Yeah...you're probably right, but while I think that women should have a right to choose abortion, I'm not so sure what I think about creating an embryo (or blastocyst) just for the stem cells. I'm assuming that they are just harvesting at the blastocyst stage, but that's just my assumtion, because it's at this stage that the cells are totipotent. In my mind, I don't have an answer to whether or not there is some fundamental life in an embryo. I don't necessarily believe that the embryo has a RIGHT to develop into a child just because it has the POTENTIAL to. I think that a woman does have the right to decide whether she will have a child. So the issue of abortion definately figures into this issue. I think it's obvious that people who think women do not have a right to abortion would also hold very strong negative opinions about this debate. I think that people who believe that women should have a right to choose abortion may have varying opinions on the issue of creating embryos to harvest the stem cells. I'm really interested in what people in this group think. I don't know where I stand on this, myself. I happened upon that article around 2 or 3 this morning, and....well my mind takes off in strange directions at that time of day...lol. Edited to add: I just looked back at the article and it does seem that they are NOT harvesting at the blastocyst stage, but choosing which embryos to grow into children....Hmm... I don't think it'd be a good idea to jump with a DVT because I can see that it might increase the risk of embolization, but I think it's a much worse idea to jump while your're taking Coumadin because of the reasons already mentioned. Well...one organ wasn't necessarily designed for the other....I think that as we evolved they developed as a tool for procreation. But everything people do doesn't have to be aimed at assuring the survival of the species. I just can't see how a couple's choice of how they use their "parts" is going to impact how effective they are at parenting. I remember that I was absolutely blown away when experienced jumpers started charging new jumpers to jump with them--usually just paying for their lift ticket. Y'all remember when it was debated on the forums ad nauseum? Nowadays it's the standard. Maybe there's more standardization in teaching now, but I really did appreciate those folks (who subsequently became permanent fixtures in my life) who spent time because they wanted a future 4-way partner and because someone had done it for them. I miss that kind of comaraderie. When I started jumping my board back in about '95 or '96, Jerry Loftis spent LOTS of time with me on the phone because there was NO ONE out here who knew anything about jumping a board, and he loved what he did. He didn't know who the heck I was, but he gave me lots of his time. I really appreciated him, and I wonder how much of that kind of spirit is still alive. There's a DZO, Jim Weddle, who use to go to the airport on Wednesday afternoons and fly me and my friend so we could play with the board. He was willing to lose money because he thought it was fun, and because he's a really nice guy. I miss that too. My jumping slacked off a lot in the last several years after my child was born and after I went back to school. So I'm probably missing jumping in general as much as I'm missing the way it use to be, but I do wonder sometimes if, when I get my jump feet back on, I'll be as enchanted with it as I once was. Are you asking a question? I don't understand. If you're asking if Impaired Fasting Glucose or Impaired Glucose Tolerance is enough to make you feel like crap, then probably not. But what exactly has happened that has Disney believing that they will take this financial hit as repercussion for releasing the film? If a financial penalty is a real threat, then of course there is a loss of freedom. If I watch the police shoot my friend for expressing a particular sentiment, you can be damn sure that I'll think twice before expressing the same sentiment. That is a loss of freedom. No...listen to your doctor. The term for "borderline/mild diabetes" is Impaired Glucose Tolerance or Impaired Fasting Glucose, and there are standardized diagnostic criteria that doctors use. They are as follows: Impaired fasting glucose (IFG) — Fasting plasma glucose between 100 and 125 mg/dL (5.6 to 6.9 mmol/L) rather than between 110 and 125 mg/dL (6.1 to 6.9 mmol/L). This new cutoff for IFG provides a similar prevalence as IGT in the WHO criteria, which is based upon both fasting and two-hour OGTT values. Most people in this category of Type 2 diabetes will convert to normal blood blood sugar by a 10% reduction in body weight. I definately have a problem with violations of our rights. However, children must learn judgment from someone. Parents do not attend school with their children, and at school teachers/administrators must take on some role in parenting. There are things that I will wear around my house that I wouldn't wear at work. If I chose to wear trashy clothes at home, nobody has the right to tell me not to. If I wore them to work, I would expect to be sent home. It teaches children to be disrespectful of authority if such behavior is allowed. Yeah....we have had so much rain here in Arkansas this spring. We go through about a week of rain then get a day or two of really nice weather before it starts again! just remember that your lungs don't lie far from your ribs, and your ability to breathe depends on adequate functioning of your chest wall. I'd personally jump with a broken leg (which I've done ) before I jumped with broken ribs.... Sucking chest wounds...yuck.
