    I think what he wrote is correct...but it doesn't argue against us being "designed" to eat meat. We're just not designed to eat ONLY meat or to tolerate a diet of predominately meat (I've said that three times now. Don't know how else to say it). Again....that little B-12 issue is enough right there to argue the point that we ARE designed to NEED animal products (meat, eggs, milk). Period.     I think Bill's post is fine. We handle meat fine....but we don't handle a diet of ONLY meat...or even PREDOMINATELY meat just fine. We DO have to have B-12. Have to have it or we'll die. Dead.     I think there's validity to the arguments against raising animals for food....especially on a larger scale. But to argue against people HUNTING for food, because it's mean to the animals is just laughable, imho.     There's lots of well thought-out stuff in this thread. But the "we're not designed to eat meat" argument just doesn't work. The very first thing that comes to my mind is Vitamin B-12. Can't live without it....or at least if you're gonna have blood and a brain. Can't get it from veggies. It's either meat, eggs, milk or a dietary supplement off the shelf. Our digestive systems handle meat just fine....but they need a bit of fiber/roughage too. Somebody, at some point in history, said something about "balance in all things."     I haven't heard what would truly be an effective solution to our violence problems yet. Have you? Well...has anything ever solved the violence problem? How long has there been violence??? Don't know how it is that we think we should be exempt now. It stinks that people hurt other people, but I don't think that regulating guns, or trying to lock 'em all up, or (you name it) is gonna make violence go away.     Agreed. It takes perspective. Those that have Insurance have no idea what Drug companies are actually charging for Perscriptions. They just pay thier Co-Pay and go on thier merry way I have a REAL good idea. My insurance won't pay for my OrthoVisc injections. I'm in the middle of the second series of 3 injections. Each round of 3 injections has cost me, out of my pocket, $650. I can decide whether it's worth it. It is, so I pay. Would be nice if insurance would cover it, but people have abused the system so badly that this is where we are. I'm okay paying for little things our of my pocket, because my healthcare is more important to me than my hair, or my fingernails, or my stylish jeans (all things that people who bitch about paying for healthcare readily pay for without complaint).     I had knee surgery this summer. Have some pretty nasty arthritis in there that just isn't relieved with Naproxen. Got the OrthoVisc injections. My insurance company wouldn't pay for them either. $600.00 for three injections (and that's the medicine--$150 a pop to the orthopaedist, but insurance DOES cover that). Guess I'm not pissed about it because I think that those are the things that insurance probably shouldn't cover. Surgery yes, injections to make my knee less painful...I'm okay with it not covering that. I'm in the middle of the second round of injections (1 injection a week for 3 weeks). It's gone up to $800.     The Constitution did not REQUIRE us to invade Iraq any more than it requires us to provide healthcare. Right. We get to choose. I think we made the wrong choice when we invaded Iraq.     In your opinion, obviously. I personally think that healthcare is an INDIVIDUAL's responsibility. I'm even for a limited government role...though I don't think it's the government's *responsibility*. I think that the government can take on the role of providing a health "safety net" if the citizens decide that's what they'd like to do.     A compliant man. That's good. I wasn't so compliant. Six weeks in hard cast after surgery. Didn't wear the walking boot. Jumped after 8 weeks. I was wrong for that....but lucky. Well, if you're expecting other people to pay your bills, then you could at least not squander what little you earn on your own. Maybe making at least an *effort* to not waste what you earn while expecting others to foot your bill would be a good thing.     I am not surprised anymore that the majority of people completely confuse 'justice' with 'revenge'. The word "emotionally" says it all. Glad to see a few of you do understand the difference. I think most people understand the difference between justice and revenge. Some of us think that sometimes it's okay to seek revenge.     What's the alternative? Most lawyers are theproblem, a few actually help. Layers are, as a rule, parasites. Heck, he's well-educated and works hard for a good living. THAT person would not be a parasite, imho.     Maybe this is the il-liberal coming out in me. I'm covering our ER tonight... Nurse just called me with one of our regulars. It's rare that I don't see her when I'm working. Talk about someone who abuses the system. Never pays a penny on her bill. The only reason I know that is because she tells me. I'll go see her....eventually. Probably when the nurse calls me to see somebody else. Now, pop, I wouldn't have made you wait. Would've tended to THAT problem quickly. But this chick will go complaining about how badly I suck and how she deserves something better, and I'm sure there will be people ready to jump on HER bandwagon, talking about how piss-poor healthcare is in the US.     I think I do lots of things that help make the world a little better every day. Not one specific thing over and over, but little things along the way when I see a need and when I'm able.
