  1. See, you make my point to! Arrogant self importance is a terrible thing to waste. So maybe me and you should go on tour! Got a flannel shirt? (Of course I probably make more money than you...lol...can you cope with that?) linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. A liberal is just a conservative who's been to jail
  2. I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison and I went to pick her up in the rain But before I could get to the station in my pick-up truck She got runned over by a dammed ol' train And I'll hang around as long as you will let me.... blah, blah, blah You don't have to call me darlin, darlin. You never even called me by my name.... -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. A liberal is just a conservative who's been to jail

  4. Or, you think everybody else is stupid or, you think your self the only one that understand what really is going on. It's an easy mistake to make, thinking people are stupid who never learn basic grammar. linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. A liberal is just a conservative who's been to jail

  6. NO WAY! This hurts my heart. Just now happened upon it. Bill used to stay with me when he'd come through Little Rock. That was a long time ago. Blue skies Billy.... :( linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. A liberal is just a conservative who's been to jail
  7. GOOD! I enjoy making more money than men on my own merit. This is one of those areas that is getting better with time. I say be patient and let us women make the necessary strides by proving ourselves over time. :) linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. 8. A person can have a spiritual foundation, and even be religious, without teaching her children or believing the "mythology." My son has been going to church since he was little bitty. He understands that a lot of what's in the Bible isn't accurate. He understands that there are basic teachings of the church that are good, but that we know more now than we did 2000 and more years ago, so our understanding has changed. One can still have a spiritual life even though we can see flaws in some doctrine. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. A liberal is just a conservative who's been to jail
  9. Exactly how do athiests explain situations in which they have no control, but still come out on the other side? Survivability of life-threatening injuries involves a lot of factors other than the Hand of God. Most trauma patients have little control over what happens to them when they hit the ER, OR, ICU. Amazing how many of 'em pull through with mere mortals working to save their lives. linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. A liberal is just a conservative who's been to jail
  10. "Is not and never was supposed to be" That's revisionism - it's simply a blind denial of the facts. Throughout the vast majority of human history religion has been used to explain the physical universe. Only in the last 150 odd years, and even now for less than 50% of the population of your country, has religion moved away from explaining things which fall within the domain of science. To say that religion was never meant to be involved in explaining the physical world is a ridiculous, laughable falsehood. Who cares about "was never meant to be...." That's just one of those things that people like to argue over. It's without consequence, imho. Religion was once all there was outside of that which was directly observable. As we understand the universe better, scientifically, then our religious thinking has to change, I think. But spirituality doesn't have to cease to exist just because we come to have a better understanding of of physical science. It's not a blind denial of the facts. It's an acceptance of the facts that we have and an ability to alter our beliefs based on our knowledge. Both extremes....i.e. "the Bible tells us all we need to know" and "science has already given us all the facts we need for religious understanding"....are equally ignorant, imho. linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. 11. I'm saying that when you make a statement like this "I think that the belief in God is not and never was supposed to be an attempt to explain physical phenomena." You are completely and utterly wrong and I've explained why in the other thread currently on the go. It's revisionism and it's indefensibly wrong. I've not been reading the other thread, but I'm not sure what you find to be so wrong with revision when it comes to religious beliefs. To me it's a good thing when people modify what they believe based on scientific evidence. Revisionism isn't ALWAYS wrong. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. 12. Religion and science are not mutually exclusive. A scientifically-based person can have beliefs that have not been proven by science. There are many things that science has yet to prove. To discount all that has yet to be discovered through scientific method is a little short-sighted, imho. We're a little ways off from being able to examine some things scientifically, while we're a LONG ways off from others. This only demonstrates our own human limitations...not the limits of what exists that we've yet to discover. Do you believe that there is life outside the confines of our little world? Is it possible even though we haven't seen proof? What if a person believes it to be so? Is he believing in fairy tales? linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. 13. Real in the sense that a dream is real. Yes, you may actually experience something, but nothing has caused that experience except you. Real in the sense that a religious person would mean, as in actually connecting with something, no. Not real. Since the subjective experience is all that matters, then it's as real as it is to the individual. Doesn't have to be tangible. Something out there doesn't have to be proven in order for an individual's experience to be valid and real. A person connects with something if he or she experiences a connection. There's nothing to prove or disprove. A person's spiritual life is his own. linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. A liberal is just a conservative who's been to jail
  14. What you've just said echoes a tactic that religious people often use, stating that explaining our world using science makes it less amazing, or that admitting that we really are just biological creatures makes us less special. What I said is that whether or not you can explain it doesn't change a person's experience. You, or maybe it was someone else, said that spirituality doesn't exist--that it's just emotion and consciousness. I think there's more to it that we can't necessarily explain by looking at the human brain. We certainly can't explain it with our current understanding. We can't even explain the whole of emotion and consciousness through biology and physiology right now, so certainly not spirituality. Maybe someday we WILL be able to. Wouldn't suggest that we couldn't. BUT whether it's explained or not doesn't make spirituality less real. If we come to explain our ability to have a spiritual connection through biology/physiology, then GREAT! Doesn't take anything away from people's experience, imho. linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. A liberal is just a conservative who's been to jail

