Advice for first time Stilletto owner
Kirils replied to airdrew20012001's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Remember the nickname "spinetto" was given for a reason. Practice your swoop turns high, find the performance limits at a safe altitude. Always make sure you stable and square in the harness at pull time. Being sloppy on opening can lead to line twists that require a chop. It's a great canopy, but it requires someone who thinks to fly it. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability... -
Have you looked closely at the quality of the construction of the Voodoo? Before deciding on that rig, may I suggest a side by side comparision with a Javalin, Mirage or Vector??? Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I jump a Diablo loaded at 1.4 and I have a Chaos 21. These are 2 different birds. Your loading on the Diablo is really pushing the performance limit. Actually you are probably getting diminished returns on the Diablo at that loading. If you want higher speed, long swoops and more powerful flares, get on a cross braced canopy. While my experience with the small tri-braced guns is small. I think the Chaos is a gem. Fly fast, fly safe! Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Please don't take offense, but why would you want to become a tandem master?? Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

The Nitro and Cobalt are both GREAT canopies and have a wide range of utility. But for dedicated swooping ( it's not good for much else) may I suggest a Chaos 21? It is the bomb! Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I was doing a 2-way sit out of a 182 this last weekend. The first person steps out and gets in the traditional poised exit position. They will give the count, hop off and go into a sit (face into relative wind). The other person sits in the door and launches into a sit with the relative wind at their back at the same time. It worked great for us. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Interesting...your observations will inspire newbees. Point to ponder: 20 jumps or 2000 jumps, we all need to review canopy skills now and then. Landings under a perfectly good canopy is the #1 killer. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

F1-11 fabric deteriorates fast at your loading. Get a ZP if you want to load over 1.1. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I go through phases where I prefer someone else packing my chute. I'll get a screwy opening or see the packer trash packing my cute and it's back to me packing again. Confidence in your own packing is somthing you need to work on. Get someone you trust to watch you and then jump the job. If you get it 1/2 right, it'll open OK. Lines in, fabric out is all you need to worry about. Spend time watching a packer when they are busy. You would be surprised at the shit pack jobs...but, they open OK. Don't ever sweat over packing, it should be the least of your worries. I Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Hey, why not just psycho-pack? You get the advantages of Wolmari and it goes in the bag easier! Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

what do you mear by "ram air sleeve"? Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

You should'a bought a Heatwave or Hornet. All the line groups are color coded. (grin) Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

It's less thinking than than you think. Free flying is being one with the wind. ie: relax.... The best instruction on the art of freefly is the Relative VRW tape by Pat Works. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I couldn't have said it better myself... Kudos. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

A good rule of thumb: "Any time you think that you might owe beer, be safe and buy it. There are a 1000 curses on the person who does not get beer when required" a quote from Bud Wiesenheimer Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I have seen deployment bags made of cotton, ZP and F-1 11 nylon. Some are quite heavy material and some thin as paper. Are there safety or performance advantages of one over the other? Thanks! Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

This a good argument for buying an Astra over a Cypress! Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I psycho pack just about everything (except a Vengence). My packs are smaller and have more consistant openings than the standard ProPack folding. If you jump a rad elipitical you need it to open the same way every time. Psycho it! You might also want to check out the Wolmari pack, it's a major upgrade on the standard pro. My fiance' has about 60 jumps and started jumping a Tri loaded at about 1.1. I have jumped her chute loading it at about 1.5. If you have T-10 experience, I wouldn't worry about it... Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I tried to order 2 Vortex II's with reserves. I was advised shipping to Ohio was $250.00 AND the price for the rigs has just gone up ( "they will advise me on the new price in a couple days") It dosen't look like it's such a great deal anymore. Every email comes back "sorry for the delay getting back to you".... The Vortex might be a good rig, if you can get one at a decent price. I'm leaning on sticking Stateside and getting a Jav or Mirage. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Wooo... that's quite a radical change. I would recommend you start by going eliptical at your present size OR go to a smaller square. Don't do both at the same time. Fly fast, but fly safe! Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I had trips on my AR-11 and changed them because they reversed risers. BAD CALL. If you are loading high (1:1.5+) Trips make a difference. They let the canopy flatten out increasing the lift on flare and reduce steering line wear. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I personally feel the best transition chute on the market is the Hornet. Check with Roy at Rigs & Things for the beat deal. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
