no reason you can't make it back from 1.5 miles". I told him we were further and he says " the GPS said we were 1.5 miles away and I need to learn to trust my pilot, I have been skydiving a long time and you did not need a go around". I ask him "how many jumps do you have" he says "6000" I told him I have less than that but I have jumped allover the country and have been taught to not rely on the GPS, I think a go around was reasonable." He told me, "well you landed be fore me didn't you, you don't know what your talking about" Well I barely landed before him and my girlfriend did not. this guy was such an asshole and obviously was always doing RW and had no idead what it was like to be in the back of the plane. Lots of people landed off that day including a trip to the hospital from a canopy collpase caused by rotors landing by a house. the pilot is buddies with the "absent" DZO and flies for free periodically to stay current. I only have 1300 jumps but I don't land off because I know when I am too far and I don't want to land my 95 in a trailer park. What would you do? Thats a good point. A friend and I had matching FXs from the same time period and he had his converted to an x-FX. His opened nice after that. Mine was a frequent slammer and I sold it. ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

PM Groundzero and he can elaborate. I beleive they change the line trim and the stabilizer..but I am not totaly sure. ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

It is very hard to gauge actual seconds. by pausing the video at the point where I can best determine his body may be 5 feet off the ground and examing the length of footage to the point where his feet touch it is definitely over 5 seconds...not sure if it is a complete 6..but possibly 5.75 seconds and definitely 5.5. Not to nitpick or anything (since we have no distance perspective). That guy definitely had an awesome swoop. "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

Idea 1. For major super swoopers, have their entry gates back 50 feet further..missed gates = 0 idea 2. 10 foot gates for non supers, 5 foot gates for super swoopers and give lower time jumpers bonus pts for making the 5 foot gates. idea3 combination of 1 and 2 really make it hard for the big boys. Swoop n chug idea. place beer at 10' mark past a ditch. jumpers are timed from time they hit ground till time beer is drank. super swoopers will ahve nerf noodles 75' back in the water and maybe 35'feet back in water. deduct 1 second from the time if wooper drags foot through 35" gates and 3 seconds if drag foot from 75' noodles. this causes all sorts of fun, the accuracy guy on a 220 could win or a swooper that barely dials it in and lands right on the beer can win. of course there is only one round of this ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

I saw several go hands off in a blind man then reach up grab risers and finish landings. on "no hand maneuvers" if not timed perfectly the canopy can have a dynamic stall as the pilot tries to regain control of the canopy and may wind up sliding in on his butt. common with no hand "lazy boys" still looks cool even when not perfect. ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

What I was told by Jim, "JC said it has potential.....for certain things" "Clint had to turn it lower than you normally would and it has a lot of lift" It looked really long and thin when I watched it swoop. Clint did a blindman on it. Ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.