  17. What you are talking about is emotion and consciousness, created by the biological structures of our brains. I'm not sure that you can completely explain these either as created by the biological structures of our brains. Personally, I don't think you can equate spirituality with emotion and consciousness because there's another piece or two in there. But even if we go with your assessment, your next statement's even a bigger leap. Sure, there are areas of the brain that regulate emotion and consciousness, but to try to fully explain either based on the "biological structure of the brain" is more difficult. Either way, though, the individual experience is what it is. If you CAN explain what it is and where it comes from, then that's GREAT. To be able to explain human experience biologically doesn't make it more or less real. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. A liberal is just a conservative who's been to jail
  18. I can understand that, too. But I also wouldn't trust the words of General Edwin Walker - a hero, but a bigot. I wouldn't trust his assessment of a person's character because of his very extreme views, not because he's apt to lie. Butler, otoh, is much more believable and trustworthy, I'd think. At that particular time in US history, the story'd not be so far-fetched either. linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. A liberal is just a conservative who's been to jail
  19. ADULTS should be allowed to choose their marriage or sexual partners, as long as all involved are adults. Adults do not have the right to marry or have sex with children, whether or not it is "consensual." That's the big issue here, imho. If parents marry off their daughters when they hit puberty, then those parents as well as the men the girls are given to, should be held accountable. I don't think the children are necessarily being harmed by polygamist lifestyle (though I do find it kinda distasteful myself...ick), but they're being harmed by being raped. linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. 20. ...that all people in this country get the very basic liberties this country has to offer and public health is one of them. What do you mean when you say that public health is a "basic liberty?" I think of liberty as meaning freedom from outside control, from government control especially. It's hard for me to reconcile that statement. Currently, the government does not control your access to healthcare. If the government DOES begin to control healthcare, you may LOSE some freedom of choice (both yours AND your physician's) where that's concerned. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. 22. HAHAHAHA!!! A cardiologist I work with bought a Lamborghini last year. He walked into the hospital through the ER and told Dr. Smith, an ER doc, that he should go look at the new car. Smith said, without missing a beat, "No thanks. I have a penis." HAHAHAHA!!!! And personally I'd rather get with Smith's penis than with Mahmood's Lamborghini. The car doesn't interest me in the least. But that's probably just me. linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. A liberal is just a conservative who's been to jail
  23. If a rigger has that much difficulty focusing on his work, then he/she should give it up, imho. It's not like packing a reserve is all THAT overwhelming. Maybe I'll ask, from now on, to watch so that I can weed out, right off the bat, those riggers who might say no. linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. 24. My only experience with a dispatcher was one weekend when we had 3 traumas...REAL traumas...in our little ER (only 3 rooms, one doctor, one nurse). When the EMS called with a 4th trauma, an MVA, I talked with the dispatcher, saying we had no room in our ER for another trauma...literally NO ER ROOM..no bed....he'd have to sit in the hall. She informed me that she'd send that patient to my ER anyway, because it was 5 minutes closer than Camden, which DID have space. Pissed me off. AFter a few more choice words, she re-routed the ambulance to the other ER. But she pissed me off so badly that I STILL want to bitch-slap the bitch. Meanwhile, our EMTs and paramedics are AWESOME! Love 'em all. They work hard in often very difficult conditions, with people who often are royal PITAs. Patience of Job. And an incredible work ethic too. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. A liberal is just a conservative who's been to jail
  25. A US soldier who served his country honorably, but grew up during a time when "his kind" were not allowed to marry whites or go to white schools. And I think we forget that those days weren't long ago at all. Even if ya' don't agree with. people's sentiments, it's valuable to at least be able to understand where they're coming from...at least I think so. When I was a teenager, a guy I was dating and I (actually it was him and I was just along) stole the "Colored" sign from outside a bathroom at a local gas station. Wasn't. that long ago. Or maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part. linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. A liberal is just a conservative who's been to jail
