  1. I think you would be pleased about how much easier the Hornet is to pack compared to the Sabre2. I believe packing volume is also smaller. The Hornet's performance and safety is well demonstrated. The Sabre2 is too new in my opinion to purchase. I would feel much safer buying a canopy that has an established track record. 2. My fiance prefers her Reflex and is already talking about the "hottest rig on the market, the Trident" (she has tried my G-3, Vortex and M-2) I prefer the Vortex. With so many variables to consider in rig fit and performance, how can we say "this is the best rig?" Take a look at the container or canopy reviews at this site. There are actually no negative reviews. Everyone loves their gear, "it's the best!". Do we lack obectivity? Most certainly! Considering the price of equipment and the hunger for ad dollars, do you really think the Parachutist or Skydiving would have the guts (or capital reserves) to do an empirical comparison of equipment? Profitability and politics always come before objectivity. So think what you like, but, "THE VORTEX KICKS ASS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" 4. If I remember correctly (and I may be wrong) doesn't PD have some part in this? I thought PD had sued Icarus about something over PD's license to produce crossbraced canopies. Dosen't PD own the rights on the crossbraced technology? Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
  5. Between my fiance and myself, we have a Mirage M-2, a G-3, a Reflex, Javalin and Vortex II. Each has it's high points. But in the overall consideration, I'll take another Vortex. It's comfortable, small in construction. easy to fly with, looks great and I picked it up for $850.00 fully articulated and chromed to the max. The problem is they seem hard to get here in the States. You can order them cheap out of South Africa, but service sucks and it takes forever. I wish there was a US distributor. 6. I believe those stiffeners help the center of the canopy to inflate first on opening. Even though the Saber II is slightly eliptical, there is a tendency for off heading openings. While it dosen't eliminate the problem entirely, the stiffeners set up a staged opening, allowing for softer, on-heading openings. It's not new science, good packing technique can render the same results. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
  7. I saw Brian in 2000 at an AerOhio boogie. He showed that PC folding method. Many, including myself, have adopted that method. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
  8. I must agree that the Triathlon Pack video is a great packing video. I think it's far better than the old standard "Pack like a Pro". Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
  9. I vote for the bridal folded against the surface of the foldrd PC (outside) I believe it reduces the chance of a monkey fist..a balling up of the PC inside the pouch resulting a hrad pull. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
  10. I like my Mirage G-3 and my Jav. But my favorite is my Reflex. I really think jumpers need to check out the new Reflex from Bomber. Buying a rig is an expensive thing and the "newness" wears off really quick if there are problems. I must confess that Bomber has offered me SUPERIOR service compared to everyone else. My next rig is another Reflex from Bomber. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
  11. For what it's worth: I have a 150 Heatwave that landed too fast. I would run my but off everytime. I had an experienced rigger watch me land and they recommended taking a double wrap around my hands on the steering lines when landing. It worked quite well! I had my steering lines shortened by 6". I walk it in now! Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

  14. Good luck on the purchase from SA. I have been waiting over a month for them to confirm a price for me on 2 new rigs. The last e-mail from them said prices were changing and they would get back to me. That was three weeks ago. The quotes on shipping prices for a rig have changed on every e-mail! I decided to keep my money at home and support American business. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
  15. Power tool is OK. (I have one) I have heard is cuts closing loops more than a ribbon. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
  16. Years ago there were a number of us who used a rubber band to secure toggles. These were long bands tied on the riser. They would wrap around the toggle and you would lock it with a loop on the top of the toggle. Never a problem. I hate what velcro does to my lines... 17. PD won't admit it. When I visited PD in Dec., I asked John face to face if they copied, evaluated or benchmarked other manufacture's canopies. He emphatically said "NO", all designs were originals.Well Ned at PISA say's the Sabre 2 is a Hornet copy. I have a tendency to believe Ned . It is a copy of the Hornet (communication 11-12-01) The Hornet is one damn fine canopy and I don't blame PD for the duplication...now if they could do something about the price... 19. I contacted the rigger who did the last reserve repack. He said there was someone by the same name in the Houston area a little over a year ago selling stolen rigs. We still haven't verified if it's stolen gear. I am trying to make contact with the owner indicated by the last repack rigger. I am persuing legal action. I apologize for ranting, but over all these years I have never been let down or ripped off by another jumper. I really think this guy is outside the family. Thanks Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
  20. I just got ripped off for $1700.00 on the purchase of a shit rig from a guy in TN. (his name given on request). ( I know I shoulda stuck with DZ auctions) The Cypres was out of the rig, and the riggers stamp was removed from the reserve. The bozo I bought this crap from is not replying to my E-mail. I suspect this might be stolen gear. What is the best way to check if it is so, and then what? danka Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
  21. I own Jedei and have demo'd a Vengence. (135 class) They are different birds... In comparision the Vengence is a bit sluggish and slow turning but feels more "solid" in flight and wind gusts. (it may have been better at higher loading) The flare is stronger and more uniform than the Jedei. The Vengence had a long snivel on opening. There were problems a couple times with end cell closure only on one side, causing a spin. (but my packing sucks and may be a factor) I must say I like the Jedei openings better. I understand there were a lot of changes being made in design during the marketing with the Jedei when Brian was building them. The new Samuari is made by PD for Brian and you can be assured the design is solid and the quality is superior. Hey, jump them both and let us know what YOU think!! 22. You have a really nice, well made, reliable canopy. As a new jumper it's important to have confidence in your equipment. Don't let anyony undermine that confidence. Before any equipment purchase, research, talk to experts like Skymonkey and Geoff and others, demo the gear, and have the empirical data to defend your choices. 23. I know of a DZ on the east coast that was ( at least they were a little over a year ago) using Saphires as student chutes for AFF loaded 1:1. I never heard of any problems. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
  24. I just purchased a Northern lite container. It was made in 1993. It's in great shape but I'm not familar with the release system. It looks like 2 hinged aluminum blocks. Does anyone have knowledge or experience with this rig? Thanks! l Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
  25. The bridle extension really has little to do with "on-heading" openings. The extension reduces shear forces on the canopy attachment. I know a number of people with hundreds of psycho jumps that didn't bother with using an extension. I personally use one, having decided to do all I can to preserve canopy integrity.
