oh I think he not only was there, but you don't go to someone's church for 20 years enless you are in agreement with the pastor. Is Obama a racist? Time will tell.... I'm not sure that's true. I've gone to the Methodist church my whole life. I'm a couple weeks shy of my 42nd birthday. Not sure I even believe in God in any way. I want my child to grow up in the church, though. That way he'll know what he's making a choice about when, someday, he decides whether he wants it to be a part of his child(ren)'s lives. There are some pastors that come through whom I really see eye-to-eye with. Others I just think are plain stupid. I tend to sit there thinking of other things while they talk....who KNOWS what was said during a sermon that I'd deny hearing....because I just wasn't interested. I think you are wrong in that people are not trying hard to attack us here. Not to belittle your opinion, but I don't think you would like what the outcome of ceasing to interdict terrorist activities both here, and abroad. US culture is viewed (probably correctly) as destructive to the Islamic fundamentalist culture. My answer is, essentially, that they are not attacking the US because we are there. They are attacking the US because it exists. I understood your point, I think. You mentioned that in the US, women don't dress traditionally, women are educated and drive cars. There are obviously other things, too, that we do in the US that some Middle-easterners might be opposed to. But people throughout most of the world do these same things. So, my point is.....what's different about the US? Heck, we're much more uptight than the French as far as clothing goes. Ya' don't get arrested for showing your tits in France. Might it be that we do things like, say, attack people without cause????? That's really not the attitude I thought was reflected in her post. Maybe it has something to do with the attitude one brings as they read the post. I "allowed" a patient to walk out of the ER a month ago with a hemorrhagic stroke. I felt that she understood the risks as we discussed what was happening. My choices (as the person who could potentially be held liable) were to 1) ALLOW her to leave or 2) place her under a 72-hour hold. Either way, when a patient's wishes are contrary to a physician's, and there is a large morbidity or mortality risk associated with their decision, the physician HAS to act one way or another, either to allow or not allow the patient to act autonomously. For Mrs. Jenkins, an option might be a teaching hospital, where lots of people without a way to pay are operated on every day. I think there are some men who hate women and who are violent toward women. I don't think that most men are. I think problems like rape are individual problems that do not reflect any societal climate. And I wonder if rape is any more prevalent in the military than anywhere else. I kinda doubt it, but that's just a hunch. I don't think men take pictures of scantily-clad women because they hate women. They do it because it will make them money. I bet women will take the same pictures for the same reasons. Prostitution? If a woman cares to take up this line of work, then she is free to make that choice. I don't think that men pay for sex with women because of their hatred for women. And allowing prostitution, imho, only allows women to make their own choices where this is concerned. Personally, I have achieved quite well educationally and professionally in a traditionally male-dominated profession. NEVER...not even once...have I felt that I was being held back or down or discriminated against in any way because of my gender or because of the fact that I'm a single mom. Now, I don't go asking for any special treatment either. I do the same (but better) work as the men whom I work with. I probably work longer hours, out of my own choosing--I love the ER. I don't get paid any less for my work, and in some areas I get paid more than my male counterparts....but that's not because of my gender either...it's because of me. I don't doubt that there are still some problems with equality, but I think they're getting better.
